Week 28: Shannon’s NDAD Creation

Sep 18, 2011 | 20 Comments

Hey friends, sorry for the delay in posts as I’ve been traveling!  Vegas last weekend and NY this weekend for another wedding.  Let’s call this Wedding-tember for me :)

Yay for skrockidesign.com and this fabulous 80s wedding pic!

Yay for skrockidesign.com and this fabulous 80s wedding pic!

You’ll see all the dresses this week, and yes, they were both $1.  (Um, I was pretty stoked with the finished product as well for both soirees!)

In the wedding spirit, I found it fitting to feature Shannon’s piece.

“I love your creativity and live vicariously through your amazing social calendar as well!  I just had to tell you how you inspired a recent project for me.  My daughter just got married and it was a glorious DIY, eco-frugal, vintage wedding bonanza held in a local historic home/museum. During the planning and creating phase, we were stumped by what to do about the bride’s bouquet.  We didn’t want fresh flowers since we had so many other responsibilities that day and we wanted it to be “green” (and save us some green ($), but be meaningful and fit the vintage vibe.  So I asked myself–WWMD? (what would Marisa do?)

WWMD?  Shannon, you rule :)   Biggest compliment a gal could ask for!!  Just wait till you hear about this one!!  (I’m putting this in my back pocket for when I eventually get hitched!!)

Week 29: Giveaway Winner & Awesome Neighbor

Sep 8, 2011 | 7 Comments

Hey friends!!  Hope everyone is having a lovely week – it’s sweltering hot in Los Angeles and I’m headed to Las Vegas this weekend (it’s wedding time!!) which won’t be any better, temp-wise.  Alan Thicke knows just what I’m talking about…

(PS, this is why YouTube rules – Crystal Light aerobics fest ’88…I mean, gold.  Sheer gold!!)

While away, I’m going to do some daytime thrifting before a celebration of epic proportions.  Can’t wait to blog all about it!  I’m keeping the details mum at the moment but the where will blow your minds and let’s just say that the dress I’m gonna don will be Elvis-impersonator-worthy! (PS, after reading this, it may come off like I could be getting married. Ha and nope, definitely not me…my gal LG!!)

The winner of the Relish/necklace giveaway was Miss Pratima!!  Thanks for all who entered and another goodie pack will be up for grabs next week!!

Also, during a trip to my storage unit (the location where all the blogged about pieces are boxed and stacked as well as where all the packages you guys send in hang out until I’m ready to work on them) I found out that I have some pretty, pretty, pretty cool neighbors.

Sneaky photog at work!

Sneaky photog at work!

Chig-a, chig-a, chig-a, dance.  Dance.  Dance.  Dance.

Um, I’m a crazy obsessed SYTYCD fan (So You Think You Can Dance, for those who opt not to get sucked into reality competition) and as I was leaving I saw packing slips with the logo and I nearly died.  I didn’t have my phone on me so obviously I went down to my car, grabbed some ‘stuff’ to bring to my storage unit, as well as my phone and tried to take some sneaky, paparazzi shots.  I know, I know…stick to the sewing machine.

Week 31: Lizzie

Time for a little mother-of-the-bride remake!!  Lizzie tossed this my way just like her bouquet on her wedding day!

Week 31: Lizzie - Before

“This was in my grandmother’s closet and had to have been leftover from one of the weddings she attended.  The color is beautiful, but the buttons have come off and it smells like moth balls.  Sorry about that!  I think this could turn into something chic or at least you can use the lace or buttons on something else you create.  Lots of love from Lizzie in PA.”

Time to head to the chapel!!

Week 39: Phyllis

May 9, 2011 | 34 Comments

Happy Mother’s Day!!  To celebrate the day I just couldn’t resist going with a Mother of the Bride ensemble sent to me by Phyllis in Wilmington, NC.

This piece was just yearning for a remake – hello early 90s!!

“Marisa, this dress was one that I found at my neighbor’s garage sale.  There is a hole at the bottom but thought you could do some magic!  It was a dress my neighbor wore to a wedding of one of her son’s and was never going to be used again.  I mentioned what I was going to do with it and she’s excited to have you give it a second life!”

Week 39: Phyllis - Before

Beaded collar, dangling beaded applique and a cape of sorts in ivory?!  Hmm, let’s see how much of that is left by the end of this.
