19 Days to Go: Halloween Prepping!

Sep 27, 2012 | 176 Comments

Hi Hi Hi!!

Today was a little work-in-progress day that was completely Halloween themed!  I was working on a few costumes for a segment with the local LA CBS affiliate, including the below piece using a fab, black lace appliqué…

New Dress A Day - DIY - Applique Time!

Applique Time!

…along with an orange straw hat that I spray painted black…

New Dress A Day - DIY - Spray Painting!

Spray Painting!!!

…and some flowers I tried to dye darker.  Unfortunately they were a bit too polyester infused, so they only turned a dim grey.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Dip Dye!

Dip Dye!!

I couldn’t just stick to the dark color palette, so I decided that some yellow patent stilettos needed a covering of Krylon’s Glitter Blast.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Glitterati!

Glitterati!

The shoes were totally glitzing in the sun!!  Not to be confused with Glitzy the Pig from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which I just can’t stop watching!

I was a stichin’ fiend all day and will have a new ensemble ready to wear tomorrow!  I must say that I’m super jazzed about all the H’ween costumes I’ve been working on.  I think that you’ll enjoy a little chunk of October devoted to dress up!!

In the interim, I’m doing another mid-week giveaway of a fab Smashbox eye/cheek palette as well as a lip gloss duo, which the lighter of the two is a staple in my makeup kit!

New Dress A Day - DIY - Giveaway

Win Me!

To enter, leave a comment below of what you’re thinking about dressing up as (or dressing your kids/spouse/sibling/friend/etc up as) this year for Halloween!  A winner will randomly get picked next week.  I cannot divulge my costumes yet, however there may be something else drastic going on which may or may not assist in my costuming!!  OK, enough teasing :)

  • Sue

I usually just put on some wild makeup and tease my hair into a frightening mess.

  • Margot

Totally love the lace. I was thinking about going as a Zombie bee for halloween, or anything that involves fun amounts of face makeup :)

  • haley

i was thinking a pirate, but my friend is trying to convince me to do harly quinn (from batman) :)

  • Jean

A western saloon gal! I’ve got a long sleeved burgundy lace dress that I’ll wear over a black, ruffled, mid-calf length slip. Pinch and cinch a few spots on the over skirt so the ruffle shows, add a black leather vest and boots and instant costume! :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lucia.burnett Lucia Green

I’m thinking of a mummy this year, I’ve been doing classic costumes the past few years. I did a witch, zombie, mad scientist and ghost so I think this year is a mummy.

  • kristina allen

My husband MUST do Baine this year, so ill probably end up puttingng together a catwoman costume or something in the barman genre. I do love dressing up!

  • Paula

Halloween is my husband’s birthday so we will be whooping it up big time. Have not yet decided on a costume but will probably be in the mad doctor style this year.

  • http://twitter.com/tonamethestars Erin[?]

“Not to be confused with Glitzy the Pig from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which I just can’t stop watching!”

Not to brag or anything, but Honey Boo Boo & family live about 16 miles away from me (I am in another, slightly more educated, town). I see them in Walmart occasionally and some of my friends have seen the whole family at Huddle House on occasion.

  • Btejkl

No halloweening for me this year but fond memories of making my kids costumes when they were little. I made a shark, Han Solo and Princess Leia, and my all-time favorite, a skunk, plus many more.

  • lindsay

Forrest Gump (in the running days). Big shaggy beard, Bubba Gump Shrimp shirt, and running shorts.

  • sb31463

I recycle my costumes, so this year I’m going to be a Renaissance Princess

  • Connie G

I’m dressing as a crazy cat lady. I found this awesome allover cat print material that I’m making a dress out of. I just need to get my hands on some plush cats to glue on my dress. My mom has A LOT of cat pins so I’m borrowing those to add some extra flare! Can’t wait for Halloween!

    • Laura Bee

Awesome! I was the crazy cat lady a few years ago! Make sure you have a few loose cats to throw at people! lol Maybe velcro them instead of gluing? (I had big pockets on my dress – full of cats!)

  • Micki

This year I’ll probably be Wenda (“Where’s Waldo”s woman friend) as I will have the costume left over from a charity event my DIL is organizing. Picture a park full of 250 Waldos and Wendas running a 5K!

