Friday Remake

I'm a total cardigan girl.  I love pairing them with my outfits for a little color pop as well as a little pop of warmth.  You know, the Southern California weather might not get too frigid that often, however the nights cool down like the Dickens and a cardi is a girl's best friend. (My BFF, fo sho!  My car is like a cardigan factory)

I have a handful of ones with patterns and a bunch of just solid colors, so I thought I'd take one of those solid ones and zhuzh it up a bit!

Here's what it looked like before...

It didn't seem to get much love, so I thought a little face lift would do the trick.  Instead of needles and anesthesia, we're going the glue and gems route.

Mmm, gems!

I took my flat-backed gems that I procured at one of those hole in the wall craft spots in downtown LA and began to test some patterns.

Anytime I'm using rhinestones, I always test out locations before actually affixing.  It's like going to a party...you always make the rounds and take some laps to check out the crowd before settling on a location.  (Am I right, girls?)

I came up with this fun triangle motif, and made a little faux collar at the neck...

...and continued the triangles in-between each button.

All my gems got placed and then I grabbed my Aleene's Glitter & Gem glue...

...and started tacking down!

I let my piece dry overnight and then had a new (and improved) cardi ready for the town!

I paired this piece with a vintage tie neck blouse, leather braided belt, and a fab pair of red clip-on earrings that I scored at the flea market!

To bring out the colors in the blouse, I grabbed my Trina Turk clutch and Michael Antonio platform heels.

Those heels are no joke!  I got them at a sample sale in December because A, I felt like I needed a pair of crazy platforms, and B, who doesn't need a hot pair of red shoes??

I just love how the gems glisten in the light.  It's the perfect amount of glam to add to any outfit.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Upcycled Sweater

This is something totally work appropriate and would also look darling over a dress.

This shot just happened to catch me trying to punch out the camera from afar with my clutch.  Yep, pretending to be Mike Tyson, sans eye tat.

Cardigan, BP (from my closet) // Blouse, Vintage // Jeans, Levis (they were $23!) // Clutch, Trina Turk // Earrings, vintage // Sunnies, Urban Outfitters // Heels, Michael Antonio // Belt, Vintage

And speaking of TKO, don't mess with me (or my family/friends/blog readers/acquaintances) or I will cut you with my fierce shoes.  Just giving you an FYI.  I will take you down with these heels, so step back.

(Little side note, they almost took me out because of their weight, but now I'm feeling way more confident after our little talk.  Yeah, we had a little talk and I asked them to be nice.  They didn't say anything back, however I took that as a silent, "fine.")

Happy Friday, friends!

DIY Accessories Continued!

Yesterday I showed you the before shots and the process for two pieces that I featured on Marie Osmond's show (click for refresher HERE), and today I show you the after shots! But first...here's the video to check out!

I couldn't resist this screen capture...

New Dress A Day - DIY - Marie Osmond Show

All five after shots below!

My upcycled brown wristlet turned into this glam pouch!!  With the use of some Martha Stewart Paint, Darice rhinestones, E6000 glue, and Scotch Blue Tape, I gave it a chic re-do!!

My thrifted magenta gloves turned into a cute, luxe pair with the simple addition of faux fur trim!  I went to my local craft store and got about a 1/2 yard of trim and put it around the edges of both gloves.  You can stitch/fabric glue/velcro...whatever is easiest!

I love this purse and the only thing that was done was adding fabric around the old clutch with a glue gun.  (Click HERE for the post refresher with all the steps)

New Dress A Day - Upcycled Leather Clutch - Fabric DIY

This necklace was SO easy.  All I did was add an appliqué with a big safety pin to the chain!  Easy peasy.  I took an appliqué from an old, pilly sweater that shrunk and created a fab statement necklace!

I loved this belt just because I had so much fun making it.  The beauty of a piece like this is that you can add ribbon, buttons, sequins, patches, rhinestones, etc. to the face of it to make it all your own.  I love this color palette, but have fun matching your fabric to really bring out the colors in the outfit you're going to pair it with.  I have a royal blue dress coming up that I can't wait to wear this with.

New Dress A Day - Upcycled Elastic Belt - DIY Rosettes

The final accessory were these lovely pair of gloves that I added buttons and chain to!  I posted this the day we shot the episode (click for a refresher HERE!) and Marie liked them so much she took them home with her.

Such a fun day to get creative - new remake tomorrow!!

DIY Accessories Featured on Marie Osmond Show!

Today's remakes are actually two accessories that I made for Marie Osmond's TV show that airs today!!  We did a segment using thrifted and "from your closet but not using anymore" pieces to give some new life to! New Dress A Day - Marie Osmond Promo - Accessories DIY

Tune in at 12 noon/11C on the Hallmark Channel to check it out!  Two of my remakes are below...

Project #1 - WRISTLET

It's just a basic, brown, leather wristlet I scored at Goodwill for less than two bucks.  It's fine, but there's SO much more we can do!

Project #2 - BELT

This belt is on its last legs...the elastic is still in good condish, but the leathery bows are falling apart!!

With the before shots above, check out the steps to make these brand, spankin' new!!

For the wristlet, I went to my fail-safe Scotch Blue painters tape...

...and figured out the design I wanted to make, because the open areas are going to be painted!  (This is actually awesome because you can really make any kind of cool designs you'd like.  I'm going for more of a color blocking effect, but evenly placed stripes/stars/triangles would look fantastic!

I grabbed some Martha Stewart Paint and got cracking.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Accessory - Wristlet

I started off choosing a matte aqua and some glitter options...

...however after drying and peeling off the paint...

...I painted over the navy glitter with a different shade.  I also added a little somethin' somethin' to the clutch...but you'll see that on the show!

For the belt, I started off by cutting off these attached bows that were pretty much disintegrating.  See how worn out it is??

With my bows cut off, I'm now left with a basic black, elastic belt...

...which I'm going to add some organza ribbon to, that I twisted into little rosettes.

Tune into Marie's show today to get a sneak peek of how both of these turned out!  The show clip and final after pictures will be posted tomorrow if you're unable to catch it though.  Can't wait to hear what you think!

Also, for Young & the Restless and Amazing Race fans, Daniel Goddard (Cane) and the Chippendale's teammates (Jaymes & James) are also on the show, if you're looking for a bit testosterone on top of my DIYs :)
