That’s A Wrap, Holiday 2012

Jan 1, 2013 | 9 Comments

To kick off 2013, and my final full day in NC, we cooked up a mean meal of black eyed peas, cornbread, green beans, squash, and creamed corn – all good luck foods to start the year with!  I’m not sure if chips, queso, and margaritas are considered good luck too, but we had those bad boys before we dug into the veggies.

I figured I’d post a few of my favorite photos from the trip today as a little recap, partially due to the fact that I had to get my suitcase packed before everyone arrived for “Lucky Dinner” – I’ll be hand sewing on the plane, y’all!

The trip began with a Charlotte signing where I got to see one of my oldest and dearest friends from NY.  We used to make jewelry and go door-to-door selling our pieces on cookie sheets looking like little cigarette girls at the age of 8.

One of my oldest friends, NB

My favorite thing to get each time I come to Charlotte is Cheerwine, so when I saw this I nearly passed out.  (Cheerwine is a most delicious soda that I’ve only seen here in NC – any other Cheerwiners out there??)  Oh, and I totally bought a pint.

I couldn’t resist a little dress up in the camo section of a sporting goods store, like you do when you’re in a sporting goods store.

My chainz are vintage!

After an amazing time with the family, I’m all packed and ready to head to the airport for a day of flights and layovers and more flights and more layovers before landing in LA after the sun sets.

May everyone’s travels be safe as the vacation and holiday ends and may everyone’s work week be easy to mesh right back into!

Also, congratulations to Elizabeth Ryan who’s the crafty goody winner from the holiday book order submission.  Everyone who submitted their receipts from 11/22-12/31 will be getting their playlists sent out this weekend!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Cheerwine plant was 2 blocks from where I grew up in Salisbury, NC, as was the Stanback Headache Powder plant. On one trip, I found Cheerwine laced through vanilla ice cream (ready-made float!) I have a carton of drinks in the cold garage now, but have to be careful when I drink it – the caffeine keeps me awake! Next trip, travel to Lexington for the best BBQ in the country! Am looking forward to your 2013 projects and love seeing what others are doing. Thanks for sharing your talent and extending the spotlight to others!

Carol and Marisa I’m no longer a Cheerwine drinker since I no longer live in NC. However, I’m originally from Kannapolis, NC about 15 minutes from Salisbury so of course I grew up drinking Cheerwine. This is the first time I’ve heard about Cheerwine ice cream. If only I weren’t vegan I would try it out ;-)

How fun! Love family time. And yes, queso and margaritas are an essential part of the lucky formula.

OK… so… next time you are in a sporting goods store, I have a fun game for you. My dad is an outdoors guy, and a notoriously slow shopper, so when my brother and I were kids we used to spent what felt like HOURS in sporting goods stores! The game is, you have to find the funniest hyphenated product name. Usually you find them in the fishing section or the deer lure section. Our all-time favorites are the fishing lure known as “Troll-a-Eel” and the deer lure product “Snort-Grunt-n-Wheeze.” Enjoy!!

Happy New Year! Settlers of Catan is one of my favorite games! I consider it a gateway game to other fancy board games :) And I can’t believe I won the crafty goodies! I never win anything, hopefully this is a sign of good things to come in 2013. Thanks!