  • Feline

I’m either going as an Army girl (only wore it to one pre-halloween party last year) or as a Saloon girl (I’m planning on remaking the skirt… waaaaay too short, and not at all like i pictured… plus, fun make up!)

  • http://www.facebook.com/melliebaby Melissa Smeets

    The Statue of Liberty

  • Boatgirl

We live in an area that tends to be cold by Halloween so this year I’m planning ahead! I’m thinking I’ll go the Mary Poppins route — long wool coat from Goodwill, dressed up hat, black umbrella, and a large satchel fashioned into a carpet bag to carrry the candy bags my children inevitably ask me to carry for them by the end of trick-or-treating.

  • Heather

My husband is being a 90′s professional wrestler (back with all the glitz, glam and neon!!) and I’m being his wife (I’m holding back names because it would make it too obvious!)

  • Jessi Whitt

We probably won’t be dressing up this year, but we do usually go to our friends’ Halloween party.

  • Desiree

My sons are going to be Avengers (probably Hulk and Captain America), my infant daughter is wearing a hand-me-down hand made lamb costume. I thought about being Mary (Mary had a little lamb) but my husband and I are totally obsessed with “Doctor Who”. He’s going to be Doctor 11 and I’m going to be Amelia Pond.

  • Laura

halloween is my favorite! my mom always went all out for us with homemade costumes growing up and i’m definitely planning to continue the tradish with my 1 year old. last year baby, husband, and i were all chickens, which was excellent. (lots of feather boas, of course!) no decisions yet on this year but the wheels are turning!

  • Elise

I haven’t decided what to do this wear. I do have a fun black curly wig I wore last year when I went to a going away party for a friend. We all dressed up like her. I suppose I could recycle that if I can’t think of anything.

  • Anna W.

Every year our church puts on a Fall Fun Night for the community and I am painting faces, so I want to be something kids will recognize or like! We are expecting cold temps for Halloween hear in WV, so I was thinking Black Widow from the avengers… lots of black and leather and I would get to pin my long curly hair into a face bob, with I have been wanting to do for ages! Or possibly I should go a route where I can paint my own face, like a tiger…in a winter coat.

  • Sarah McClelland

This year I am playing Padme as part of a Star Wars group costume… because the little boy I babysit all the time wants for me to.

  • lookngoodgal

My husband and I are trying to get our kids to be batman characters. No problem getting my son to be batman, but it’s kinda hard to get my daughter to be Harley Quinn. My husband was going to be Robin and I was going to be Joker. Cross your fingers we can pull this off.

  • angarcia41

I’m on a serious Alice in Wonderland kick, so depending on whether I want to be naughty or nice, it’ll be the Queen of Hearts or Alice herself!

  • Shayla Aurora

We are doing a Wizard of Oz theme. My daughter will be a Flying monkey, my husband a winkie (wicked witches guard) and i’ll be the wicked witch.

  • eliza

As a college student i don’t generally dress up for halloween but my hall has been obsessed with one direction and I’m trying to convince my friends to dress up as the group with me :)

  • Jennifer

I am a big Star Trek fan, and I’m dressing up my 16-month-old as Tasha Yar (I received a ST bodysuit from ThinkGeek as a gift while pregnant). I’m planning to go as Deanna Troi, so we’ll match, but my costume will mainly consist of a scrunchie and a low-cut top. ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1490623355 Ronda Kisner

A witch. Almost always a witch.

  • Shelley Murray

I will be very prego this Halloween (39 weeks) but if I can… I was hoping to go as Ursula from the little mermaid :) I figure she had a big round belly so why not?

  • Margo Slaby

Because I’ve got a fantabulous long pixie cut going on on my head right now, I’m planning on embracing my inner Disney and be Tinker Bell! The only problem I’m having is getting my hair from dark brown to platinum blonde…. without coloring it permanently :O Any suggestions?

The boyfriend? He’s going to be on a plane… coming home from his deployment (!!!) so he’ll miss Halloween :( BUT if he were available, he’d be another character from Peter Pan for sure!

  • http://twitter.com/HeatherRivet Heather Rivet

I’m going the low-budget route and I’m going to be a “Devil with a Blue Dress On.” Some devil horns and a pitch fork from the dollar store, a cute blue dress, and some hot red heels! :)

  • jampvending

I LOVE the Hunger Games! I will be dressing up as Effie Trinket! I’ll be recreating the gorgeous pink outfit she wore on the train ride where she infamously said “That is mahogany!”

