Day 129. 236 days and $232 left to go.

So, I didn't mention it in yesterday's post, but congrats to Duke for winning a little NCAA action (and congrats to Butler for really bringing it!!) My bracket exploded as soon as Kansas lost, so I was rooting for the Blue Devils to take it and not just because there's Duke blood in the fam :) Since I had been seeing lots of powder, periwinkle, and cornflower blues, I went with something completely on the other side of the spectrum today...melons, yellows, and corals. Quite easily one of my favorite color palettes. Day 129 - Before

Now this is looking like something outta The Brady Bunch's pilot wedding episode. Very Florence Henderson, especially if I had her fab bob haircut too. I came across this image courtesy of a Google search for "ugly vintage bridesmaid dresses" from somebody's wedding years and years ago and the one that I found for a buck could have most definitely been the back up.

Crikey!!

Seeing this picture has made me think that A, a long-sleeved bridesmaid dress will never be in the cards. B, a hint of orange works, but an entire skirt of what looks like an orange brocade does not (especially looking back at wedding photos). C, bouquets of flowers that look like oversized ice cream cones shouldn't be hanging from one's wrist. There are a few more, but I don't want to break the rule of three.

Time to take this from wedding party to just plain party with one major change. Length. Yep, with the deletion of a lot of floral fabric (about a foot and a half), we'll be dancing on the ceiling in no time. With my new raw edge, I pinned it and sewed it down to create a new hem.

I lucked out because the rest of the dress fit well and I didn't need to change anything else...

Day 129 - After

It totally works as a short number. The colors aren't as overwhelming and I don't look like I'm about to walk down the aisle in 1965 with those girls above. Woo hoo!! Ooh, and as I didn't want to cut the yellow ribbon that was hanging from the front of the dress, I opted to do a little wrapping that gave it a slightly Grecian feel.

From the back!!

I pulled it from the front to the back and tied a pretty little bow - love the wrap feel of it now too.

Such a fun piece to wear on a day where I got some blog love from a few local LA outlets - Thanks to DD for a fab piece on myself and a few other green gals in the city at Your Daily Thread and also a shout out at NBC LA!! To celebrate, I took my top, a glass of my fave Karma Champagne (and it's totally avail on Virgin America, fyi!) and my camera to document the happy :)

Cheers!!
