And the winner is...

You guys voted your faces off last week in the vintage showdown of Mauve Vs. Tropical. New Dress A Day - vintage show down

And by a pretty steep landslide, the winner is...

New Dress A Day - vintage dress

The full post comes later today, but let's just say that I found these lovely burn marks while working.

Because of where the holes fell on the dress (about mid-thigh)...

...I had to change my original plans of what I was going to do with it. But, that tends to be the fun part. A slight road block forces you to be more creative :) Stay tuned for the after look!

Kitty's NDAD Creation

When Kitty submitted this project, I knew that it would be perfect to feature this weekend for Father's Day! How about some repurposing of men's pieces? I think you're going to love what she created when you see it!

I love, love, love your blog! You've really inspired me to refashion my thrift store finds. I volunteer at the Humane Society Thrift Store in Boulder, CO so I have lots of clothes to choose from! Donations that can't be sold in the store are sometimes generously given to volunteers and I snagged a brand new pair of men's boxer shorts. (We don't sell underwear at the store.) These boxers had a 44 inch waist and were free to me.

There's no better price than free! See Kitty's amazing transformation...

I measured and cut the waist to fit me, shifted the fly front to the side and added a pocket in the fly opening, using the pocket pattern from a dress that I had made already.

Then I hauled out all my blue and white scrap fabrics and trims to see which ones I liked best with the plaid print.

I layered several of the scrap fabrics and trims together and then sewed it to the bottom of my new SKIRT!!!

This was something that I hadn't seen before on any of the blogs I read religiously, yours being the best of course.

On a happier note, the April 2014 issue of Elle magazine featured an Alexander Wang runway look that is extremely similar to my boxer skirt. It was on page 136 in the Fashion Trends section. Luckily I came to my senses before publishing a "B*#ch Stole My Look" post with photos of my refashioned boxer skirt next to Alexander Wang's skirt. (Just kidding!!!)

How gorgeous do you look, Kitty? You are a refashioning genius! I have to make a trip to Boulder to visit you at the Humane Society Thrift Store! I can't wait to see your next batch of pieces :) What a great way to repurpose boxers into something so chic and summery. For more from Kitty, click HERE!

DIY Scrabble Cufflinks

It’s Father’s Day this weekend, so I’m thinkin’ we craft something for Dad or the other males/father figures in our lives! I was totally in love with a pair of monogrammed cufflinks that Kevin Spacey's character Frank Underwood was given on House of Cards... HG - House of Cards cufflinks

...that I was inspired to make a lower budge version for Father's Day! Hello Scrabble tiles!?!

Here’s a rundown of the supplies you’ll need:

Hello Giggles - New Dress A Day - Supplies

1. Tacky Glue – (I used Aleene's "Turbo Tacky Glue" - it's got some serious hold power!)

2. Cufflink blanks (I ordered a dozen on Amazon – will have plenty for extra gifts!)

3. Scrabble pieces (if you can find one at a garage sale or at Goodwill, awesome! Otherwise snag a batch of letters on Amazon or ebay!)

This project literally couldn't be any easier. First, add a dab of tacky glue to the back of the cufflink blank.

Put your letter tile on top of the glued blank, push in place, and let dry.

Repeat the previous step to complete both cufflinks and let dry overnight.

How about that for some monogrammed action, Kev?

Taking the essence of the links from House of Cards, you can DIY dad or the boyfriend or the other family member/friend/pal/etc. a pair of monogrammed cufflinks of their own.

Dad, you'll be getting your DL letters in the mail soon!!
