Week 12: Tanya's NDAD Creation

I'm finally emerging from the cave known as my apartment!!  The nose is still being blown, but I feel 1000 times better!  YAY!!  Thanks to all of you who sent the nicest emails, comments and ecards - they brought such a smile to my face and it was just a treat to have all you looking out for me.  xo Today's piece comes to me from Tanya in PA!

You’ve inspired me to make so many alterations to my clothes…and I finally followed through on this one.  It’s a remake of a dreadfully boring crewneck sweater that’s been chomped on a bit by a moth and has been in my closet for years.  Since it’s cold out I wanted to keep wearing it, but it needed a lot of up-styling.

Tanya - Before

It’s become a bit felted in the wash, so it seemed appropriate to turn into a little jacket.

Time to work with this felted wool!!

I cut the length about five inches and cut it down the middle and every new edge is hand sewn.  The buttons are just for looks as the real closure is a snap and I kept the sleeves long to contrast with the short body.

Tanya - After

(The backdrop, by the way, is a pair of reclaimed china-cabinet doors I found on the sidewalk near my house. Why anyone would throw them away is anyone’s guess!)  I'm loving the repurposed doors too!!  Sidewalk finds are the best!!

Thanks for all the inspiration! "  Thank you Tanya for sharing your new swacket, my newly coined word for sweater-jacket :)

Week 13: Cold Season

I've gone straight through an entire box of Kleenex Puffs Plus (my nose is still raw and red) and am onto box two at the moment dealing with a crap cold that began Monday! Dear Nose, You are not my friend today. Very best, Marisa

Can't tell if it's partially due to allergies from the weird weather, or if I just had been downplaying not feeling well when I was legit not feeling well?  Regardless, it just hit like a ton of very heavy dumbbells.  I'm hoping to come around in a day or so and if I'm still stuck in bed, I'll have to knit or hand sew something.

It's water, hot tea, naps, vitamins, more naps, and oranges on the agenda...ugh, so not fun sleeping in a sea of crumbled tissues.  Hope all of you are feeling much better than I am right now.  More to follow...

Week 13: Football Sunday!

It's been a little hectic in my neck of the woods, sewing aside, because my parents who have been my neighbors here in Los Angeles for the past few years are now North Carolina bound!  All of my before pictures have been shot at their house, so the blog has also reaped the benefits of their close proximity and front lawn. Backyard Workshop!

Come the beginning of February, I'll be embarking on a little road trip heading down south to help them get situated in their new digs and you'll all obviously be coming along with, via photos and maybe some video :)

It's definitely bittersweet, and I'm sure I'll have my moments where I get sad, however I feel so lucky and blessed to have had them so close for the time they were here.  It's an exciting move for them to be close to family and I'm looking forward to trips and more extended family visits.  Today we had a little goodbye gathering where friends and family stopped by for pizza, stories, and football.  I wore a $1 find that was completely fitting for today.

Vintage SF!

A vintage t-shirt from the 49ers 1988 NFC Championship!  It was a perfect fit and honestly one of the softest and most deliciously comfy shirts.  Unfortunately this shirt was not lucky...

OT loss

...and since this shirt did not bring luck, I'm going with this one for next week!

Giants time!

Sorry Pats fans, even though I'm a Jets enthusiast, I'm going with the other NY team to take the Super Bowl.  We'll see if this shirt brings any luck in two weeks!
