Sick Day :(

Greetings from the couch, friends!  So my sneezing and sniffles have turned into a full blown cold.  The sneezing stopped today but the sniffles and aches continued.  I'm not feeling terrible, but I'm not feeling awesome either :) I didn't leave the house today, however my family got to see The Hobbit.  I mean, check me out...

New Dress A Day - DIY - Sick Day

I've been drinking lots of tea, had chicken noodle soup, and have been pumping myself full of vitamins.  Hoping after a good night's sleep, I'll be back in action.  Fingers crossed.

Do you guys have any great home remedies to share?  I'll take 'em!

New post tomorrow though...have some holiday ornaments to complete and share!!

Holiday Week: Swap Party Purse

I love me some iridescent sequined purses.  From vintage ones... New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Beaded Clutch

...to ones from Zara...

...I'm a fan.  So, when I snagged this purse from a swap party a few months back...

...I knew exactly what I was going to do with it!!  The fact that there were tons of indentations and little scuff marks all along the top of it...

...made it an even easier choice to cover the bag in sequins.  Woo hoo, it's iridescent times tonight friends!!

I chose my supplies carefully and went with an assortment of seeks...shortened version of sequins, obviously :) I chose shiny ivory, lavender, silver, and some turquoise, however the turquoise* ended up on the cutting room floor.  *Spoiler Alert.

I warmed up my GG (Glue Gun can now own the abbrev, since Gossip Girl is over...) and started to dab hot glue, then apply the pretty sequins.

I began this piece as a little demo at my San Francisco signing...

...and then finished it up at home!  I brought my low heat GG which made it a bit difficult, not to mention the outlet was a little further away, but I did get started in SF!

It took lots of time placing those sequins down - for the bigger sequins, I dabbed the backs of them with glue and then placed and for the smaller sequins, I put glue down on the purse and placed them on top.  I kind of got it down to a little science!

Once the sequins were down and the glue dried, I sprayed a little bit of Krylon's Finishing Spray to seal the sequins in place.  Who's got a new iridescent purse now??

You'll see me toting this around on an upcoming post as the sneezes and sniffles I've come down with - hopefully both allergy related - are keeping me from changing out of my fleece-lined leggings, Minnetonka slippers, and chenille blanket that's wrapped around me, to shoot a picture with it in my hands.

Holiday Week: Gold Lamé Remake

Behold, my first thrifted purchase in Charlotte!!  This FAH-bulous gold jacket... New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Jacket

The fun shirt underneath isn't attached to the jacket, FYI :)

Shoulder pads, a black satin panel keeping each side together, and did I mention shoulder pads??

I got crackin' immediately on this piece!!  I began by removing that black panel that kept each side together.  With a seam ripper, I started to unhinge the panel.

I was almost there!  I had to be super careful because the panel, on one side, was stitched to the gold lamé and I didn't want any holes in the metallic fabric.

With the panel gone...

...I took to the sleeves!

With more careful seam ripping, I got both of those arms off.

I pinned down the raw edges around the sleeves...

...and then got to stitching!  I sewed the armholes as well as the patch of metallic fabric that was unstitched when the panel came off.

Using a rhinestone brooch to clasp the waist and wearing a camisole underneath (unforch my packed pickings were slim, however I thought the grey worked out well to match the pearlized brooch), my new jacket-turned-vest/shirt was complete!!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Upcycled Vest

I love how chic it is!!  This is something that would pair awesomely well over a strapless cocktail dress, some jeans, a pencil skirt...the options are really endless.  (We'll see this styled another way soon!)

It's fitting for the holidays, because of the metallic nature, however it's also going to rock the rest of the year!!
