156 Days to Go: Wednesday Giveaway!

May 17, 2012 | No Comments

I’ve been home working like a busy bee with book edits but took a quick jaunt to downtown LA to pick up a few supplies…there are some fun projects on the horizon and I was missing a few key ingredients!  I parked on one of those rooftop structures and made my way to the elevator.  This is what I saw when it opened.

New Dress A Day - Sketchy Elevator

Hi sketchy elevator!

I did a double take and questioned getting on it because I thought it was going to kidnap me, but then a mother and daughter got on too.  I figured if the elevator kidnaps me, it’ll kidnap all of us.  We luckily survived the one story ride.  And stairs…nowhere to be found.

I was in bead, bauble, and button heaven!!

New Dress A Day - Racks of buttons!

Whole lotta buttons going on!

I grabbed some thread (colors I had run out of and needed), replacement zippers, elastic, and fabric!

Garment District!

Garment District!

I needed to grab more fabric for curtains (I’m finally curtain-ing my apartment!!) and totally scored at Michael Levine.  (I went to their pay-by-the-pound area as well and found a few keepers!)

My fabric stash!

A quick and successful trip was had before it was back to the books…literally.

I bought some of those buttons above as well as fun floral stud earrings and a sewing kit to give away today.

New Dress A Day - Button Giveaway

Goodies!

Because there were so many fun earring colors, I just couldn’t go with that gold pair alone.  I snagged a few more summery options as well to make this a goodie day where eight people will win (1 earring/button/kit winner, 7 stud winners).  I’m a sucker for stud earrings and couldn’t resist.  My green tomato pin cushion made the perfect grassy looking display!

New Dress A Day - Floral Earrings

An earring garden!

To win, leave a comment below of your #1 & #2 fave summery color options – magenta, mauve, gold, copper, turquoise, and mint are what you’ve got!  I want you to hopefully get your choice if you end up one of the multiple, random, lucky winners!  Winners will be chosen on Monday, 5/21!

161 Days to Go: Thursday Giveaway!!

May 11, 2012 | 63 Comments

If I could title today, it would be Marisa and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

INT: DENTIST’S OFFICE — DAY

Marisa is laying down on the dentist’s chair for her basic cleaning.  There is a dental hygienist looking through Marisa’s file.

HYGIENIST: (stretching)

I’m sore from starting up kickboxing again.  Oh, and the basic clean you scheduled is now going be a deep clean because you waited a year in-between visits.  Have you heard of ‘The Cavinator?” Get ready because you’re going to get a facial from all the splattering water!

Marisa trembles with fear and you can tell her mind is racing.

MARISA:

Gulp.  I hate facials.

This photo I’m sharing is one of the most unattractive shots I’ve ever seen of myself (sneaky iPhone photo in-between quadrant scaling, laying down on the dentist’s chair, while the really nice, in post-workout mode, hygienist was refilling “the cavinator”.  Yes, “the cavinator” exists – it wasn’t just for my faux movie scene.  I had to share because A, we’re close pals and B, I hope none of you have to experience the toothal pain I felt today.

New Dress A Day at the Dentist

Not a fun chair to be sitting in.

I tend to floss less regularly than I should.  I tend to fall asleep on my couch blogging and then drag myself to my bed at 3am and skip flossing for a brushing when that happens.  After today, that will never be an excuse.  I’m ordering a Waterpik and am going to be on a flossing rampage.  Queen of floss?  That has a ring to it!

Because today hurt my face and I’ve only had liquids and the toppings from a frozen pizza, I’m going to do a giveaway!!  I figured this would make others happier than I am at this moment – and for the next 24 hours per my hygienist – offering up a final batch of fabric samples, some Velcro, and a little travel-friendly sewing kit!!

Day 161 Giveaway!!

Let’s just say that today’s events have given me a new lease on being appointment diligent.  Planning future visits – already in the books because I’m not allowing my teeth to play another mean joke on me.  Do you guys have one of these?  Share with me a mean joke/frustrating moment/your Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in the comments below to win the goodies. A random winner will be chosen next week.  (Congrats to Blair Burnette for winning last week’s goodies!)

