Happy New Year!!

Dec 31, 2012 | 13 Comments

It’s the first day of 2013 and I couldn’t be happier for the new year ahead!!  I’m hoping all of you enjoyed ringing in 2013 with your family, friends, loved ones, pups, kitties, and kiddos, and even though I wasn’t physically there with you counting down, I was there in spirit.  I’m really just so lucky to have all of you part of my life and I can’t wait for everything that’s to come!

I had more fun than I should have putting together my little NYE ensemble using this FAH-bulous piece I snagged.

BEFORE

I was obsessed with the extra apron-y piece that covered the top of the dress, not to mention the red and black layers.  It felt super flamenco, except I wasn’t wearing ballroom shoes.

Extra Layers!!

I’m going to coif this into something that screams marvelous instead of meh :)

I started off by removing that top layer!

Detaching!!!

A clipped seam here, a snipped piece there…

Trimming!!

The layer has been taken down!!!  Maybe I should just wear it like this??

It’s off!!

Yeah, that’s not going to happen :)

I got rid of the shoulder pads…

Pads, out!!

…and might make myself another batch of change purses with these guys!!

And they’re out!!

Now that the top layer was gone, I trimmed a few inches down the center to begin a V neck.

Trim!

I cut off the sleeves…

More trimming!

…adjusted the shoulder seams (I brought them down two inches to turn this dress into more of a top) and pinned the neckline/sleeves/shoulders in place…

Pin!!

…before I cracked open my sewing machine.

Needles Down.

I tossed on a pair of skinny jeans underneath my new ruffle-y top with my black Kenneth Cole ankle boots and had an outfit ready to say hello to 2013 in!!

AFTER

I wore my go-to, black Cynthia Vincent cashmere cape on top to stay toasty…

NYE!!!

…while watching all the fun NYE coverage!  I was not in NY this year, however seeing Anderson Cooper’s Times Square iPhone shot brought me right back to midtown.

    I like your “arm warmers”!

  • kissem37

I love the way this one turned out! Its an easy transition from dressy to casual with the styling- love that kind of versatility :)

    adorable!

Cute! Last night I wore a brocade halter dress from Muse that I found at Goodwill for $12. It fit perfectly and was in perfect condition! Although it cost more than a buck, I got to wear something that I wouldn’t have been able to afford without someone’s thoughtful donation.

  • Laura Whitman

You made it is so perfect! Seriously, one of your best yet! Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for ’13. (look at me, rhyming.) :P

    xoxo,

Cute refashion! Here’s another idea for the shoulder pads that I’ve done before and it works great. Shoulder pads make great padding for those moments where I need that extra “oomph” in the bust department. The half-circle ones work great if you need the oomph in the lower bust, and the full-circle ones look great to add some volume,

      inexpensive breast enlargement! :D

I love how you shortened this and kept the ruffles, I was terrified you were going to rid of them! Great top! Happy New Year Marisa, may 2013 bring you even more happiness!

Very cute! 2012 was a very difficult year for me and my family but you helped make it brighter each day! Here’s to 2013!

  • Dianerz

Love what you did with it…However we can’t really see the top in the final photos. Would have liked to see more of that, since it’s the part you did the sewing to. Skirt looks much better, great idea to lift it up. Happy New year!

Happy 2013, Marisa! I’ll be tagging along this year too, enjoying your joye de vivre as much as your crafty ideas and wardrobe inspiration. Sincere thanks for the work you do. You and my morning coffee and I am ready to face the day.

I do like this as a top. So glad you kept the ruffles!

  • TourMama

Interesting choice to make it casual with jeans. Personally I think New Year’s Eve is one night to go for glamour, but to each their own!

Very cute Marisa! Excited to see what you create in 2013! Curious… why did you decide to take up the shoulders vs. working the drop waist?