  • Gail P

My 2 1/2 year old is going to be Buzz Lightyear on Halloween. When I would go out on Halloween (in my younger days!) I would always make my own costumes…..not as creative as you are though, I would just buy the pattern! My favorite one was a genie! Although I’ve also been an angel (ha!), Little Red Riding Hood, and a girl from the 50s in a poodle skirt right down to the saddle shoes!

  • Ginger

    A whimsical squid…

  • NGS

I want to make my cat a pumpkin costume because she hates stuff like that and I love it. Seeing a pissed off kitty in a pumpkin costume is hilarious!!

  • Suzy

I am going to wear a t-shirt that says costume on it, (I might even re-fashion it this year) my son is going to be Clifford the big red dog, my daughter was to be a pig that is a princess.

  • Amber

My son wants to be Perry the Platypus, from “Phineas and Ferb,” for the second year in a row. I’m hoping last year’s costume still fits!

  • Angela

Today, I discovered something called the “siamese slanket” from the as seen on tv website. I’m not sure what that could be, yet, but when I saw it my first thought was “halloween costume!!”

  • ElizS

toddlers & Tiaras- tut, pacifier, pigtails- Check!

  • http://rtthvintage.blogspot.com/ Sara

I’m thinking of being Zelda from Legend of Zelda fame. Just have to get to work on it!

  • Kelly C

Going as Linda Blair from the exorcist complete with pea soup on my nightgown and my hubby is going as a priest :)

  • Shanno

I’m thinking twisted Snow White. Picked up a Disney costume at GoodWill. I’m going to distress it, add a bloody apron and crazy makeup.

  • Ashley

I’m going to dress up my boy Chihuahua in a lamb costume and my little girl Chihuahua will go as Little Bo Peep. Happy Thursday!

  • CarolAnn Williams

My daughter wants to be Laura Croft from Tomb Raider. I think that she is going to look great!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Nichole/100000235734047 Ryan Nichole

I’m going to be a steampunk Cruella Deville! The costume will be complete with dalmatian-print bustle skirt that I made myself. ^_^

  • Shandee Votaw

This year I’ll be a Pirate. Every year my friends have a big TLAPD party (Talk Like a Pirate Day), and the majority of people dress up. I throw on a few necklaces (peals and chains), dozen or so pearl bracelets I made; Knee high boots with suede cord wraps, pearl strands and silver chains wrapped around; layer on black fishnet & lace tank tops under a black velvet corset; black skirt & gold mesh skirt over with jagged hemlines & cinched in places with black silk flowers; topped off with my hair messily pulled up and back using hair pins I made using mid-gauge knitting needles that I glued skulls and ribbons to.

  • Emily J

If I don’t do a couples costume, then I think I will be a 70s Roller Girl. I have black/ orange roller skates, some pink great thigh high tube socks, and a bright pink rhinestone studded bomber jacket.

  • http://profiles.google.com/mandakitty Amanda Barroso

im going to be a glam zombie cat again :)

  • Adriana M.

Yay!! My favorite time of the year :) I’m thinking of somehow incorporating some Sari material that I purchased a couple of years back and doing something in a Bollywood style for Halloween. I just need to get the fabric hemmed, I have pink, blue, green and yellow, so I’m really excited to be very colorful this Halloween :) Thanks Marisa!

  • http://www.shanniloves.blogspot.com/ ShanniLoves…

I have no kids…yet, so my poor Pug Vito gets dressed up every year. I made a pumpkin costume for him since he loves pumpkin. Seriously this dog will not eat his food unless it’s drowning in pure pumpkin.

  • Christina Elias

My husband is a HUGE fan of the Ghostbusters so we were thinking of dressing up as the Ghostbusters (Me and my husband) and then our 18 month old would go as the Slimer or the Marshmellow Man :) Either way i think it is pretty cute. Cant wait to see what your costume is going to be!!!

  • Erin Marquez

I am going as a bumble bee!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1135536117 Mae Frehner Folk

I love a good tease…maybe I will go as my interpretation of that ;-)

  • Dede SB

I have always thought it would be funny to dress up as a whoopie cushion! I might have to worry about people trying to sit on me though….LOL Thank you for the opportunity to enter and win some goodies!

