Week 9: Stacey

Feb 20, 2012 | 20 Comments

I absolutely loved this piece when I opened up the package sent by Stacey.  I loved the beaded applique but had not a clue what I was going to do with it to make it work.

“Marisa – this dress  comes to you via my grandmother who had this in her collection of  ‘pieces worn to family weddings’ part of her closet.  Not sure who’s wedding this was worn to, but it was worn somewhere.  Since it’s taking up space in her closet and she was sorting through things to get rid of, I asked if I could send it your way and she said  that she hopes you make something wonderful out of it!  Have fun!!  Lots of love, Stacey & Nana”

I’m feeling pressured to make something that stands up to Nana’s liking so fingers crossed it works out :)

Week 14: Katie

“Here’s something that I think you can have some fun with!  White, beaded, silk, long…it’s fine now, but I want you to make it fantastic!  This came from my mom’s bag of hand-me-downs that I just don’t have the stamina to try and fix.  I will it to you…  Thanks for all the inspiration you give each day.  I am always amazed at what you do and I just can’t wait until your book comes out!  Affectionately yours, Katie”

Alrighty!  Today’s dress from Katie (shout out to TN!) was one that I thought could work as a reserved wedding dress, one to use when striking those vows at City Hall, kinda like when Carrie and Big did it for reals.  (Yeah, that was a Sex and the City movie reference that I’m surprised I actually remembered enough to call out)

The dress was silk with these gorgeous pearly beads stitched down on top of a lace bib and the silky material had pretty feathers stitched on it, however it was so hard to see being white.

Pearly Whites!

Pearly Whites!

I’m not headed to City Hall any time soon, unless I get called into jury duty, so this needs a small tweak!!  I knew that this was a job for RIT dye to knock out of the park!!

Week 27: NY Day 1

Sep 28, 2011 | 37 Comments

I mentioned that it’s been ‘Wedding-tember’ in my world and today’s post documents the other wedding that was on my agenda this month.  From Vegas to NY, it’s been a bi-coastal couple of weeks!

For a ‘black tie optional’ event back home in NY, I thought that I just had to rock another dress that I found for a buck.  I was on a roll and couldn’t stop!  This is turning into my thing now…invite me to a wedding and I’ll come wearing something I snagged for four quarters.  I bought a pretzel on the street for $2.25, so yeah, I think I did good.

The piece we’re going to be working with…

Blerg!!  Yeah, time to transition this into something that’s vow-sharing appropriate for 2011.

Week 28 Cont’d: Vegas Wedding!

Sep 22, 2011 | 55 Comments

Prepare for a post of epic proportions to finish out the trip to Las Vegas.  It’s going to be like The Hangover – full on documentation of the past 24 hours of events with photographic evidence.  No beds ended up on the roof though and Mike Tyson was only seen by way of celebrity impersonator.  (Seriously.)

Week 28: Shannon’s NDAD Creation

Sep 18, 2011 | 20 Comments

Hey friends, sorry for the delay in posts as I’ve been traveling!  Vegas last weekend and NY this weekend for another wedding.  Let’s call this Wedding-tember for me :)

Yay for skrockidesign.com and this fabulous 80s wedding pic!

Yay for skrockidesign.com and this fabulous 80s wedding pic!

You’ll see all the dresses this week, and yes, they were both $1.  (Um, I was pretty stoked with the finished product as well for both soirees!)

In the wedding spirit, I found it fitting to feature Shannon’s piece.

“I love your creativity and live vicariously through your amazing social calendar as well!  I just had to tell you how you inspired a recent project for me.  My daughter just got married and it was a glorious DIY, eco-frugal, vintage wedding bonanza held in a local historic home/museum. During the planning and creating phase, we were stumped by what to do about the bride’s bouquet.  We didn’t want fresh flowers since we had so many other responsibilities that day and we wanted it to be “green” (and save us some green ($), but be meaningful and fit the vintage vibe.  So I asked myself–WWMD? (what would Marisa do?)

WWMD?  Shannon, you rule :)   Biggest compliment a gal could ask for!!  Just wait till you hear about this one!!  (I’m putting this in my back pocket for when I eventually get hitched!!)
