Week 5: Happy Hunger Games!

Mar 23, 2012 | 16 Comments

So, I’m a newly obsessed Hunger Games-ian.  Finished the book while delayed in the airport terminal earlier this week and now can’t wait to see the big screen version.  If you had asked me a few weeks ago my thoughts on all the hoopla, I would have said no big deal.  Now you ask me that same question…I say I already bought my movie tix for this weekend.

It's here!

It's here!

Fabulous reader Janet submitted some ridiculously amazing Hunger Games costumes that she made to tie into a fun school fashion show with her students and I just had to share on the eve of the movie event!  I wish Janet was my teacher when I was in school!

Week 15: Marion

Jan 7, 2012 | 16 Comments

It’s a red kind of day for me, going with this dress that got mailed to me from Marion a few months back.

“Marisa!!!!  I’ve been reading your blog since seeing you on Nate Berkus and I just LOVE what you do!!  I’ve been trying to find something to send to you for a while and then found this at the community thrift store in my town.  You can’t ever beat red, so I figured this should work well in your sewing.  It’s very flowy and I can’t wait to see how you “make it work”!  xoxo Mar”

Week 15: Marion - Before

It sure was flowy and had this drapey cover up, attached, on the top part of the dress.  There’s a button up top that I unbuttoned just to see the wingspan :)   Hmm, what to remove and what to keep intact, that is the question!

Week 25: Halloween Costume!

Oct 28, 2011 | 16 Comments

This year, I had some early Halloween plans – a taping of Ellen DeGeneres’s Halloween episode!  These were last minute tickets, so a last minute costume had to be procured.  Per the ticket description, a pair of cat ears was not going to cut it.

Ellen!

Ellen!

I began to think and started to jot down some ideas and then it came to me.  I’m pretty excited about this idea… something totally fun, but most importantly easy!!

First part of the costume – a chef’s coat and hat.

Chefs Coat!!

Chefs Coat!! Got it at Braun Linen

I ran to a local restaurant supply store and got jacket on clearance for $5 and a chef’s hat for $5 as well.  If I still worked at that restaurant I worked at years ago…I would have had to borrow!

Next part of the costume…

Swedish Fish!!

Swedish Fish!!

Get it??  I’m a crazy Muppets fan too, so this costume is gonna rock. Borg, borg, borg…here I come!!

Week 25: Lucia’s NDAD Creation

Oct 23, 2011 | 28 Comments

Today’s remake is from Lucia in Arkansas!

“Here is probably my favorite project I’ve done in the past few months.  I found an amazing zippered house coat, satin with this great leopard print.  There is a cherry blossom design over the leopard print, it really is pretty.
