Halloween Location Looks: Day 16 of 31 – Kill Bill

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 16 is here and it's from a film that is a classic in my book. Today’s costume comes from:

I want to be Uma Thurman.

A quick trip over to Pasadena to find the house that Vivica A Fox (Vernita Green) lived in...

...was the ultimate backdrop for my costume!

I just didn't try to meet the real owners and incite a fight...

To complete the entire "Bride" costume from Kill Bill, here are the main elements you'll need::

1. The comfy white hoodie/pants combo (This one was Alternative Apparel and dyed yellow!)

2. Dye! (Yellow RIT all the way!)

3. Fabric Glue (Aleene's Flexible Stretchable is the way to go!)

4. Ribbon (Easiest way to get those black stripes!)

5. Sword (Here's an exact replica! I borrowed one from a friend who keeps it on his wall!)

So easy to DIY - I have the whole rundown in the costume chapter of my book for more details!

I grabbed my sword and got into place.

I can be the entire neighborhood watch!

I added a bit of red dye to the hoodie for some extra character :)

Who knew I'd be so comfortable with this sword??

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 15 is here and it's from a film that made me love LA after I had been living here for a bit. Today’s costume comes from:

A quick trip down the street for today's look to find where they shot this:

To complete a Steve Martin costume from LA Story, here are the main elements you'll need:

1. Black cardigan and pants (Both from my collection, but this is another easy find, whether you hit H&M or Salvation Army.)

2. The hat! (this white hat is c/o Party City)

3. Skates (I didn't bring my pair from inside in fear of getting kicked out, but to score a pair of your own, Amazon carries tons of options)

4. White blouse (Straight from my closet leftover from my serving days!)

Grab the skates, it's time to go to the museum!

So, I didn't actually bring my skates inside! I pretended to glide past the art like Steve Martin, though.

I would never have made it past those guards with my no-so-stellar skating skills.

I felt like a mime being framed in this piece of art outside. (PS, costume option #2 = mime!)

I rolled through the museum halls just like SM...

...sat and reflected...

...just like SM...

...and posed just like SM.

Now I'm in the mood to rewatch this!

Halloween Location Looks: Day 14 of 31 – Boogie Nights

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 14 is here and this has been one of my go-to costume for years when I was a blonde! Today’s costume comes from:

I love the 70s aesthetic, so I was super obsessed with this movie when it came out. The clothes, the music, the heart shaped sunglasses!

I used to get "you know who you look like" all the time with Heather Graham, so I used to pick characters she played in films as Halloween costumes.

So for this series, I couldn't resist! The gang spends some time inside the LA diner, Du-pars...

...so that's where I went to shoot this!

To complete a Rollergirl costume, here are the main elements you'll need:

1. Heart shaped sunglasses (Amazon has these for less than $4!)

2. The hair! (my wig is c/o Party City)

3. Rollerskates (Mine were snagged on ebay, but Amazon carries tons of options)

4. Halter (Snag a vintage one while thrifting!)

5. Knee socks (Something above the knee is perfect!)

Yeah, I haven't totally mastered the game of skating...yet.

Right in front of Du-pars, I put on my skates and started spinning!

I wonder if Heather took lessons?

The center parted blonde wig helped me channel the 70s vibe.

I used my actual camera instead of a Polaroid that Rollergirl uses, but I feel like I always see old ones at Goodwill for copycat perfection!
