Week 7: Sirona's NDAD Creation

Sorting through the creations I receive I usually try to tie them into the season, something I've done that's similar, when I post but in today's case, I'm just craving a trip to the beach.  Sirona gave me that beach scene in her after pic, so we're headed to the waves!!  PS, Los Angelenos, I hear it's gonna be 85 today!  Rest of the country...that just means spring is getting closer :) "I have loved following your blog since the day I first found it and it's so neat to see other's creations featured now that you have accomplished your 365 dresses in days. :)

I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of the skirt before I started fixing it up, but when I had it on it was pooling on the ground. I never could find anything to go with it as a top because of the busy pattern so I decided to try my hand at dress making.  I chopped off the bottom part two “layers” down. (This was made up of a patchwork of different squares that were in even rows. I had decided two of these rows would be enough to create a bodice.)

Sirona - Before

Let's see where my, my, my, my, my Sirona takes this!!  (OK, I took the creative liberty to change Sha- to Sir-ona.)

I cut the elastic band off of this top part and ended up with a short loop of material to work with.  I cut the loop (which was much wider than expected once I detached it from the elastic) down to a more workable size and then I attached the top of this piece to the top of the longer skirt piece left over from before so that the wider side, which was on the bottom before, was now on the top, making room for my figure.

Trimmin'

It took a ton of tweaking to get the bottom part to evenly space the gathered fabric as I attempted to sew this part together.  To get it just right I had to feed a long piece of thread back and forth through the fabric so it would have something to hang from while I scrunched it up and pinned it in place.  Once this was done, I tried it on and pinned the straps - just some ribbon I had around - and the zipper to get an idea of how much needed hemming at the top of the dress.

Piecing together...

Much pinning, repining, trying on, pinning again, and a bit of hand sewing later (my machine doesn't have the right foot for zippers) I managed to install the zipper and trim the extra fabric along the sides.  All that was left to do was some hand stitching to secure the straps...

Secured straps!

...and my creation was complete (I did fold one strap down and up again to shorten it and straighten the hemline out) - that's always an easy tweak in case the length is a bit wonky.

I was happy to wear it the very next day as we had gorgeous weather.

Sirona - After

Thank you so much for the inspiration! Keep up the creativity!"  (Here's Sirona's tumblr for more inspo!)

Love your beach dress S!  It's awesome to see what you did with it!!

Week 8: Bedazzin'

After getting a little bit of inspiration from Steve Madden and these puppies... Well hello heels!

...as well as the gals at Honestly, WTF remaking Miu Miu heels...

Honestly WTF's Miu Miu's

...tonight had craft night written in rhinestones!!

My gal CS scoped out the the above version and went identical, purchasing the same Zara booties (on sale!)...

Zara booties!!

...and a medley of multi-faceted stones.

Clear stones!

I went a little more on the technicolor side, using a mix of 5mm and 3mm stones...

Stones & Glue!!

...and snagged these bootie-esque heels from K-Mart on clearance for $9.09!  (They're there now and are actually super duper comfortable!)

K Mart heels!!

Glue stage came next!  We took toothpicks, dabbed them into the glue, put the glue on the shoe, and then added the stones.

CS dabbin'!

After a few hours of gluing...

Rolling Stones!

...we finished up with two super cute pairs of shoes to wear on the town!

Party Shoes!!

CS's are the Vegas booties and mine are the Mardi Gras heels!  (If I only had these when I was in New Orleans last month!!) This can work for any pair of heels that you might have in your closet too, especially the ones that have gotten nicks or scuffs on them - it's a cheap way to go glam!!

New shoes!

I'm looking forward to pairing these with something fun...

Full heeled-rhinestones!

...because they're multi-colored, it should be easy to match!

New heels!!

CS was rocking hers with rolled up jeans.  We were joking that we can only wear leggings and skinny jeans or dresses that are short enough to show off the shoes.

Looking way more expensive than they cost!

A fun night of crafting over pizza and homemade cheese (CS is a genius), catching up (you know, chatting about Dance Moms and Revenge - two total guilty pleasure shows), and discussing what to do for the next night of hand-craftery!!   Already anticipating the next one!!

Week 8: Charlotte

The story behind this dress, unfortunately does not come from a gal named Charlotte, but the city in North Carolina.  I picked it up along the way on my cross country journey.  We happened to come across a Goodwill pay-by-the-pound spot where I found this winner... Who knew Jessica Fletcher was authoring books during her mystery solving down time?!?

...and this one:

Week 8: Charlotte - Before

The purple intrigued me, but the fit did not.  I was liking what I saw from behind...

Back View!

...and the wheels got turning!!

With the button back and no darts in the front, I thought I'd do a little back-to-front switcharoo!!

I snipped the tag situated right next to the buttons in the back, so when it's turned around and unbuttoned, there won't be any tag business showing.

Trim that tag!!

Dress was put on, the top three buttons were opened, sleeves were rolled up, and waist was cinched with the matching belt.  PS, I was thrilled that the belt was actually still attached to the dress!!  I usually come across pieces sans waist cinchers :)

ECU!!

It was one of my best gal's birthday, so I put on the heels and headed out to dinner.

Favorite girls!

I was playing around with the shutter speed on the camera and got a lovely candid of the celebratee!

Birthday gal!

I also got a candid of the delish dessert, ricotta fritters with blueberries and whipped cream.  They were literally donuts.  Delicious, handmade, warm, donuts.

Fritters!!

After an evening of talking loud over the music and crowd, eating delectable desserts and toasting the birthday girl, I was ready for bed.  I got home, threw on the glasses, and began to unbuckle my heels.

It's Glasses Time

Oh, and the heels...thrifted Betsey Johnson, in pristine condition, for $12.

Bows!

They were 8.5 for my size 9 feet, but still fit.  Makin' it work on all levels!!
