Friday Remake

Feb 8, 2013 | 23 Comments

I’m a total cardigan girl.  I love pairing them with my outfits for a little color pop as well as a little pop of warmth.  You know, the Southern California weather might not get too frigid that often, however the nights cool down like the Dickens and a cardi is a girl’s best friend.

(My BFF, fo sho!  My car is like a cardigan factory)

I have a handful of ones with patterns and a bunch of just solid colors, so I thought I’d take one of those solid ones and zhuzh it up a bit!

Here’s what it looked like before…

BEFORE

It didn’t seem to get much love, so I thought a little face lift would do the trick.  Instead of needles and anesthesia, we’re going the glue and gems route.

Gems!!!

Mmm, gems!

I took my flat-backed gems that I procured at one of those hole in the wall craft spots in downtown LA and began to test some patterns.

Design Testing!

Anytime I’m using rhinestones, I always test out locations before actually affixing.  It’s like going to a party…you always make the rounds and take some laps to check out the crowd before settling on a location.  (Am I right, girls?)

Got my pattern!

I came up with this fun triangle motif, and made a little faux collar at the neck…

Placing ma’gems!

…and continued the triangles in-between each button.

It’s like the triangle paintings from Seinfeld!

All my gems got placed and then I grabbed my Aleene’s Glitter & Gem glue…

Glitter & Gem Glue!!

…and started tacking down!

Tack & Press!

I let my piece dry overnight and then had a new (and improved) cardi ready for the town!

AFTER

I paired this piece with a vintage tie neck blouse, leather braided belt, and a fab pair of red clip-on earrings that I scored at the flea market!

Vintage Clip-Ons!

To bring out the colors in the blouse, I grabbed my Trina Turk clutch and Michael Antonio platform heels.

Heels of Steel!

Those heels are no joke!  I got them at a sample sale in December because A, I felt like I needed a pair of crazy platforms, and B, who doesn’t need a hot pair of red shoes??

I just love how the gems glisten in the light.  It’s the perfect amount of glam to add to any outfit.

Bluebell!

This is something totally work appropriate and would also look darling over a dress.

Take that!

This shot just happened to catch me trying to punch out the camera from afar with my clutch.  Yep, pretending to be Mike Tyson, sans eye tat.

Stoop Shot!

Cardigan, BP (from my closet) // Blouse, Vintage // Jeans, Levis (they were $23!) // Clutch, Trina Turk // Earrings, vintage // Sunnies, Urban Outfitters // Heels, Michael Antonio // Belt, Vintage

And speaking of TKO, don’t mess with me (or my family/friends/blog readers/acquaintances) or I will cut you with my fierce shoes.  Just giving you an FYI.  I will take you down with these heels, so step back.

(Little side note, they almost took me out because of their weight, but now I’m feeling way more confident after our little talk.  Yeah, we had a little talk and I asked them to be nice.  They didn’t say anything back, however I took that as a silent, “fine.”)

Happy Friday, friends!

  • Sue

Love the whole outfit, and those heels are awesome. I couldn’t wear them but damn, they are hot.

Question about the gem glue… how long does it last?

Happy Friday to you too. :)

  • Chrissy

The whole outfit is gorgeous, with the new party-cardi adding just enough glam. Love this idea! How much do I want an old-school Bedazzler right now?!

This remake is fantastic and I just love the whole outfit. You are such an inspiration to dress it up in this cold and sometimes dreary season!

  • sash

    nice look

  • Audra

Marisa. when you are done with those shoes, will you send them my way so i can “remake” them and give them a new home?! haha I put remake in quotes cause I wouldn’t change a thing about them! LOVE!!!

  • Sarah_H.

I’m not a gems girl, but I could make an exception for this sweater. Perfect! But I have to admit that another reason I am thankful for my age is that I do not have to feel dowdy because I would not even think of wearing those shoes. Please spend enough time out of heels that you do not distort your leg and foot muscles. They have to last you for a long time yet.

  • Shrav

Oh wow..loved the cardi…and you look like a million bucks, without spending the millions ofcourse…so classy!

  • Judy B

the gems are very cute–I like the triangles idea–the shoes are AWESOMENESS SQUARED!

  • TexasGal

The whole outfit is super cute, but I have a request…could you please show us some pics of the entire look? You have some pics of the outfit with your feet cut off, and other pics of the outfit with your head cut off. I’d just really like to see the whole thing together. Thanks!

    • http://www.facebook.com/marie.roxanne.3 Marie Roxanne

Maybe you can ask the photographer? LOL

  • Katie P

    So cute!!!

  • Edith

Ok, I absolutely LOOOVE the bedecked & bjewelled (is that a word?)cardi & agree – who doesn’t need a gorgeous red pair of shoes!!!!!

  • Lovestosew

Killer shoes! I’d wear them in a heartbeat. I’m a heels girl all the way. The cardy looks great. I love the way you styled it and I could also see it as a cover for an evening dress on those Early Spring nights out.

  • Lauraly

Lovely redo, and love the entire ensemble! One of my favs!

  • patty

Loved the look! One of my favorites.

  • Diane

Those gems really perked up the plain cardigan! But did they weight down the cardi? Also, what about washing?

  • carol

Love the triangles between the buttons – what a great design – and love how the cardi went from blah to spectacular. The hot red heels really create another level of pizzazz.

Love it, might have to try this myself.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marie.roxanne.3 Marie Roxanne

I love the look of the gems. How do you wash the now glued gem cardigan? By hand in the sink?

  • Jennifer

Excellent remake! It zhuzhes up the cardy without looking overdone. I really like the styling – very smart, elegant and put together. Those shoes rock the house!

  • Jime

I love what you did with the cardigan, but those shoes are just dreamy!!!

  • Shelley

Fancy!!!! Love the entire outfit! :)

  • Charity

I’m not a big bedazzler… but I really love this remake! Those jewels add just the perfect hint of sparkle and I love the way you arranged them. =)
