We’ve all got summer on the mind and I’ve been doing my best to find dresses made up of the lightest cotton possible! I did recently find a fab tweed dress that will just have to wait until the end of the summer to get some love. So with warmth in the air and June right around the corner, it’s time to see what Ash has worked out for us this month!
Hej, friends! I debated which item to tackle for my May redo from the towering pile of clothes from my mom’s attic. There were a couple of very flowery/springy options but I wound up landing on this piece from the 80s. While this pattern is a bit autumnal in tone, I just love that paisley print and the cotton was so light and airy…
…I thought I could turn it into a flouncy, playful spring dress with a few key adjustments. And it has POCKETS! Gosh, I am such a sucker for a dress with pockets. Just like my Grammy who was always stashing tissues or handkerchiefs in her dress pockets, I’ve even found a rogue rumpled handkerchief in some of her dresses since she passed in 2001. A reminder that an appreciation and love of dress pockets is timeless. Who else out there is dress pocket obsessed?
My mom informed me that this dress was purchased at Appleseed’s (at their original flagship store in Hingham, MA) for my parents’ yearly Thanksgiving tomfoolery with their siblings/cousins. A pre-kid pastime that involved many a case of wine and champagne, silly face masks that were worn during the meal, and copious amounts of food, friendship and laughter. Sounds like a grand occasion indeed.
While I was digging the paisley, I was not digging those tapered long sleeves and the length on my 6 foot frame.
How’s everybody’s week going so far? The holiday weekend always has me on a slight delay…I have been off with my days (I actually wrote Wednesday in the title of the post and just had to go back and tweak) and need to play serious catch up!
I have two fun trips coming up – Palm Springs this weekend and NY next week – and I’ve been trying to get some pieces prepped, so today I’ve got a giveaway on tap.
I found these awesome resin floral studs with pearls and rhinestones at Urban Outfitters and had to get a pair to giveaway. (I also had to get a pair for myself too, because I only wear studs or hanging earrings that I’ve made into clip-ons and these were just so fab.)
To enter, leave a comment below with what you did over the weekend, if you’re out of sorts like I am, or if holiday weekends leave you re-energized/lethargic. A winner will get picked next week before I leave for NY!
I went thrifting last weekend and purchased this lovely garment from the American Way Thrift Store in Burbank (one of my faves!). I was totally drawn in because of the amazing color…
…fab embroidery, and eyelet lace, however it wasn’t made for an adult.
This was straight outta the kids section! I couldn’t close the top of the dress if I tried!
That obviously didn’t stop me from purchasing it!
I can’t wait to turn this from pint size to my size!
I got today’s lovely piece from my gal Sonya Nimri. We have fun trading stuff to each other that we don’t like for ourselves – I’ll bring over shoes that don’t work for me but are perfect for her and vice versa.
I guess I just lucked out with this piece.
Does this skirt not scream 80s hair band? I smell Poison, Guns n Roses, Def Leppard…
…and Arrested Development (not the band) which starts back up on Netflix today!!! For the AD fans, this piece made me think of Tobias Fünke (David Cross) and his suffering from being a Never Nude. (For the non-fans, this Never Nude syndrome forces Tobias to never be nude, always wearing cut-off jorts under his clothes. Ridiculous and amazing.)
I’m so excited about the new season and I’m such a huge fan of the show that I went to the pop-up banana stand this past week in LA to indulge in an “On the go-go banana” (OK, just a regular chocolate covered one)…
…and thought this skirt would be my Never Nude uniform
The fabric in this dress just called out to me! I’m such a fan of the pink/orange/red color palette and think it’s a fabulous way to ring in the summer!
This is my mom’s dress from the 70’s that I recently pulled out of my old bin of dress up clothes from when I was little. I’ve wanted a maxi dress for the summer, but never really found one that I loved in stores.
What will Erica do to make her mom’s dress work for her?
