NDAD: New Year's Eve Edition!

First off, I cannot believe that 2010 is coming to an end!  I have to say that this year was simply incredible - it's been a joy to put my creative self first and share it with you guys.  I couldn't be more blessed or lucky to have such fantastic readers.  OK, OK before I start to get teary-eyed from sentimentalizing (it happened enough on Day 365) it's time to get ready to party into 2011!!  It wouldn't be New Year's without a fab dress and it wouldn't be New Dress A Day if it wasn't a dollar, right? The outfit for ze festivities...

New Year's Eve: Before

I'm a metallic gal so when I found this piece I knew it could work for the night.  I also had another piece that I was going to use as well...in going through some of my mom's pieces, I found this winner from the 80s.

Um, hello rhinestones!

Silk.  Turquoise.  Rhinestones!

I was going to be taking all those shiny fellas off!!

Taking off those puppies!

With my scissors, I snipped off all the rhinestones and beads that were attached to the chest area.

GEMS!!!

I took my collection and put it off to the side for a minute while I went back to the gold dress!  I took my seam rippers and began to take off the collar.  The fabric isn't the most comfy and I knew my neck would be itching all night if I didn't remove it.

De-Collarizing!

After the neck was starting to take shape, I tackled the length next.  I wanted a shorter party dress so I got to cutting!

Short, check!

With the collar gone, I trimmed an even neckline.  I didn't want to stitch it up top because I like the way the fabric curled at the raw edges, especially when I stretched it out a bit.  I wanted less structure so this was going to work perfectly.

Clean neckline!

Now, those rhinestones I put to the side...I got them out and started to make a little pattern at the neck.  I got them in place...

Stone placement

...and then made marks with my fine point Sharpie to note each rhinestone's spot.

Sharpie dot marks the spot!

Threaded my needle with some white thread and stitched each one of the 40 rhinestones in place!

Stitch time!

Nip, tuck, done time!  Curled the locks, threw on the heels and got ready to watch the ball drop!!

New Year's Eve: After

I loved my über metallic neckline...I mean, bring it, right?  It is New Year's...
