31 Days of Thrift: Day 2

For Day 2 of my 31 Days of Thrift, using all 31 pieces I scored at Housing Works, I decided to go with one of my dresses! DAY 2/31:

#22 – Forever 21 navy silk dress

I didn't notice when I picked up the dress, but...

...the dress had POCKETS!!  I was so happily surprised, as you can see from the face below.

This will be awesome to wear in the fall with a neutral cardigan or sweater, boots, and some stockings, however I styled this with metallic shoes to match the buckle on the vintage belt I put around the waist.  I wanted to bring in a lighter palette to keep it summerized.

How much do I love the back!!  I put a navy cami on under the dress so the same shade would peek through, however this could be fabulous with a something neon or a lighter pastel too.  Yep, I was doing the Charleston on the street, like you do...

31 Days of Thrift: Day 1

Today starts my 31 days of garments pulled from my Housing Works Thrift Store "buy the bag" stash!! New Dress A Day - Buy the Bag - Housing Works Thrift Store - thrift store shopping

Thanks for all your input in deciding how to showcase all the garments!  (Click here to see the original post for a little refresher.)  I snatched up so many incredible pieces from my haul that I'm going to create a new outfit with the goods for each day of August.  My original count was 30 pieces, however there was one that I didn't include because I had dropped it off to get dry cleaned, so 31 days, 31 pieces.  FYI, the outfits are going to cross seasons and everything won't be August appropriate because I do have some sweaters and velvet that need to make appearances.  I'm just gonna get you rull, rull ready for fall and winter too.  (I know, I know...I don't want summer to end either!)

DAY 1/31:

#11 - Paper Denim & Cloth jeans

This is totally something I'd wear on a low-key date night or to meet up with girlfriends for Happy Hour!

I played around with the shirt a bit and ended up tucking in the front portion and letting the back portion hang a little lower.

Wednesday Remake: Oversized White Blazer

I really couldn't wait to get this piece home with me when I saw it! New Dress A Day - DIY - vintage blazer - Goodwill

I had big plans to work on some bold color-blocking from the pockets down...

...however I was inspired by some other things that helped me change my mind.

Color-blocking will have to be put on hold for the moment, but check out what I did instead!

I still decided to do some blazer painting, however it's going to stay in one area;  the collar!!  I began with Duck Brand duct tape in hot pink, just because I'm obsessed with that color, and I outlined the areas around the collar that I didn't want the paint to bleed onto.

For the fabric paint, I used some Simply Spray in the black stencil variety...

...and started to spray away.  I covered my workspace (my outdoor patio table that I have yet to begin making awesome) with some paper towels to avoid getting paint on the ground.

The best part was the rad collary stencil design that was leftover after I painted!!

I let the paint dry...

...and then peeled off the tape!

The jacket was still needing help, so I cut the bottom portion of the jacket off right at the faux pockets.

I got rid of the shoulder pads...

...and then pinned the bottom of the coat to create a new hem.

I took in the sleeves and body of the jacket just a smidge and then sewed everything in place.

After a little sprucing up, my new jacket was ready to wear.

I LOVED how this turned out.

Yep, loved it so much that I had a little "jump in place" party on the sidewalk.  If I only had confetti to throw, then it would have been a real party.

From oversized blazer to new tux jacket, who woulda thunk it?

So let's be honest, I was using Justin Timberlake as my inspiration and I put my best JT face forward on during my shoot.

I couldn't resist wearing my new piece to his show too.

I think he'd be proud!
