Red Head Costume Week: Chucky – Child’s Play

Oct 31, 2012 | 19 Comments

I’m a horror movie addict, so with my new hair, I just couldn’t resist a little Child’s Play action.  There’s nothing better than the all the scary movie marathons that go on all month.  A little Friday the 13th mixed with some Turner Classics for good measure (The Body Snatchers!) makes me a happy camper.  Oh, but obviously not one at Camp Crystal Lake :)

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Chucky!!

Chucky!!

It was fun to make a creepier costume today, and all my costume components came from Goodwill!

Vintage Striped Shirt, Check!

I found a striped shirt with all primary colors which was the key element to getting this outfit complete!  I stitched it up to make it more fitted and then paired it with these guys…

New Dress A Day - DIY - Vintage Striped Shirt - Overalls!

Goodwill Overalls!!

Hello overalls!  Want to see how the whole costume came together??

Oh, and I needed a knife, er, glow in the dark weapon (per the packaging) to complete the scary look!

With my outfit and prop together, I played around with some eyeliner to make scars and used some different shades of red lipstick for blood, before trying to pin/spray/tease my hair to make it Chucky-esque.

My look was complete!

OMG MARISSA!!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. From Scooby Doo to Chuckie!!!!

    • newdressaday

      Giving you the spectrum, Linda!

So gruesome! I love it! Hhahahahahahhahah!

  • Sassy

Wonderful! But did the lipstick come off? For a dress crazy dinner in college several guys borrowed red lipstick for making faces and it took several days for the red to wear off (after half a dozen different creams and cleansers did not work).

    • http://foryourtastebudsonly.blogspot.com/ Roxanne

Well, Marisa is a woman so she knows how to apply makeup if that happens, I guess the guys don’t think of that? LOL

    • newdressaday

Ha, it worked fine for me! I also had on foundation, so that ended up being a good base to get off. Poor dudes!!

  • Sarah_H.

yes! Yes! Do something to make your eyebrows disappear…The doll does not seem to have any.

  • Kayla @ TheEclecticElement

Oh, how AWESOME is that?! I’m definitely a horror movie aficionado myself, so I very much appreciate this ^.^

And hey, at least you had fun doing it!

  • Shelley

OMG Marissa. I saw Child’s play when i was a kid and from then on, I havent watched any horror movie. The scene where the doll was in the Garbage truck was so scary i stopped playing with dolls, and have decided to never see a horror movie again.

But lovely work on the costume! I went as a wholesome nerdy schoolgirl in our office party :)

    • newdressaday

Ooh, I love it! Super cute costume!

    • Charles lee ray

      That’s from child’s play 3… not child’s play.

  • Shrav

I am scared of horror movies and got scared by looking at this post! :( ..yeah I am such a coward! :( :D

  • Violet Baudelaire

I wanted to see your lovely creation, but had to squint or look away to unlikely scroll past my ultimate fear that is dolls! And I bet I’m not the only one who did this to, haha!

    • newdressaday

Ha! I have that fear too – right up there with clowns and puppets…the ventriloquist ones, not Kermit :)

    • Lilouwyn

Definitely was doing the same thing! I don’t even like looking at the stuff. I change the channel if a trailer for a creepy movie comes on tv!

  • Sue

That doll is seriously creepy. Don’t even like to look at it. Yes, you can guess that I am not a fan of the really gory horror flicks.

    Nice job though.

  • Tracie

    awesome I love horror movies!

  • Meghan Elizabeth

    so funny!!!

I had a friend who collected action figurines and dolls and stuff, and he had a two-foot-tall Chuckie (and his bride) up on a high shelf above the sofa. Once while watching a movie, being mellow, no one moving, that Chuckie doll just fell off the shelf and landed on its feet on the ground! it was the weirdest thing… ;)
