The After Look:

New Dress A Day - DIY - upcycled dress - Outfit Rewind

AFTER #1

I wore this last spring when it was much warmer (See: Starbucks iced bevvie) and popped a squat at Pottery Barn Kids while enjoying a little Star Wars coloring.  You know, like you do when you’re an adult, or tween disguised as a grown lady :)

It’s a little chillier this go, so I had to dress it appropriately.  Wanna see??

I took a navy striped Banana Republic cardigan and paired it on top of the short sleeved dress along with some brown floral tights and a pair of vintage boots!

AFTER #2

Oh, and those earrings, they’re totally costume.  I got them for a buck and the best part is that they’re clip-ons!

Outfit Rewind!!

The sunglasses were the final, sunny day touch.

A touch of pink…

Tights, Target // Earrings, downtown LA // Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters // Boots, Vintage // Cardigan, Banana Republic (thrifted)

It was fun pairing this dress with some darker shades, just to bring out more of the blue in the piece.  It also totally helped to downplay the boldness of the pinks, greens, and oranges, making it feel a little more subtle.  It’s so much fun to re-wear and re-style!!

Happy Friday, friends!

That fabric is so sweet & retro – I really like it, both times.

  • Kelsey

Have you done anything with the fabric scraps yet? This print is adorable, I look forward to seeing what you made with the rest of it!
Great outfit -it’d be super cute with yellow tights too!

    • newdressaday

I need yellow tights in my life!!

  • Annie

I really love the outfit rewind feature because it allows us to see your remakes again and in a fresh way. I’m all for pattern mixing but I gotta say the color of these tights and pattern is competing with the fabric. I think matching (normally I don’t like that word) tights in perhaps blue or even black (which seems to tone down bright prints in a good way) would really compliment that “sweet & retro” fabric, which deserves to be the star!

    • newdressaday

Totally! I’m doing some tights shopping this weekend because shockingly enough I don’t have navy :) I’ll mix it up with more opaque designs next time!

  • Leah D.

I really like look 2….maybe better than the first!

    • newdressaday

Me too, LD!! (PS/FYI I’m always jealous of your initials. Larry David is my fave…)

  • audra

i loveeeeeeee remake 2! it’s totally something I would rock. and those earrings…downtown LA?! aka Fashion District?! you make me want to plan another trip out west Marisa!! :) Happy Friday!

    • newdressaday

Girl, they were $1!! There are so many costume jewelry stands with tons of stuff. Lots of junk, but these were diving. COME VISIT!!!

  • L

So, so cute. Love the earrings and the tights!

  • Sarah_H.

I love everything but the brown tights…too many patterns.

  • Ethne @ www.wom-mom.com

Your hair is so great red!

    • newdressaday

      Thanks E :) xo

  • Linda

Love it, all but the tights which don’t seem to go.

  • Buffy

All this time I’ve been missing your original hair color…until NOW! This whole ensemble, hair color and all, put a widdle baby, smiley flutter in my heart. Awww, thanks. :) It’s so great to see you change things up like this. Neato. Thanks for continuing on and inspiring us all.

I have the exact same tights!! :D
About the only thing I would change is I’d add a ribbon around the empire waits of the dress as a sash in a color that matches the tights… otherwise, awesome outfit!

  • Jen

I love everything about this!!! The tights are great! I love mixing patterns and actually like it better when things don’t “match.” I’m dying over the dress. That fabric is so fun! Great job!!!

  • Meghan Elizabeth

this is too cute, and I’m loving the redder hair!

LOVE the blue cardi and the earrings are a refreshing pop. I’m with the others on the tights though. They pull your eyes away from the cute dress.

  • tiffany

the tights? really? you thought that looked good? the cardi totally works though.

Love it all… the earthy brown tones really set off the blue and I love the texture contrasts of the tights and cardi.
