Tuesday Giveaway: Nail Goodies

I'm back on the mend, yay!  I'll be getting up a slew of 31 Days of Thrift posts today, so in the interim, I'm doing a fun giveaway of all things that I'm obsessed with...NAILS!! I put together a little kit of all the necessary materials to DIY yo nails including the following...

New Dress A Day - DIY - Giveaway - Win Nail Polish

The cutest pig nail clipper that I've ever seen, a pair of toe separators, a nail brush, a glitter leopard print nail file, a pumice stone, star nail decals, and a bottle of blue nail polish, perfect for the end of summer/beginning of fall!

To enter leave a comment below of your favorite nail color, whether it's a specific shade from your fave nail polish brand or the general shade!  In general I tend to go with the seasons - dark in the fall and lighter in the summer, but I'm always a fan of doing a light pink on my fingers.  Essie's Ballet Slippers is always a good pick!  A winner will get chosen next week!

More posts to come today...check back in!!

Monday Remake: Breaking Bad Edition

Happy Monday, friends!!  I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. This weekend was really exciting for me because I am a total Breaking Bad addict and the final season began.  I binge watched last summer and became a huge fan.  (Who else is on the BB boat with me?)  To celebrate the beginning of the end, I had to create a little ensemble to wear for my viewing getogether.  This included a blank t-shirt and some iron-on transfer paper.

Yep, it's t-shirt time!!

I found an image of Heisenberg online, printed it out onto the transfer paper, and then trimmed around the edges of the image.  This will work for any image you'd like to use, Breaking Bad fan or not :)

I placed the image onto my shirt and then pressed it with an iron, following the directions on the packaging.

Once the image was ironed, I let it cool for a few minutes, and then peeled off the backing.

I was thrilled with the outcome!!

Now, what's a party without themed goodies??  I was on dessert patrol and took it very seriously.  This meant cupcakes.  Lots of cupcakes.  Tying into the theme, I took some blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers and crushed them into little pieces...

...before topping them on some vanilla cupcakes.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Breaking Bad Cupcakes - Blue Ice

If you watch the show you know that this is Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) claim to fame - his blue methamphetamine.  I didn't just stop there... I took another plot point, the Lily of the Valley/ricin incident...

...and made these pretty guys!

Just some crumbled oreo cookies on top of chocolate cupcakes with a "lily of the valley" stem in terracotta pots.  I actually can't wait to make these again - I'm thinking a garden party themed evening perhaps?  They looked so pretty.

With my cupcakes in hand, new shirt being worn, and a Walter White smirk on my face, I was ready to watch the show.

Oh, goodness it was good.  No spoilers here, but the next seven weeks are going to be good.  Ooh, eee!!

Diane's NDAD Creation

When I see "Golden Girls" in the first sentence of a submission, I'm hooked.  There's nothing like finding a piece that's totally Blanche-worthy when you're out hitting the thrifty racks.  Enough with the intrigue...

I found this ugly Golden Girls era Lesley Faye dress in the thrift store for $2.00 and after reading your blog for a few months, I decided to give it a try.  It was about 3 sizes too big and had the biggest shoulder pads I've ever seen!

There's always got to be shoulder pads...time to see what Diane does!!

I cut off and finished the sleeves and I got rid of the shoulder pads - ugh!  I raised the waistline next, took it in about 3 inches on each side, and cut off the hem.  I used the fabric remnants to make a sash/belt to wear with it!

I wore it to church and got many compliments on it, so I guess it was a success!

It was a total success, Diane!  I love what you did with the dress and it has no inkling of feeling like the GG gals anymore.  I'm sure the compliments will keep coming in with each wear.
