31 Days of Thrift: Day 11

It’s Day 11 and out came the other dress to wear today! DAY 12/31:

21 - Lime/brown sheer dress – Soo Lee London

New Dress A Day - thrift store shopping - Housing Works - Buy the Bag

It was super sheer, so I had to pair a little something underneath.  It ended up looking just like this...

It's so funny because I was totally drawn to the dress because of the pattern and colors, but wasn't really sure how it was going to be on.

The black slip worked wonders underneath and the dress fit like a glove.

Dress: Soo Lee London // Slip: Vintage // Clutch: Vintage Navy Leather // Heels: BCBG // Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters // Knot Ring: H&M

I love this green/navy palette going on and this is something that could easily transition into fall, simply because of the coloring.  How 'bout some tights and sweaters for the next wear??

More looks coming your way...we're not even halfway there yet!

Tuesday Remake: Dusty Rose Lace & Pleats

This was a total Pretty In Pink-feeling dress as soon as I saw it.  Lace overlay and pleats??  What's not to love? New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Goodwill

It was large on me and I had some ideas as soon as I saw the seam between the top portion of the lining and the pleated skirt.

Time to get to work, Andie Walsh-style!!

I began by trimming the piece in two, cutting right around the inch and a half mark above the pleated skirt.

I'm still going to work on the lace portion down the road, but today I'm focusing on the bottom!

I loved the rounded portion of the seam which originally fell right around the stomach, and thought this would be gorgeous as a top, using the rounded area as my center.  i pinned the raw edges down to prep a new seam next.

Since we're making this a top, I found some pretty tan elastic that would work perfectly as straps.  I liked this pink/brown combo, keeping it super neutral.  I measured the amount of elastic, cut, and pinned both pieces in place on the front and back of the top...

...and sewed them in place.  A new seam was sewn next and the top was taken in at the bust to make it as fitted as possible.  I wanted to maintain the flowiness, of the top, so I didn't take in the piece where it was pleated.

Post-sew, my new top was ready for a night in, crafting with girlfriends.

I love the bohemian feel and this is something that could totally work with a longer fitted skirt underneath as well.

For my chill night in, I threw on my Havaianas and a vintage necklace that had beads in the exact same shade as my top.  (I love when that happens!)

The fabulous CS hosted a summer "craftevening" complete with a Swedish smorgasbord of eats paired with sewing.  The table of sweets was ridiculous...

...but the table with Swedish meatballs and a homemade smörgåstårta (basically a savory, sandwich cake) was where I was headed.  CS doesn't mess around when she plans these crafty nights!

We started off catching up and noshing and then got down to crafty business!  There were embroidery hoops and instructions for everyone...

...along with tons of stencils to choose from.  All the Sublime Stitching prints were fabulous!

I was going to go with a zombie but then settled on this...

Maybe I was inspired by the real deal that we were feasting on?

I grabbed my colors...

...and started embroidering!  Nothing like a little bit of shrimp sushi to make me happy!

I'll get the after shot up as soon as it's done!  New art for the kitch, perhaps??  We'll just have to wait and see where this ends up!

Jessi's NDAD Creation

I absolutely loved this copycat by Jessi.  I'm a cardigan girl and with fall right around the corner, this piece is something that we all can make for ourselves just in time for the crisper temperatures to appear.  Here's Jessi's piece...

I stumbled across your blog a few months back and have been hooked ever since. I am an avid garage sale/thrift store junkie myself so I love seeing all the inspiration.  I was reading my Glamour magazine a few months back and saw this picture of an Anna Sui cardigan.  I love the new trend of animals on clothing, but can't spend $99 on a sweater so I took it upon myself to recreate.

I had this cardigan in my closet.  I bought it a few years ago at Target and it has a hole in the front that a strategically placed owl will cover.

Let's see how Jessi's owl cardi turns out!

I found some pink felt (since I loved the pink/navy blue combo), got out my jewels ,and raided my mother-in-law's collection.  Once I laid out the pattern, I used a rhinestone glue to set the gems and charms in place.  Once they dried, I went back and sewed them down with translucent thread.

I cut out the silhouette and glued it on the cardigan using washable fabric glue.

After the glue dried, I went back and used a silver metallic thread to add a border. Ta-Da!

I love it and it didn't cost me anything!  Thanks so much for the inspiration!

This is SO FAB, Jessi!  I am loving this and need to add this to my to-do list for fall.  The pink/navy combo is one of my favorites and this looks even better than the Anna Sui version.  Take that, $99!!
