Week 8: Oscar Rundown!

I have vivid memories as a kid staying up past my bedtime to watch the Oscars year after year on the east coast.  I was a movie junkie at a young age and the glamorous Oscar spectacle was always so alluring as a girl living in the 'burbs of Long Island.  Nothing seemed better than Los Angeles, the Shrine Auditorium (where they used to be held), and the red carpet of: SEQUINS

Cher's 1988 Bob Mackie ensemble

SUITS

Celine Dion's 1999 backwards white suit jacket

SATINY SLITS

Nicole Kidman's 1997 chartreuse embroidered Dior dress

I was anxiously awaiting today's show to get my yearly fill of glamour, couch-side.  There were a few pieces I loved and already the DIY wheels are turning in my head!

I love bold colors, so Michelle Williams' Louis Vuitton dress...

...and Emma Stone's red Giambattista Valli...

Emma Stone!

...were two of my faves.  I was on board with Emma's bow at the neck, even though some who were around me said she looked like a present waiting to be unwrapped.  I guess I'm just a bow gal :)

I was totally loving Jessica Chastain's complete look.  Her McQueen gown was regal...

...and anything that's hand embroidered just makes me giddy!

One of my favorite parts of the night was how Angelina Jolie's leg made such a spectacle in her Atelier Versace (her leg has it's own twitter feed, @AngiesRightLeg!)...

Legs-gelina Jolie!

...that Jim Rash made a subtle impersonation that didn't click until the commercial.  Pure genius.  He wins for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best College Dean on a TV show (Community), and Best Sense of Humor in a not-so-thrilling awards show.

Which ones were your favorites or least favorites?

Outfit post coming in a few short hours...

Week 9: Stacy's NDAD Creation

Today's remake comes from Stacy - I thought it fitting to use this piece she sent my way because it was totally reminiscent of the one I did this past week - a Turkish dress turned tunic that my aunt passed on to me.  We could be twinsies...  Here's mine as a refresher:

Marisa - Before

"I have been a huge fan of your blog for awhile now, and I have been inspired to do a few of my own remakes (with the help of my best friend Jen who makes fashion accessories, purses, etc. - and who taught me to sew last year).  This one we did was a dress to shirt transformation...

Here's Stacy's before:

We both had gold trim and gold cuffs - the only thing missing was a gold trimmed slit in the front!

I was drawn to the fun embroidered neckline and sleeves on the green top. I am pretty sure it was a housecoat from the 60-70's?  (I was totally drawn to the neckline too!!)

Thanks for the inspiration!"

I think we could totally be in a refashionista tunic gang  :)  Thanks for sharing Stacy!
Twinsies!!

Week 8: Esra

Today's piece came from within the family...my Aunt Esra handed this one over to me.  She's pregnant and gave me a few pieces to add to the collection - I totally scored on behalf of the little gal en route!  This one is is a dress from Turkey (she's Turkish) and I couldn't wait to make a few small tweaks. Week 8: Esra - Before

I love the gold trim, but this was just screaming tunic to me!!Grabbed my scissors...

Trim ready!

...and got cutting.  I cut a little over a foot off from the bottom, taking off the slit with the gold trim attached.

And we're cutting!

I was thinking about lining the bottom of the top with that gold trim, but there wasn't enough to go around, plus I liked the gold accent staying focused right at the neck.  There was a mini-hole situated right around where I cut, but with preparing a new hem and folding the bottom of the piece under, this was going to be hidden!

Live Through This ('lil Hole shout out...get it, Hole?!)

I pinned my new hem, sewed it down, and had my top ready to go!!  Such an easy tweak that looks super chic.

Quick and easy new hem!

I rolled the sleeves hiding the gold trim at the cuff edges, paired it with some skinny jeans along with my black swapped Kenneth Cole ankle boots, and my new tunic was complete.

Week 8: Esra - After

Love seeing how crazy my hair looks after the photos are taken...I turned my head upside down and bunned it.  Obviously I did not look in the mirror prior to the photo.  My head must be clouded with all the scents coming from my damp/dank closet :)

ECU!

PS, little update on the waterlogged/mildewy/moldy closet sitch...the building handyman arrived and got to work!

Two of six holes in my closet!

Apparently the leakage is coming from the cold water faucet of my upstairs neighbor's tub.  The tub mechanics are getting handled tomorrow and this debris...

Shelf that used to hold shoeboxes...

...should be gone in a few days.  I can't begin to thank all of you who submitted tricks and tips for cleaning my leather jacket.  I have a few more coats that had some water spottage/stains on them too that I caught today going through everything thoroughly.  I'm going to head to the dry cleaners tomorrow to get them back into wearable shape :)

Yay for Friday!!
