Remake: Ruffled Floral Dress

If you were missing this goofball below, she's back in FULL FORCE.

Well I do, declare!

Well I do, declare!

But let's talk about this dress, though... I'm LOVING the print hard. I'm loving *most* of the ruffles. (it's a bit overload, yes?) And, I'm loving the thin cotton fabric. It really couldn't be flowier!

I mean, there was a full on DANCE party during this shoot. #notjoking

At first thought, I said "this is going to be a perfect halter dress!" Then when I started to play around with the fabric a bit more I felt the dress would work better going in a different direction.

I took off the sleeves first - during my dance party a few photos back, I realized if I didn't take off the sleeves, they'd rip when that dance party would pick back up again. (Because you know that's totally happening...)

Being left with the below, this is where my mind changed from halter dress. It just didn't look the way I would have liked, so I went another route!

I cut off the entire ruffled panel at the top of the dress.

Fear not, that panel is coming back! I folded over the top of the piece an inch and stitched a new seam in place.

I'm turning this into a strapless dress, so the new seam is getting an elastic upgrade!

Once the elastic was added to the top of the piece, portions of the ruffled panel that was taken off, was added back on top to the front of the dress. There were three layers of ruffles, so I cut back a bit and went with just one.

Eeeeee! What a fun piece!

I had a bridal shower to attend, so I thought this was just the thing to wear!

Because there's a LOT of fabric going on, I put on one of my fave belts (my dad's from high school that I conveniently "borrowed" 10 years ago...) to break it up a bit and to give the dress a little more shape.

Such a flowy piece - I'm obsessed with the rainbow colorings of all the flowers!

Vintage Ruffle Floral Dress Before & After

Welcome to the NEW New Dress A Day!!

Hi friends, we're back!! YAY!!

It's been a while and I couldn't be happier to present the new platform to you all. The majority of 2016 has been spent working on this labor of love and it's finally time to reveal all we've been doing. You have NO idea how anxious I've been, wanting to show you everything we've been prepping and it's finally time!

You can have fun scouring the archives, there's larger imagery now (woo!!), WAY more searchability, and you can even shop the NDAD closet!

Vintage SF 49ers Shirt

When I first started blogging in 2009, I didn't think it would last more than that first year. I got laid off and I had a project to complete to keep the good old spirits up - 365 days / $365 dollars / 365 dresses (and other assorted pieces :) ) And now approaching 8 years later (OMG, saying that out loud is NUTS!!) it was time for a refresh.

The rest of this year will finish out with what you're used to seeing - remakes, copycats, and some other fun vintage finds, but come 2017 there's going to be even more new stuff. We'll dive into that as it gets closer...

Crafty Marisa

I appreciate all the support, emails, comments (the good, the bad, all of them!) and love I've gotten from you and can't wait to keep this creative space going!

Remake: Red Floral Embroidered Shirt

I pretty much LOVE anything embroidered! So when I came across this top, it was love at first sight. My boobs however, weren't as thrilled. See below:

Unfortunately this top didn't fit in the state it was in...

...however I knew right off the bat that this piece would only need one step to make it perfect.

ELASTIC!! I swear, elastic has saved me time and time again. I kind of feel like I owe a LOT to that lovely, stretchy friend of mine!

Elastic!

I removed the old, worn out elastic and replaced it with new elastic, adding a trusty safety pin to guide through the shirt's seam. And that was it!

From too big to just right!

I call this my Guns & Roses top! 🌹

Red Embroidered Shirt - 6

I paired this with jeans, but think that adding a high waisted pencil skirt could be an awesome alternative way to style!

Red Embroidered Shirt - 4

It's so cute!! Such an easy top to wear that feels fun and festive.
