Week 19: Getting Knitty With It!

OK, so I've been wanting to get on the knitting train for reals as of late.  I took a class about ten years ago and was on a kick, but then let it fall to the waist side.  Not that I have a whole lot of extra time to spend at the moment, I did want a refresher course and I got to take one with my mama which was the best part!! I've been seeing such amazing knit goods like pretty socks from one of my favorite and eco-friendly UK brands, Lowie...

Lowie Mohair Knee Socks

...and hand knit bow ties that the über knit-fabulous YesJess makes on Etsy...

Yes Jess' Dapper Knit Tie

...that my knitting fire has been reignited!  Woo!

Not sure how many of you are knitters or crocheters, but I'm a total amateur.  You can't just get away with 'making it work' when it involves loops and needles and needles going through loops!

I picked my yarn...

Picked my yarn!

...and was given not one but three demos on how to cast on!

Cast on!!!

(Does that remind anyone else of The Karate Kid?  Each time the instructor said cast on, my head went to Mr. Miyagi and Ralph Macchio waxing on and off!)

First Row done!

I began my first row and then got more and more comfortable.  I had to keep my eyes on each loop but it will be exciting when I can do it without looking!

 On a roll!!

I nailed a good ten or so rows done in class and then I kept on going...

Slowly but surely!

My scarf isn't complete yet, but will get there soon enough!!  It was a super rainy day today, so I took a little work break to have tea and tomato soup, knit for a little while and watch my favorite rainy day movie...COCKTAIL!!  Yep, Cocktail, and I'm totally owning up to it.

Flip those bottles TC!

One - it takes place on the beach.  Rainy day perfection...

Two - it has a killer soundtrack.  I mean Kokomo, circa John Stamos/Beach Boys era?  Done.

Three - it has Tom Cruise spinning bottles of booze trying to woo Elisabeth Shue.

Four - just look at the tagline...

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya...

"When he reigns, he pours."  You go, Tom Cruise!  Screams rainy day to me.

So, what's your favorite rainy day movie??  Leave a comment with your answer below and a winner will get picked randomly tonight (12/13) and mentioned in tomorrow’s (12/14) post.  Up for grabs today is a little knit kit complete with...

Day 12 Giveaway Goodies

...Boye Size 8 needles in Gold, some deliciously-soft yarn from Deborah Norville's Serenity Collection in Golden (I had no idea she was so creative and yarn fabulous!), and some pre-knit sock/slippers to aid in rainy day chills while you're waiting to finish handmade socks on your own!