Back on the saddle sewing machine tomorrow and lesson of the day…

“FLOSS YO GUMS”.

So, I’m in crazy need for supply storage!  I’ve been compiling ribbons, paints, excess fabric, shoulder pads, and other assorted goodies over these past few months into bags and am finally sorting by item!  It’s about time, y’all!  I have my buttons, beads, thread, glue gun/glue sticks, and dyes tidy but the rest of my supplies are a hot mess.

To continue getting organized, I decided to take some old shoeboxes that I was going to recycle and make them my new storage bins.  They were an assorted bunch of colors, so I decided to get Krylon paint happy and spray them all a uniform shade of pink!!

Shoebox Tagging!

I totally got into it…just call me Banksy Jr.

Coat 1 Complete!

They took up most of my workspace as they dried, so I had to pass on the sewing machine today.  I can’t wait to label and get them filled with my stash o’crafts!  Photos will come as soon as they’re ready!

Speaking of a stash, I’m giving away some amazingly fun crafty samples that were provided by awesome reader DJ (she’s a sales rep who’s sharing lots of fun goodies with us!)  There are two books (one with silk projects and a felting how-to), a batch of fabric samples, a fabric yo-yo maker, a flexi-needle threader, and a travel sized Best Press (no-starch alternative) spray.  Fun assorted items to really get your craft on!

Giveaway Goodies!!

To enter, leave a comment below with a good storage/organizational idea/plan/thought and a winner will randomly be picked this Friday (4/27).  On top of my crafting and sewing supplies I’m finally getting my apartment organized.  My amazing cousin MP in Ft. Worth had an awesome wine rack that was attached to the wall – I need that stat to clear up floor space with my bottles!

Week 4: Scarf Winners!

Apr 4, 2012 | 2 Comments

New post is coming tonight, but I wanted to release the winners from the scarf giveaway!  I loved reading what everyone is looking forward to this spring!

Scarves!

Scarves!

Texas weather has been a little nutty (safe thoughts going out to all my Texans!) but I’m home safe and sound!  Flight delays=post delays, so je m’excuse!

Congrats to the winners (Julia S., Carol, Amanda Davis, Ashley Byrd, & Betty) I have a bunch of giveaways coming up this month, so stay tuned for more!

Week 21: Elise

Dec 2, 2011 | 300 Comments

Happy December friends!!

To ring in this month of giving and to thank you all for your patience with me and my more limited posts as of late while I’ve been manuscripting, I’m doing a 31 days of December, aka NEW DRESS A GIVEAWAY, giving away something awesome each day this month!!  It’s like “Oprah’s Favorite Things” up in this piece!

At the end of every December post will be the prize o’the day and you’ll have until the end of the day to leave a comment and sign up – the winner will be randomly chosen and listed on the next day’s post.  Got it?  Good!  There’s going to be an awesome mix of  things I love (some handmade, some not, some big, some small, some smelly and delicious, some watchable, some readable, you get the drill…) that a lucky recipient will be receiving.  Get excited because I love giving presents :)

To today’s piece!  Miss Elise sent me this dress…

Hi Marisa, I wanted to send you something from my closet but, good for me and bad for you, I’ve gotten rid of most of my outdated pieces.  I am borderline OCD, so you can imagine what my closet looks like.  Anyway, instead of pulling from my wardrobe I pulled from the wardrobe of Goodwill and out came this dress that looked like something Julia Roberts would have worn in Pretty Woman during her shopping spree.  I hope you have fun with it!!  I’m a fan of black and pink, so I think you will be able to make something with it.

Week 21: Elise - Before

Week 21: Elise - Before

When I saw this dress I knew that it would be perfect for the night I had planned.  I’m going to see The Muppets and this is going to be my Miss Piggy look.  It’s pink, so it’ll be perfect.

Miss Piggy!

“There is the satisfaction of providing your public with a vision of true beautology, true sytlisity, – how can I put it – true glamorositude.”  You tell em, Miss P!!
