Francie's NDAD Creation

Nothing like a little team action to really get the thrifting juices flowing.  So we begin with a little ditty about Francie and Jessie...

My friend Jessie and I love to scour thrift stores for the perfect dress to turn into something that's more wearable…and less nursing home.  We picked up these dresses out at a 50% Value Village sale and my mom thought we looked like we belonged to a strange religious cult so we played along in the pictures.

Such great actresses...  Here's the full rundown of F & J!

What will Francie do with those dots??

I chopped the sleeves off of my dress and also shortened it, using the leftover fabric to make a scarf.

I also modified the neckline slightly.

I was very satisfied with the end result!  Jessie is still working on her dress...any ideas?

I am beyond satisfied with the end result too Francie!!  I'm thrilled you kept the buttons and the darts at the waist - it's such a delicate and feminine touch to the piece and I love that you shortened it and went sleeveless!  It's something that could totally work with some tights too, making it colder-weather appropriate!!

Have Jessie send in her piece once she finishes!  If she's still working on it, I love the idea of following the print of the dress.  I'd use those diagonals in my favor!  Perhaps, trim a deep V-neck following the lines and then cut it short turning it into a tunic.  Pair it with a camisole underneath or wear it to the beach?  Just a thought....  Keep me posted on how it turns out!

Tina's NDAD Creation

I loved Tina's piece that she crafted from a shirt, mostly because I've been cold and craving some of what she made!!

Marisa, I finally found something worth submitting. I found this little girls shirt at a local thrift store for 25 cents and loooved, did I say loved the design. It is kind of a psychedelic zebra print.  I did not have anyone to model it so here it is...

Zebra print, woo!!  Time to see what she makes :)

First off, I cut it into a few pieces because I'm making arm warmers and a neck warmer!!

For the arm warmers, I cut a hole out of the seam for my thumb and hand sewed around the hole and the seam to prevent running and for the neck warmer, I only had to hand sew one side since the other side was the bottom of the shirt!

And voila...me in my fab new accessories.

Now I just have to think of something out of the top part.

I have been keeping up with your daily designs!!  Girl you have it going on and I am so very glad you have allowed us to go along for the ride.  Take Care, Tina

Tina, I love this!!  I can't wait to see what you do with the remnants.  The psychedelic-y, zebra-esque print is fabulous.  What fun pieces to warm up with!!

Happy Rainy Friday!

Happy rainy Friday from LA!!  It's been such a treat getting this fall-ish weather, however my allergies/weird congestion has been keeping me drinking tea and taking lots of vitamins.  I've been sewing and prepping outfits for this weekend's Unique LA event, (as well as outfits for next week's SD craft/signing night & SF afternoon soiree - click to RSVP)... Unique LA

where I'll be running the DIY Den making ribbon headbands (as well as having books on hand to sign)!!  I'll do a tutorial next week for everyone here on the site - they're awesome for gifts for the gals!

New Dress A Day - DIY Supplies

I'm excited to be a part of this because it's the biggest independent design show in the country with over 350 artists/designers selling their handmade wares.  Handmade gifts for the holidays for everyone!  For those SoCal-ers in town this weekend and wanting to beat the rain, totally head downtown to the Cal Mart.  It's $10 to enter, but you get a tote bag and a portion of the proceeds benefits the non-profit, Inner-City Arts.  The DIY is free (!!) and there are tons of sponsored bevvies, a photo booth to take pics in, on top of the awesome tables of goodies being sold.

New outfits posts from the weekend will be posted next week!

What's on everyone's weekend after Thanksgiving agenda??
