I love me some iridescent sequined purses.  From vintage ones…

…I’m a fan.  So, when I snagged this purse from a swap party a few months back…

Swapped Metallic Purse – Before

…I knew exactly what I was going to do with it!!  The fact that there were tons of indentations and little scuff marks all along the top of it…

Indentations & Scuff Marks!!

…made it an even easier choice to cover the bag in sequins.  Woo hoo, it’s iridescent times tonight friends!!

I chose my supplies carefully and went with an assortment of seeks…shortened version of sequins, obviously :) I chose shiny ivory, lavender, silver, and some turquoise, however the turquoise* ended up on the cutting room floor.  *Spoiler Alert.

I warmed up my GG (Glue Gun can now own the abbrev, since Gossip Girl is over…) and started to dab hot glue, then apply the pretty sequins.

Got Glue??

I began this piece as a little demo at my San Francisco signing…

…and then finished it up at home!  I brought my low heat GG which made it a bit difficult, not to mention the outlet was a little further away, but I did get started in SF!

It took lots of time placing those sequins down – for the bigger sequins, I dabbed the backs of them with glue and then placed and for the smaller sequins, I put glue down on the purse and placed them on top.  I kind of got it down to a little science!

Once the sequins were down and the glue dried, I sprayed a little bit of Krylon’s Finishing Spray to seal the sequins in place.  Who’s got a new iridescent purse now??

Swapped Metallic Purse – After

You’ll see me toting this around on an upcoming post as the sneezes and sniffles I’ve come down with – hopefully both allergy related – are keeping me from changing out of my fleece-lined leggings, Minnetonka slippers, and chenille blanket that’s wrapped around me, to shoot a picture with it in my hands.

I am glad you didn’t do the whole bag just the flap. It looks great! Love the multicolored look!

  • kissem37

That looks fantastic! And I agree- just the flap was a good choice. How cute are you in that pic from sf?! Ringlets and a strawberry cardigan :)

what a great redo. i love purses(as my collection of about 50 proves) and that is such a cool idea.

  • Diane2809

Really pretty! Did you place the sequins in a pattern or just randomly? I am OCD enough that I probably would have driven myself nuts getting the pattern perfect! I need to loosen up a bit!

  • Sarah_H.

That bag is totally fabulous! Hope you are better soon. Winter allergies are the worst…I have them too.

  • Susie

What a cool idea for the purse–love the glitter–& your humor abbrevs. :- ) Hope you feel better pronto so you can be 100% over the holidays– hope you are. Merry Christmas!

  • Christi S.

    Really cute!

In high school I made a whole poster of the pond, grass, trees, sky, reeds, swan, etc. from the Ugly Duckling story out of punched holes (what do you call those things leftover from a hole-puncher???) and sequins. I totally feel your pain!

  • Leanne

I hope you feel better soon Marisa!
