89 Days to Go: $1 Remake

It's summer!!  I'm loving the bold colors, so this dress needed to come home with me.  It's bright yellow and has white stripes...total perfection! Well perfection, aside from a few things...

Also, there were some issues of the hole varietal!

I'm not really loving the looseness up top either.  I couldn't even try this on without a tank!

It's time to make this summer worthy!  Let's tend to the tweaking!!  (Say that three times fast!!)

So, this was what was in the seam of the top - the nylon, ribbon-y material (I thought it was just old elastic but I was wrong) was knotted in a few areas and unraveling...

...so out it came!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Cutting Worn Out Ribbon - 89

I took some gorge gold and rust coiled ribbon from my collection that I thought would look lovely with this dress.

I safety pinned the edge of the ribbon and began to push it through the seam!  This trick has been working wonders on pieces lately!!

I made the trip all the way around the neck seam with the ribbon and trimmed the edges, leaving enough to gather and make a bow.

Now on to tackle the holes!  The more I looked over the piece, the more openings I was finding!  The skirt part seemed to be hand sewn in places which made me think that this piece had already had some hole issues in the past.  I scoured the dress and pinned all the problem spots.

Luckily all of the holes were found on the seams making them an easy fix, however there were many of these "easy fixes."  Onto the sewing machine I went with all my fixes to mend.

I added a braided red leather belt to tie into the ribbon color and was ready for some Mexican eats!

Nothing like gorging on some tacos, guac, and margies with my lovely cousins in town before I take off to the airport myself!!

It was nice to spend a little bit of time with M & B before heading to LAX.  It's family visit time for me!!

This was the perfect plane wardrobe - comfortable and non constricting!!  Plus the flip flops are key, just for the ease of taking off at the security checkpoint if nothing else.

After lugging bags from one terminal to another I finally got to sit and chill at the gate. (Small side note - I mistakenly went to the airline that was on my confirmation email/ticket instead of the airline that was written in small writing at the bottom of the email/ticket saying 'operated by'.  I got my flight through Kayak and didn't pay attention as well as I should have.  Time wasn't an issue because I got there early, but schlepping my BIG and HEAVY checked bag along with my carry-ons from the wrong terminal to the airport shuttle to the right terminal to the elevator to the ticketing counter to the TSA agent (yeah, the TSA agents were checking the bags) gave me a slight case of the sweats.  It also taught me a lesson - read the tickets carefully and don't pack as much!)

I'm about four years late into the Stieg Larsson trend, but as the plane took off I began my journey into the world of Lisbeth Salander.  And without trying, look what else matched.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Flight Reads

I landed, made my way through half the book, and got some gnarly sore spots on my shoulders from all the bag straps I carried.  Overall, a totally successful flight.

Happy Monday :)
