Today’s piece from Keri was so fabulous that it made me wish I had it to use during all my current travels!!  Check it out!

Hi, Marisa!  Your site has inspired me (I’m still happily going through your archives) and while I have tried a few of your ideas on some back-of-the-closet things I found, this by far was my fave project!  I had a super cute round vintage suitcase…

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Suitcase

Vintage Suitcase Times!

…but it was very boring.

OK, I need something like this in my life!  On the prowl for vintage suitcases stat!  Just wait to see what she does!!

I bought two colors of spray paint (the kind for plastics) and a can of lacquer spray paint.  I used masking tape to protect the labels and large buckle, then gave it two coats of the mint green paint.  Next, I used more masking tape and newspapers to create the stripes with the dark brown paint and let it sit overnight.

Upcycled Suitcase Complete!

I used clear lacquer over the entire thing and TA-DA my suitcase is ready for public travel!

Thanks for all you do :o )

I will say that you must be the chic-est traveler hitting the TSA line at the airport!!  I’m coveting this piece and can’t wait to make one of my own!  Thanks so much for sharing K!!

(PS, see you Phoenix locals at Changing Hands Bookstore today at 4pm!)

So cool. I have some vintage luggage from my Mom’s house. Will tackle it at some point. I kept one especially for my beading supplies and dressed up it will look a lot nicer sitting in the spare room.

Great Graphics! Keri. Now where are some of my old suitcases…..Actually, I have two old wardrobe trunks that I would love a good idea what to do with. They are as big as a small closet, not at all portable, with drawers on one side and hanging space on the other. Ideas anyone?

That is SUCH an amazing idea. I need to do this to the next vintage suitcase I find. I’m lucky the thrift shop near my parent’s house always has a lot for REALLY cheap. Thanksgiving project!

    Laura

With two toddlers, I won’t be traveling as stylishly as you for many years, but love the suitcase — great job and what vision!

    This? Is fantastic!

  • Adin Blankenship

It’s funny, but it actually looks more vintage now than the before condition. LOL! Could that even be possible? Anyway, it is so cute and what a great job. Coolest traveler ever she will be toting it. :)

I was thinking postage stamps. Wanted to share, when shortening dresses to tops, ( I have been into Baroque designs), make an infinity scarf with the leftover hem. I have one from a nylon material, but thought would work great on heavier poly faux wool materials too.

This is just so extremely cool . . . I am insanely envious. I’m going to start checking the thrift stores for vintage luggage NOW.

I just love this. Wow, wow, wow!
