$1 Remake: Pretty in Pink

Back to the remakes today!! This pink dress was one that I put together for October to celebrate breast cancer awareness month, and even though it's November, we're still going to wear it to show support!

Headless Marisa models the before...

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Pink Before

My favorite part of the piece...the velcro!!  There were these thick, strips of velcro holding a part of the dress together!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Velcro!!!

Will the velcro stay???

So, here was the piece from the front - there was a whole panel being kept in place with velcro.

I removed this panel, folded each side of the V under, and pinned it in place.  This is actually going to become my new back of the piece in a few steps.

Now, the panel with the velcro was removed, however the velcro will still come in handy to keep the new back together.

I took both pieces and stitched them down to the V - one piece on the underside of the fabric and the other piece in the corresponding spot on the top of the fabric.

I loved the little peplum at the waist, so I cut the dress shorter to really emphasize!!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - Trimmy, trim, trim

With the piece newly shortened, it was time to work on the new front of the piece.  What really solidified this back to front move, was that there were already seams at the bust that would totally work for making it fit!  There was also a hole!!

Easy hole fix??  Trim a line down the center...

I love how this piece works with the back panel removed in the back.  Just a little dip and it feel super chic!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Dress - New Back!

My top even matched the bus benches all across the city!  I've been obsessed with the florals and have been wanting to find just the right piece to wear as I sat on one.  Today was the day!!

I'm loving the red mixed with the pink too!

Red Head Costume Week: Florence Welch - Florence & The Machine

So, my final red head costume finishes today...  I wore this piece over the weekend and I brought it back out Halloween eve (last night) as it was the most comfortable one of the week!  Plus I got to be a little dramatic. New Dress A Day - DIY Halloween - Florence Welch - Valentino

I found the perfect vintage dress (I. Magnin!) with flowy sleeves, lace trim, and in an ivory shade that I thought would be perfect to channel my Florence Welch look.  Wanna see??

First off, the drama got brought-en with this amazing new L'Oreal mascara I just started using.  I'm a mascara-hopper-around-er, and this one made the lashes pop.  Apologies for the iPhone action shot in my bathroom vanity to capture the length/mascara tube!!

All I did was pair my dress along with this little name tag I made...

...and I was ready to go!

I was trying to match my moves to Florence and it's really not too difficult :)

It was a fun night with girlfriends, posing...

...and getting crafty!  We totally DIY'ed LC's gloves!

We shimmied, we sipped...

Florence spun and spun and spun...

So I spun and spun and spun...

...and have Halloween casualties to show for it.  How's about a bruise that looks like I have a zombie foot/ankle??  It's like the makeup department on The Walking Dead did their magic.  I'll save you the photo, because yes there is a photo...I had to take one to make sure it was actually real, and yeah, it's real all right - but, was totally worth it!

Happy November!!  Also it's my rad brother's birthday...Happy Birthday D!! xo

Red Head Costume Week: Chucky - Child's Play

I'm a horror movie addict, so with my new hair, I just couldn't resist a little Child's Play action.  There's nothing better than the all the scary movie marathons that go on all month.  A little Friday the 13th mixed with some Turner Classics for good measure (The Body Snatchers!) makes me a happy camper.  Oh, but obviously not one at Camp Crystal Lake :) New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Chucky!!

It was fun to make a creepier costume today, and all my costume components came from Goodwill!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Halloween Costume

I found a striped shirt with all primary colors which was the key element to getting this outfit complete!  I stitched it up to make it more fitted and then paired it with these guys...

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Overalls!

Hello overalls!  Want to see how the whole costume came together??

Oh, and I needed a knife, er, glow in the dark weapon (per the packaging) to complete the scary look!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Plastic "Weapon"

With my outfit and prop together, I played around with some eyeliner to make scars and used some different shades of red lipstick for blood, before trying to pin/spray/tease my hair to make it Chucky-esque.

My look was complete!
