Day 50. 315 days and $310 left to go.

Well hello day 50...you've arrived! It's a little milestone in the yearlong journey I'm on, so another journey had to take place and Vegas we went. I mean nothing's better than a little bit of roadtripping with the girls, LP & KN - Mick Jagger piping through the speakers, strawberry milkshakes from Burger King (because we're on vacation...), and searching for a Dunkin' Donuts (because none actually exist in LA, which is a complete travesty) for what felt like hours. But the main part of this trip was bringing a celebratory dress that would celebrate this 50th day in the right way - with sequins! Here is what we had to work with...

Day 50 - Before

Hello Joan Collins and Dynasty, you're back! This dress had the largest shoulder pads that I've ever seen before and they needed to go. My original thought was to cut the sleeves and make them 3/4 length, however after a little bit of assessing I opted to be bold and just take 'em off and go sleeveless. I grabbed my seam ripper and began to de-thread the dress at the arms. I loved the raw edging of the sequined fabric after I took the sleeve off, so I left it. The rest of the piece was in excellent condition - the silk skirt fit perfectly, there were pockets (!!!) and I loved the deep cut of the top, however I couldn't let it be completely open all the way to my waist. I know it's a Vegas weekend, but I'll leave that much cleavage to the showgirls. All I did was grab two safety pins to clasp the open area at the waist and going up about three inches together and it was ready for the strip.

Day 50 - After

Hello Vegas, my dollar dress is complete and it's celebration time! I told you I'd take polaroids to chronicle the mini-vaca, so enjoy. What happens in Vegas doesn't always have to stay there...

The evening begins with shots...

Shots!!

...overlooking the strip which you can't see. (There's also a space heater on this lovely rooftop patio which was ruling when we took this pic)

Cut to photo taking in front of hotel mirrors...

End of the eve...

...and high fiving over the DJ playing Naughty by Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray"

I give props to hip hop so hip hop hooray, ho, hey...

And a Vegas night can only be complete with grubbing into the wee, wee, wee hours...

Burgering in the wee hours...

Sorry it took a little longer to get this puppy up today...late night+cocktails+dancing+lost memory card+swallowed contact (that story will stay in Vegas)=later posting than planned. But, to make it up to you, I'm going to give one of these away. With the extra fabric from the dress sleeves, I crafted a little cuff...check it out!

CUFF!!

I cut a rectangular strip from the leftover sleeve and sewed a few buttons on it with some velcro as my accessory for the night. Send me a pic of your favorite celebratory outfit and why you heart it along with where you went and for what to newdressaday@gmail.com by Friday, 1/22. A winner will be chosen, pic will be posted and cuff will be sent your way to wear at your next social soiree.

Enjoy the day off tomorrow! I will play catch up and be back on track :) xx Marisa
