Thursday Giveaway!

How's everybody's week going so far?  The holiday weekend always has me on a slight delay...I have been off with my days (I actually wrote Wednesday in the title of the post and just had to go back and tweak) and need to play serious catch up! I have two fun trips coming up - Palm Springs this weekend and NY next week - and I've been trying to get some pieces prepped, so today I've got a giveaway on tap.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Giveaway - Urban Outfitters Earrings

I found these awesome resin floral studs with pearls and rhinestones at Urban Outfitters and had to get a pair to giveaway.  (I also had to get a pair for myself too, because I only wear studs or hanging earrings that I've made into clip-ons and these were just so fab.)

To enter, leave a comment below with what you did over the weekend, if you're out of sorts like I am, or if holiday weekends leave you re-energized/lethargic.  A winner will get picked next week before I leave for NY!

Thrift Store Shopping: Yellow Eyelet Dress

I went thrifting last weekend and purchased this lovely garment from the American Way Thrift Store in Burbank (one of my faves!). I was totally  drawn in because of the amazing color... New Dress A Day - DIY - vintage dresses - thrift store dress

...fab embroidery, and eyelet lace, however it wasn't made for an adult.

This was straight outta the kids section!  I couldn't close the top of the dress if I tried!

That obviously didn't stop me from purchasing it!

I can't wait to turn this from pint size to my size!

Since the straps were not going to get around me, I decided to take them off!

I was left with these lovely pieces...

...and folded them under to pin an even waistline before trimming the remnants off.  We're heading down the skirt road for this piece!

With my new waistline pinned...

...I stitched it in place.

There were snaps in places that didn't work, so I removed them, measured my waist, and readded them to the new spots that I measured to fit me!

With my snaps in place, I was ready to enjoy the day!

New Dress A Day - DIY - thrift store dress - Goodwill - Recycled Dress

I paired my new piece with a light yellow and white striped knit top.  I loved the pattern mixing and thought the stripes and florals were fun to match up.

With my new outfit complete, I was off to the 'cues!

The fruit salad was all chopped up and ready to serve!

I stayed away from the grill, however there was some serious chef action happening with chicken, brisket, and lots of pork!

I got to hang with my big pals...

...and little pals...

...which was the perfect way to enjoy the day.

RS finished and prepped his pulled pork that had been brining/smoking/marinating for hours while we all waited in anticipation to get our first bite.  I've made crock pot pulled pork before, but I've never put in the same love (and patience) as RS!

I piled on lots of goodies and got to chomping!  (I actually need to find out RS's recipe for brisket because that was also served and it was insane.  Any of you have delicious brisket recipes out there?)

New Dress A Day - DIY - thrift store dress - BBQ Food - Plate of BBQ

We had plenty of savory treats, but the sweets were in full effect as well.  I was obsessed with this hamburger cake!!

I'm not going to lie, I definitely had the meat sweats after I went to town on my plate o'grub!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!  Sending all my love to the men and women of the armed services!

Sunday Remake: Arrested Development Edition

I got today's lovely piece from my gal Sonya Nimri.  We have fun trading stuff to each other that we don't like for ourselves - I'll bring over shoes that don't work for me but are perfect for her and vice versa. I guess I just lucked out with this piece.

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Never Nudes

Does this skirt not scream 80s hair band?  I smell Poison, Guns n Roses, Def Leppard...

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Never Nudes

...and Arrested Development (not the band) which starts back up on Netflix today!!!  For the AD fans, this piece made me think of Tobias Fünke (David Cross) and his suffering from being a Never Nude.  (For the non-fans, this Never Nude syndrome forces Tobias to never be nude, always wearing cut-off jorts under his clothes.  Ridiculous and amazing.)

I'm so excited about the new season and I'm such a huge fan of the show that I went to the pop-up banana stand this past week in LA to indulge in an "On the go-go banana" (OK, just a regular chocolate covered one)...

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Never Nude - Bluth Banana Stand

...and thought this skirt would be my Never Nude uniform :)

I began by taking my scissors and hacking off the bottom, handkerchief-y/fringe-y portion of the skirt.  I started at one side, where the edge of the V started...

...and made my way completely across to the other side.  Even though keeping the skirt looking like this would be a mullet-tastic look...

...and completely Bret Michaels approved, I just couldn't bring myself to stop here.  I trimmed the bottom layer to match and now had a perfectly normal looking denim skirt!

There were some super awesome (yeah, not so much) belt loops that I just couldn't wait to take off.

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Fringe Skirt

With the loops gone and the skirt freshly trimmed...

...I'm ready to never be naked again!  I went with the cut-off skirt...

...while Tobias was keeping it real with the jorts.  Nothing like trying on a pair of underwear like this...

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Never Nude - Tobias Fünke

The fringe paired with the dye colors and pattern on the denim made it feel super dated, however with the fringe gone I was totally on board with the extreme dark and light areas.

This will be an awesome piece to throw on top of a bathing suit or to wear to the beach!

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Fringe Skirt

The only thing better would to have my version of this outfit in doll form.

New Dress A Day - DIY - 90s Denim Skirt - Never Nude - Tobias Funke, Never Nude Doll

Yay for a new skirt and yay for new Arrested Development shows!  I just might watch them all before the weekend is over...

Happy Sunday, friends!
