Oscar Week: Amour

Oscar Week continues!!! New Dress A Day - DIY - Oscar Week - Amour - Upcycle

So today's film is Amour.  I have yet to see this French film (I've heard fantastic things), however I'm going with the name - Amour - literally for this tie in!

Now instead of a remake today, I'm doing a little "Oscar Gift Bag" giveaway containing all LOVE/French themed goodies.  This is one I'd be obsessed with winning.  Wanna see??

The goodies up for grabs are...

1. Roger & Gallet Eau de Cologne in the scent Bouquet Imperial.  Ooh la la!!

2. Knock Knock Secret Admirer Memo pad.  Getting one of these would be dreamy!

3. Turquoise heart/sterling silver necklace.  Dainty & lovely!

To enter, leave a comment below of what your favorite movie of the year was.  Pretend you have an Oscar to give - what did you think was simply fantastic??  A winner will randomly get picked on Oscar Sunday, 2/24, after all the statues are handed out! (...along with the winner of the last giveaway!)  Now I don't know if I can narrow down a favorite, but I just saw The Impossible last week (was really incredible) and I looked like this post-movie...

I instagrammed the photo right after, but figured my Claire Danes cry face was something to be shared with all of you guys.  So is this clip.

New Oscar movie tomorrow!

Oscar Week: Argo

Oscar Week is in full effect! (Just an update for those who missed yesterday because of President's Day celebrating - perhaps you saw Lincoln?? - this week is going to be all about the nominated movies, with each day having a different Oscar movie-inspired-outfit.)

Today’s feature is Ben Affleck’s Argo!

I found something super 70s-esque to work for the film.

Yep, this one is a doozy!

I didn't zip the dress up all the way so you could see all the material that made up the neck!  This dress is PERFECT for winter!!

I really loved the skirt - the pleats, the pockets, and the length - but the brown ribbed top was way less desirable.  The dress would have been fine as is for movie purposes, but I wanted to make something that I'd actually wear.

I decided to remove the sleeves.  I seam ripped...

I pinned...

...then stitched new armholes.

I had other intentions - to add mini red bows in a line down the front, mostly...

...but when I had them pinned in place, I just didn't like.

I opted to keep it simple and sweet and instead took a red sash, put it through the belt loops at the waist right above the pockets, and tied a bow in front.  I'm actually super jazzed with how it turned out.

Like, really jazzed.  I can't wait to rewear this piece!

I had a pair of my mom's vintage shades that really made this piece feel like something straight out of Argo.

I mean could I be sitting in this room too??

My favorite thrifted jacket paired perfectly with the ensemble.  Red leather, big collar, big gold buttons...I got it for a steal!! (I won't even say how much it was because it's that insane.)

The accessories were the most fun to pair - I actually hadn't worn the red sash in a very long time!!  It was like it was brand new because I totally forgot that I even owned it!  (Love when that happens!)

I won't give away any spoilers this week, but my fave line from the movie...yep, it's Alan Arkin saying "Argo F Yourself".  Who else is in cahoots??   This could be my new fave curse word (if James Lipton were to ask...), but only if I pretend I'm Alan Arkin when I'm saying it.

A new Oscar nominated movie tomorrow!!

Oscar Week: Django Unchained

It's OSCAR Week friends!!  This is one of my most favorite times of the year...  I catch up on all the Oscar nominated movies, get together with friends to watch the awards, and then comment on EVERYTHING!  The clothes, the speeches, the winners..

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Skirt - Django Unchained

It's one of my yearly traditions that I always look so forward to.

In the spirit of Oscar, this week is going to be all about the nominated movies, with each day being a different Oscar movie-inspired-outfit.  Today's feature is Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained!

Yep, I found something with chains!

The print on the skirt was amazing...

I wish that necklace was real and in my possession.  Girl can dream...

The skirt was a bit too big...

...but an easy tweak is ahead!

It reminded me of a scarf, and I was thinking of cutting the fabric and turning it into something I could wear on my head, however I wanted to highlight the fabric more.  I brought in the sides of the skirt just a few inches and placed pins down.

The elastic waist was pinned and then I stitched it all in place.

Instead of making it a more fitted skirt, I brought it up and turned it into a top!  We had a freakishly warm weekend (75-80 degrees) so I just had to take advantage.  I wore a skinny brown belt to cinch the waist, however wearing it flowy would have been just fine in my book too!  I paired my top with my red boots, skinny jeans, and my vintage chain!

Chains on my shirt, chains 'round my neck!!

I did toss on a cropped jacket when the sun set...
