Amber's NDAD Creation

My girl Amber submitted a piece a while back (refresher HERE!) and I have to say that I'm obsessed with what she does. Her before looks are totally on par with mine as well, which cracks me up! I love the "let's give sour face when we're wearing something not so pleasant" move. It's my go-to when I'm shooting the before looks - I live for the sour face and she totally nails it. Also, her recreations have been über chic. See what she's up to today!!

My roommate was cleaning out her closet and was tossing this shirt, so I got it for free! Obviously it doesn't fit my bust region, so I'm going to turn it into a skirt!

Let’s turn this puppy into a truck, y’all!

I sewed closed the arm holes first.

It might be hard to tell, but the 'bottom' of the skirt had a thick hem. It made a perfect 'top' of my skirt. I cut a tiny hole in the hem and fed some elastic through.

The last thing I did was cut the original neck hem off. Since this was a jersey material there was no need to re-hem.

That's it! It was super easy.

Even Chip & Dale approve. :)

I'm jumping on that approval wagon too! I love your new skirt and I love even more that it started out as that too big, ill-fitted shirt that your roomie was going to toss. I bet you she's wishing she hadn't passed it your way after seeing what you did! Keep the remakes coming!!

Copycat: Tommy Hilfiger Belt Print Skirt

Today's project comes about after finding a tear sheet tucked away of Tommy Hilfiger's fall 2012 collection! New Dress A Day - DIY - Tommy Hilfiger Belt Print Skirt

I was always so drawn to the fabulous belt print of these pieces...

...that I wanted to create my own version!  This town and country vibe had to come to life and I finally had the pieces to make this myself!  Time to DIY!

I started with a thrifted skirt...

...and then paired it with the most fabulous belt/chain/charm print from an old scarf.  The puzzle pieces are complete!

To make this work, I used some fusible webbing and ironed it to the back (wrong side) of the scarf material.

Once the backing was attached, I trimmed around the outlines of the belts, chains, and cording...

...to make individual little strips to attach to the skirt.

I peeled the backing off of the strips and placed them onto the skirt.

Once they were in place, I ironed them down, using a damp piece of cotton in-between the iron and the fabric.

Post-ironing, my skirt was complete!

I paired my belted/chained/charmed skirt with a vintage golden blouse, Calvin Klein heels, and a Trina Turk clutch to complete the look!

Remake: Orange Floral Dress

Knock, knock. Who's there?

Orange.

Orange, who?

Orange you glad to see me, what are you wearing?!?

Excellent question!!

I love me some orange, but this isn't quite the look that I'm going for. Just give me a quick half hour and I'm going to have this ready to wear in public.

I started off by cutting the dress in half, trimming above the elastic waist, saving 1/2".

Two piece success!!

I pinned under the saved area above the elastic waist...

...and stitched it in place.

How about that?? Three major steps to go from not so much to beach ready!!

New skirt in this 80 degree weather? Yep, that would most definitely be the outcome of this project.

I paired my new and now not-so-overwhelmingly-orange skirt with my favorite Alternative Apparel burnout tank, Forever 21 ($6!!!!!) Sunnies, vintage Dooney & Bourke saddle bag, Frye sandals (these are similar), and brown elastic belt I scored at a swap party!

The floral drawing/design is so much easier to swallow when it's not covering my body!

This screams summer to me, so hopefully it will shoot off some warm weather vibes to those still dealing with the cold! I mean daylight savings has arrived, so we're totally on the path to summer.
