Time for a little mother-of-the-bride remake!!  Lizzie tossed this my way just like her bouquet on her wedding day!

Week 31: Lizzie - Before

“This was in my grandmother’s closet and had to have been leftover from one of the weddings she attended.  The color is beautiful, but the buttons have come off and it smells like moth balls.  Sorry about that!  I think this could turn into something chic or at least you can use the lace or buttons on something else you create.  Lots of love from Lizzie in PA.”

Time to head to the chapel!!

Because I had been told that today was going to bring a little more rain, I wanted something warm and cozy.  Just looking at this you wouldn’t perhaps think it right away, but friends…think very soft flannel!!  Just what I want to snuggle up with on the couch while watching football :)

Little side note…me and flannel sheets?  Two peas in a pod!

Day 33. 332 days and $328 left to go.

I had an extremely important dinner on my agenda for this evening that clearly was going to require an excellent ensemble. Nothing less for a night out with the BFF, right?

Day 33 - Before

Day 33 - Before

This dress was an all in all mess when I came across it in a pile of vintage toss aways. The color was eh, the length was eh, the collar was eh, but the best part was the shimmery thread that made vertical lines throughout the piece. Shockingly, that was the best (and only) part of the dress that I liked. Clearly it was time to get crackin!

I decided to cut it shorter and make it more of a tunic. That solved the length issue, but there was still work to be done. I couldn’t really change the color, however I could change the way it fit and that I did! Because I was keeping the color intact, I grabbed my fave vintage 60s chestnut belt along with my brown Oxford’s to make the brownish color scheme work. Chcck it out…

Day 33 - After

After some delish food – burrata, a full-bodied Cab, some ridiculous mushroom gnocchi and some bread pudding, on top of a convo that was one for the history books, me and my LB grabbed s’more cocktails with some friends down the street. Said friend included this pal…

…who wasn’t much of a talker. He left that to me and LB – we talked so much at our belated bday dinner that we were the last people standing, or sitting rather, in the restaurant. I received the BGE (best gift ever) – a DVD full of Swans Crossing episodes, which for most wouldn’t ring any sort of bell, but to us (and the other 14 people across the country who were obsessed) was literally like pennies falling from heaven. It’s the simple things that make this girl smile. Thanks LB – I’m gonna be smiling for a long time!!! xoxo

Now when I found this puppy, it looked like it could have been an figure skating ensemble in a past life. Clearly way longer than any Olympic regulated costume I’ve ever seen and it was without a speck of flare – I mean, what’s a costume without feathers, sequins, brightly colored lighting bolts and flames? I envisioned Dorothy Hamill, a pair of skates, and a bowl hair cut and wanted to get as far away from that picture as possible.

Day 32 - Before

Day 32 - Before

What sold me on this piece wasn’t the unflattering center seam that ran all the way down the front of the dress from the top to the bottom, it was the amazing buttons and ruching on the back of the neck. That in itself was worth the $1 – I knew that I could always turn that into some fun accessory if the rest of the piece didn’t work, but nah…I had faith in myself that something dope would prevail.

Day 32 - Neck & Button Detail

I pondered a bit over which direction to take this, and in the end I decided to chop it all off! Because the center seam was so unflattering, any sort of dress (mini or knee-length) would have still looked just as heinous. I scratched the dress idea and went solely with the turtleneck. I loved the final product and added one of my fave ebay vintage gold tassel necklaces to accompany. I guess you could say that was my couples partner this evening.

Day 32 - After

I couldn’t wait to take the newly completely piece out for a double axel or triple lutz (ie. Blue Moon’s during the happiest of hours with SZ). The fans in the stands (ie. the men sitting at the bar watching Wisconsin beat the Hurricanes) gave me 10s (ie. “I like the way that looks”) so I left very happy with my gold medal status (ie. smiles and nods). The Olympics are right around the corner and clearly I’m getting excited.
