Week 21: Elise

Happy December friends!! To ring in this month of giving and to thank you all for your patience with me and my more limited posts as of late while I've been manuscripting, I'm doing a 31 days of December, aka NEW DRESS A GIVEAWAY, giving away something awesome each day this month!!  It's like "Oprah's Favorite Things" up in this piece!

At the end of every December post will be the prize o'the day and you'll have until the end of the day to leave a comment and sign up - the winner will be randomly chosen and listed on the next day's post.  Got it?  Good!  There's going to be an awesome mix of  things I love (some handmade, some not, some big, some small, some smelly and delicious, some watchable, some readable, you get the drill...) that a lucky recipient will be receiving.  Get excited because I love giving presents :)

To today's piece!  Miss Elise sent me this dress...

Hi Marisa, I wanted to send you something from my closet but, good for me and bad for you, I've gotten rid of most of my outdated pieces.  I am borderline OCD, so you can imagine what my closet looks like.  Anyway, instead of pulling from my wardrobe I pulled from the wardrobe of Goodwill and out came this dress that looked like something Julia Roberts would have worn in Pretty Woman during her shopping spree.  I hope you have fun with it!!  I'm a fan of black and pink, so I think you will be able to make something with it.

Week 21: Elise - Before

When I saw this dress I knew that it would be perfect for the night I had planned.  I'm going to see The Muppets and this is going to be my Miss Piggy look.  It's pink, so it'll be perfect.

Miss Piggy!

"There is the satisfaction of providing your public with a vision of true beautology, true sytlisity, - how can I put it – true glamorositude."  You tell em, Miss P!!

My first step was to remove the pink top from the black skirt.  With my shears, I began to trim away.

Almost a two parter!

Once I had the top by itself...

The top is free!

...I snipped out the shoulder pads...

Out with the shoulder pads!

...and began to pin the back where I want to take it in.  The top was bigger on me and I wanted to make it a little more snug, more blousy looking.

Pin the back!

Once I was all pinned up, I began to stitch down the back of the piece (on the inside of the fabric) to begin the fitting process.

Take it in!

There was a good three inches that I was taking in and I stopped my stitching right at the waist (where the black material is above).  I want there to be a bit of a train of sorts, which I will get by leaving the excess fabric to drape in the center.  I trimmed the excess material from the back of the top and had my blouse ready for movie night!!

Week 21: Elise - After

"Moi's hair has natural curls.  So does her tail."

A little train in the back!

I was so excited to finally see this - I've been a ridiculous Muppet fan since I was a wee lass and remember watching episodes of The Muppet Show (and Fraggle Rock) with my dad, so the reboot was just what I needed!  (Thank you Jason Segel for bringing this back for all to enjoy :)

It's even in green font!!

Obviously I wanted some movie snacks, but didn't realize that term was actually coined!!  Not just nachos, movienachos!!

Not just nachos...

I was that girl getting sentimental when Statler and Waldorf made their first appearance, when Kermit spoke his first word, when Fozzie said his first 'Wocka Wocka' and when Animal was just being Animal.  Were there tears??  I'm not fessing up, but I will say that for a girl who cried in The Parent Trap remake with Lindsay Lohan (I know...) I'll let you make your decision.

I think I was tap dancing up the escalator on my way out.  With my Kermit green jacket on (like how I paired my ensemble to a Miss Piggy/Kermit color palette?) I took a picture with the cast, as if I were dancing along with them.  It just looks like I'm Amy Adams cousin throwing jazz hands right next to her.

I obviously wanted to be a part of the Muppets!

The dancing continued down the empty walkways of the mall and luckily for me there was nobody there to judge my juvenile actions.  (The security guard was on full watch at Santa's kiosk, so I was in the clear!)

Are you talking to Moi??

Because of my love for the Muppets, Day 1 of NEW DRESS A GIVEAWAY December is totally puppet themed!!

Day 1 Goodies!!

In this prize pack are five note cards/envelopes in Kermit's lovely green shade, Muppet stickers, my favorite OPI nail polish shade "Gettin Miss Piggy With It" (red sparkles, hello fun fab holiday hue!) from their Muppet collection, and a nail file to get the talons looking savvy.

To enter, leave a comment below with your favorite Muppet or favorite show as a kid and a winner will be picked randomly tonight and mentioned in tomorrow's post!  Check in each day to win - some days will have multiple winners too.  Tis the season, right?
