61 Days to Go: NDAD's Geico & Sundance Channel Commersh

So a few weeks back I got to participate in a commercial for the Sundance Channel in partnership with Geico featuring people who can do cool things in 15 minutes!  I was thrilled to be contacted to participate and the piece is finally up and running!  It's only airing on the Sundance Channel and if your cable provider is anything like mine, you probably don't have it :) I made a few adjustments to actually get to see it run live! I wanted to share, because I'm super proud of how it came out.

A little disclaimer, I don't have Geico as my insurance provider and got to do this purely for the promotional aspect for the independent channel :)

62 Days to Go: Megan's NDAD Creation

Today, Megan takes the stage!!  She's getting ready to start her senior year at school and I'm hoping this year is full of fab, new remakes on her end!

I've been following your blog since freshman year of college, and finally at the end of junior year I grew a pair and decided to give it a shot!  I was a little afraid to go for anything too crazy, cause I don't have your amazing eye for seeing potential and especially since the thrift stores in my town don't seem to sell anything for only $1!  I ended up picking this 2-sizes-too-big dress for $8.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Megan's Before

It's a nice fabric and was in halfway decent condition, except it was totally shapeless and the straps were ick.  So ick, in fact, whoever owned it before had cut them off and resewed them elsewhere...twice!!

A, I love the word ick and I really can't wait to reincorporate that into my rotating words to describe "not so much"

B, I'm super excited to see what Meg's solush was!

My solution - scrap them entirely!   After I removed them, I gathered the bust, and then took it in.  Instead of taking in the side seams, I took in the seam down the back, so that the adjustment was equal on both sides.  I cut off the excess fabric from the inside and used it to make halter ties.  I threw on a belt to break up the print and ta-da!  Marisa-ified!!

...except for the dorky what-am-I-supposed-to-do-with-my-hands after pic, ha ha!!  Thanks for being so inspirational - no way I would have come up with this on my own and I'm thrilled to have a new, cute, CHEAP dress!!

I'm a total dork all the time taking my pics, so girl...we're in it together!  I LOVE this dress.  What a wham, bam, thank you ma'am piece you've got going.  Can't wait to see what else you've got in store!!

63 Days to Go: Wendy's NDAD Creation

Miss Wendy sent along her very first refashion to be shared with everyone.  This is an exciting moment, people!

I LOVE your blog/project/challenge/event/all of the above! was inspired by your Harvard sweatshirt redo (refresher here!). I can't find my before photo, but picture a huge long sleeved, heavy sweatshirt.

I took the liberty to find something along these lines to get an idea...

It's just too hot to think of wearing a sweatshirt, so let's see what Wendy did to change this!

It was too heavy and baggy to wear, so I decided to refashion it into a "warm weather" wearable.  I chopped off the neck and sleeves, narrowed the sides, and used a thin piece of leftover shirt material for the halter tie.

Keep up your inspiring work!"

Wendy, I love what you did!!  What an awesome first go.  My only adjustment would be the school on your shirt :)  Just kidding, however I have a ton of UT friends who would be very thrilled to see this being worn loud and proud!  Can't wait to see the next project you have up your sleeve!
