Happy Monday friends!!  I just got back from Boston after a fantastic few days (fun post to come…) and am heading out to my hometown on Long Island today!!

New Dress A Day - New York Map - Long Island

LI!!!

It’s been a while since I’ve been back, but I couldn’t be happier to see family and friends, not to mention hang at the Barnes & Noble in Bay Shore for a fun book signing/party! (Come out if you’re around NY/NJ/LI/CT friends!)

Today’s dress was one that Miss Jen sent my way…

Unfortunately, the note attached stayed in LA, so I’m without the story behind this piece!  (Jen, feel free to share in the comments section!)

Dancy Times!

I was loving the skirt part of the dress, but needed to fix the top portion!

PS, I love that Jen kept the price tag on this puppy too!  Look at Value Village hookin’ a sistah up!!

Price Tagz!

Because I wanted to keep the skirt intact, I decided to focus my energies on the top portion of the dress!!  The silver panels at the shoulders were awesome, but the sleeves were quite billowy, so I grabbed some scissors and began to chop!

Cut ‘dem sleeves!

That was my one adjustment – a quick sleeve trim to make them fluttery was all that was needed to really change the look and feel of this piece!

I wore the dress in LA, pre-ginger hair…

Much better with the sleeves changed. Have fun and happy travels. :)

  • Paula

Think I would like to see a big silver or red belt added but it looks great. Love the remake.

  • Texasgal

Super cute! I really like it with the necklace in the LA pic.

    • newdressaday

I’m going to wear it again when I’m back and show you what I did to make it!

Sometimes you don’t need much change! And I like the necklace from LA!

Oooh, I couldn’t tell until you got close up that it’s satiny. V. nice.

    • newdressaday

      YES! Satiny and so comfortable!

  • MeaganM

All the sparkly makes me think of New Years. I like this one a bunch! AH! Why do you look so good in buns?!

    • newdressaday

Thank you!! I’m such a bunhead!

  • sash

nice! love the skirt part too. new sleeves are so much better!

  • Sarah_H.

I love the fluttery sleeves. It needs a belt, but not contrast. I’m sure there is enough from the sleeves to make one. But that is my idea and you are a super stylist. Half the professional ones in Hollywood do not do as well as you, judging from some of the things I see on red carpets.

  • Leanne

    Wow! I love it!

  • Keenzi

    Love!

  • rayray

so cute! just have one Q?why are most of your pics at a storage unit?

  • Jen/Reina

Jen in PDX here. I live dangerously close to that Value Village (or VV as I affectionately call it) so it is my go to for many an item. I was sorting through dresses one day and saw this beauty, but told myself I already have plenty of black dresses. It was pretty awesome as is, but I knew you’d be able to take it up a notch. And at $4, why not? I left the tag on because I wanted you to see I hadn’t washed it yet – never know what folks’ skin allergies, etc are. As predicted, you totally rocked it with the smallest change. Nice work lady! Thanks for the continued inspiration!

You know, I think one of your real gifts is not overthinking things sometimes. The silver insets are darling.

I love this! I think it’s my favorite yet.
