Red Head Costume Week: Angela Chase – My So-Called Life
One of my all time favorite shows was My So-Called Life. When it started airing late summer of 1994, I was like “this show was written for me.” I wanted to be Claire Danes, with her dyed auburn hair and massive crush on Jordan Catalano. (Nothing’s really changed because I want to be Claire Danes now on Homeland, just without the electroshock treatments!)
Now with my hair in the red direction, I’m adding this to my costume list! Sure, I’m not a 15-year-old high schooler, but you know I’m going to bring out all that teenage angst!
To get a true taste of Angela Chase, here are the key ingredients!!
The beauty of this costume is that Claire’s wardrobe was super 90s/grungy/thrift store chic, so in gathering pieces for my version, I’m snagging everything from my closet, aside from the floral babydoll dress I got at a garage sale a few weeks back.
Let’s get (Brian) Krack(ow)-in!
Red Head Costume Week! Joan Holloway – Mad Men
Red Head Week commences!
First costume of the week: Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks) on Mad Men.
I’m a total Mad Men junkie and am obsessed with Joan and her role at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (I’m totally obsessed with Megan Draper (Jessica Paré) too, but we’ll see more of MD later on in the week!). I brought a few photos to the salon when I got my hair ‘did and Christina Hendricks was on my hair vision board. Did I say “hair vision board”? Why yes, I most definitely did!
To recreate this Joan Holloway look, I’ve included a few key ingredients below to really make this costume pop!
I also snagged inspiration from this genius batch of Joan paper dolls as well…
I used a dress that a reader sent my way to make my Joan look come to life!
21 Days to Go: Kerry Washington’s 2012 Emmy Look – Kotur Copycat
Who else was watching the Emmys last night? Total tradish to get together with friends, cook up an Italian feast, and talk during most of the ceremony describing which shows rule (my faves Homeland & Breaking Bad!), which shows don’t rule (I’m taking the 5th on that one!), and who was wearing it totally right!
I thought Zooey Deschanel looked stunning in Reem Acra…
…and Kat Dennings crimson J Mendel was insane.
I totally loved Kerry Washington’s Vivienne Westwood dress too…
…and was even more obsessed with her lizard Kotur clutch!
(Thanks to my gal AK who pointed it out on the carpet and knew I’d love!) I just couldn’t have been more into that perfectly paired accessory, so I decided I’d get on the DIY train for this piece immediately!
I began with my Judith Lieber clutch, already in my collection.
It had a similar pinkish/gold hue and would be just the base for this clutch remake!
26 Days to Go: Mercura NYC Copycat
Just because summer is technically over as of today doesn’t mean we can’t still channel those summer vibes! I found these amazing Mercura NYC shades in an issue of Marie Claire a bunch of months back and I knew I had to recreate!
Beachy shades come fall? Totally bring it.
I began with a pair of plastic Wayfarer-esque shades I picked up at SXSW when I was there in March. Free shades courtesy of YouTube are now becoming the main component of this copycat!
I popped out the lenses to avoid getting paint on the frames when I begin to change their color…
…gathered my sealife beads…
…and started crafting!
51 Days to Go: Copycat – Zac Posen
It’s been a wedding-y year for me and there’s a few more around the corner (one this weekend!), so today is partially wedding themed. You’ll see in a hot second. (PS, get ready for wedding week…it’s coming soon!!!)
First off, I was completely inspired by Reese Witherspoon’s amazing Zac Posen dress she wore to the How Do You Know? premiere last December and knew I could remake it!
Remake it with something from my own closet…my black tea length bridesmaid dress from the wedding of one of my BFFs!! In lieu of a silly before pic, I’m giving you actual, legitimate, wedding action shots circa 2007.
We all wore a champagne sash at our waist and were able to tie it in different ways!
J really picked easy dresses for us all to wear and it’s one that has been in my closet for the past few years! I’ve lent it out and now felt it was time to bring it back into my rotation!!
Fun before shots today, eh??
