Red Head Costume Week: Daphne – Scooby Doo
Costume week continues and today’s piece is inspired by one of my FAVORITE cartoons… Scooby Doo!
With the newly dyed tresses, I’m heading down the Daphne Blake (who knew she had a last name??) route! A few of the key ingredients to toss into this look are below…
I began with this purple dress that Stacey B. sent my way!! She said…
Marisa – Wow! You are one amazing lady. I am so proud of you and excited for your book to be done. You have brought so much inspiration, fun, and fashion know how to so many, especially me. Thank you for being a light in my life. This dress is a result of thrifting, and I enjoy the collar and color, but is too small for me. It would look great on you especially with some Marisa tweaks to bring it current

I love that this piece was just the right color for costuming today – time to make it ready for animation!!
16 Days to Go: Laura’s NDAD Creation
Today’s remake comes just about six hours away from me in Arizona! Laura likes to remake things while watching movies which is totally how I like to roll too! (I’ve been on a Friends rerun kick as of late…)
Hi Marisa!
First of all, I LOOOOVE your blog! Here’s the story behind my creation: My Mom has been ruthlessly cleaning out closets in my childhood home, and she came across a box of old costumes from Halloween, plays, church events, etc… I went through the box with your inspirational website in mind, and found this piece of potential! My mom whipped up this dress for 11 year-old me to wear for the annual Historic Home Show Tour my church had one year. Right away I loved the fabric and the neckline, but knew I could never get away with wearing the whole dress!
Let the redo begin!!
18 Days to Go: Maggie’s Donation
I received this dress a little while back and have finally taken the project on. I didn’t want to disappoint Maggie. Listen to her love of the piece…
I bought this dress two years ago to wear to Shrek on Broadway. The dress never looked great, but did I LOVE the fabric! I’ve since lost 20 pounds and revisited my closet…only to find this dress. I love, love, love your website and fashion sense – please use this awesome fabric anyway you see fit. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! MEK
I love me some pinstripes, but the dress was a bit off on me…
I have just the idea to keep this piece going, all while pulling in one trend that joined us last season and that hasn’t gone anywhere yet. Peplum!
33 Days to Go: Brianna’s NDAD Creation
I think Los Angeles just hit the hottest temperatures of the summer, this 15th day of September! I’m wearing a bikini top around my house just to stay cool. The fact that Brianna mentioned winter in her piece description sold me. Check out what she did!
Hi Marisa!
I’ve been back at the sewing machine in this lovely weather we’ve been having in MN. I got this dress online for a couple dollars and it looked so cute on the mannequin in the picture. I opened it, and it was not quite what I had hoped…
I loved the print though – it was the whole reason I got the dress – and decided to try to recreate what I thought I saw when I bought it.
I have the same grief with online shopping – I always see things I LOVE and then when they get shipped to me, they either don’t fit, have a different feel than what I was expecting, or just less cute than what was on the mannequin/model. Let’s see how Brianna turns this around!
45 Days to Go: Barbara’s Donation
I’ve had this amazing piece for close to a year – Barbara sent this to me last October and now it’s making a debut! I have a wedding to attend for some dear friends and knew I could make this piece work!
Here is the story….many, many years ago, I was given this ‘vintage’ unfinished sequined dress. I was supposed to fix it up, breathe life back into it, and make it something fantastic, but that never happened. Skip forward to today, I am cleaning my closets and trunks and there it is, as sparkly as ever in my cedar chest, but sad and unwearable. I hope you can rock it and make it into something really fun to wear! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with. This is a VERY special piece to me and hard to part with but it will just sit there forever, otherwise. I have had it for at least 25 yrs and hope it will make your list!
I loved the sequins, but there was a bit of discoloration and there was no zipper!!
There’s lots of work to complete on this and I can’t wait to get started. I grabbed some tools…
…and got started!!
