Tuesday GIveaway!!

I'm finally prepping for the last trip of the year...getting ready to spend the holidays in Charlotte (along with a signing on Sunday) with the fam!! I'm going to have my own little GTL moment this week before I leave, except it's going to be more like GSL (gym, sew, laundry) because this girl don't get tan, y'all!  I'm unpacking from the other trips (yes, there are currently 5 duffle bags/suitcases from those trips that haven't fully been unpacked), baking sweets for holiday events this week, and also picking up/checking off holiday gifts! Speaking of gifts...I have a fun one to offer today!  It's comprised of a few of my favorite things.  (Unforch, raindrops on roses is not in this mix!)

Mom's NDAD Creation

I just got back home from my LA-SF road trip weekend where I got to hang out with some of my favorite people and meet a bunch of you guys!  I'll be doing a full rundown of all the signing parties next week, right before the holidays :)  Speaking of holidays, and all the fun holiday events/parties going on, today's remake comes from my mom (yay!!) who put together her own NDAD holiday piece to share.  I absolutely love it!!

I have been with you on this wonderful journey from the very beginning and being that I am a charter member of the NDAD club, I felt the urge to send you a creation of my own to share!  You have inspired me as well as thousands of others and I am overflowing with pride to see what you have accomplished through all of your hard work, dedication and perseverance.

I purchased the dress for my refashion from Goodwill and it was almost free with the senior discount I was given - 55 and older get 25% off on Tuesdays!  I was looking for something to make into a holiday piece and came across this too big, too long, pin-wale corduroy cranberry colored dress, which had a button missing.

After giving it some thought I decided to take it home and try to create a holiday top.

What will my mom come up with????

The sleeves were shortened to become 3/4 length…

…and the bottom half of the skirt was removed.

(I can't wait to play with this excess material when I get to NC!!)

I removed the remaining buttons...

I took out the shoulder pads…

...and the black velveteen collar.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - No more velvet!!

In order to make it look more festive and glittery, I decided to add a pretty gold trim and gold buttons.  I left the neckline as it was once the collar was removed and sewed it back to the original facing.

There were two ties sewed into back seams so I brought them around to the front and attached them with a button in the center. The top had to be taken in around the armholes and sides as well to give it a more fitted look.  My favorite earrings that I like to wear during the holidays (I call them my Christmas tree earrings because they are in the shape of a tree and have these colorful crystals hanging down) looked fabulous with my new top!

From a distance the corduroy fabric has the look of velveteen.  I can wear this top with pants, a skirt or even jeans depending on the occasion.  Bring on the holidays - Thanksgiving through New Year's = my favorite time of the year!!

One of the best gifts of the season is having you visit us for a few weeks!!

Aww, how cute are you Mom??  Thank you for sharing this with everyone!!  You look gorge :)

I'm looking forward to family time and I'm totally heading to Goodwill with my mom to reap her 25% off benefits!!  I can guarantee that there will be lots of projects going on in late December.

Anna Katherine's NDAD Creation

I have a new favorite person in my life and her name is Anna Katherine.  Not only am I obsessed with her facial expressions... New Dress A Day - DIY - Goodwill shirt

...but totally obsessed with everything about this outfit.  Here's her story.

Hi, I'm Anna Katherine, a 12 year-old girl who loves to sew.  I just found your blog a few weeks ago and I have been enjoying reading it since. During a trip to Goodwill with my mom and sister, I found a shirt that was really ugly, but after being inspired by you, I saw a potential for it.  It was pretty expensive for Goodwill ($4.25) but I bought it anyways.  I even heard later on that my mom whispered to my sister, "What in the world is she gonna do with that?"

What in the world is she going to do with it?  Any ideas...

The minute I got home, I got out my sewing machine and started working.  I cut out the collar and then began to sew a V neckline.  I flipped the shirt around next, sewed up where the buttons were, and voila!

I love this!!  It went from a crazy button down, to boho chic with that belt!!  Miss AK, you totally made me proud!  Can't wait to see your next remake!!