  • Vanessa

My boyfriend and I are huge football fans and have been enjoying the hysterical calls going on recently with the replacement refs in the NFL. Thus we are going as a football player (him) and a replacement ref (me) for Halloween.

  • Pam H

I’ doing a hunger games outfit. A black track suit with an applique that i hope to find online.
And then I’m going ot spray paint a bow and arrow set my nephew has and maybe also some knives and go as a tribute.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tierneyleigh Tierney Pomone

I’m super pumped to create a Boardwalk Empires style flapper dress for Halloween!

  • Cait

I am planning on dressing the family up like the characters from Disney Pixars “Brave”. Even our Boxer is going to get a costume. My husband wants us to go as the Gnomes from “Gnomio and Juliet”, we’ll see who wins.

  • Jasmine Pletnikoff

I am going back and forth between dressing up at Wenda from Where’s Waldo or wearing a blue dress with devil accessories (devil with a blue dress on).

  • Emma G

I’m a big theatre geek, so friends and I are going as sharks and jets from West Side Story :)

  • Amanda Davis

I am a total Halloween freak, just love it! I would like for me & the hubby to dress up as zombie bride & groom but I don’t think he is into it – he always goes back to his staple costume every year – crazy doctor with a bloody brain in his pocket…so boring, lol! :O)

  • http://www.facebook.com/CosplayRandom Bish Lawson

Thrift storing up a Goblin King costume from the Labyrinth with my 6mo old as Toby. She looks just like the baby from the movie! :-)

  • Amy Minster

I am dressing as Velma from Scooby Doo and my son will be a little ghost

  • Maggie

I thought it would be fun to attach barbies to my son’s onsie and call him a chick magnet! He is one! Haha!

  • Noseringirl

I saw an adorable homemade tulle mermaid costume on Pinterest that I am planning to make for my 3 yr old to wear. It’s a surprise and I know she will LOVE it!

  • ROC

I am thinking of going as Flo from the prudential commercial. I love her :)

  • RaeRaggs

Can’t wait to see the full costume! I have acquired several yards of free blue and white gingham so I am tossing around the idea of being Dorothy from OZ this year.

  • http://www.facebook.com/daphne.blake.16 Daphne Blake

Oooo! I want to be the great pumpkin!

  • Jess R

Im probably going classic witch, found this really fun spider head band from michaels :) I love home made costumes! P.S. that makeup totally matches it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=701991291 Laurie Brown

One of my costumes (yes, I really said that) will be Bast, the Egyptian cat goddess- but Victorian style. I’m taking a floor length brown a-line skirt from the thrift store and putting an ecru band around it, about 6″ above the hem, then painting hieroglyphics all around the band, The blouse is an 80′s sheer gold with a few metallic gold strands; I’m turning it backwards and standing the collar up so it’s like a late Victorian shirtwaist and taking the blouse in to reduces it’s hugeidity. Dye an old ‘corset’ gold, wear over blouse. Make Victorian overskirt out of blue curtains. Cat ears over black wig; voila!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1212807028 Tracey Carlson

I haven’t decided what I’m going to be this year,….yet! But I’m dressing my hubby as Gil Grissom from CSI and that’s all done.

  • Taras88

I have no idea what to be this year! Last year I was flo from progressive and my boyfriend was the geico gecko :)

  • Megan

In the past few years my bf and I have always dressed up as the World Series – he collects baseball caps and shirts so we each wear the clothes for one of the teams playing. Not very elaborate but lots of fun :)

  • Jaclyn

My kids are all going as mythical creatures – I’ve got a pink unicorn, a purple mermaid and a blue dragon. (Which reminds me, those costumes won’t make themselves…)

  • Heather

Thinking about a family costume along the Gangnam Style theme.

  • Cathy Pack

I had decided to be Beetlejuice and then my sister decided her Halloween bash would be pirate themed this year. So maybe now Veronica The Red Lady a sixteenth century female pirate. I had a hard time choosing as there are quite a few female pirates in history. I’ll remember to take a photo for you!

  • stephanie

I am going to be Cruella Deville and my son is the grim reaper : ) It’s way too hot for a full fur coat so im making a faux fur capelet : ) Only 5 bucks for materials from Joanns remnant bin. I’m so excited!

  • jlf

i want to try to go as jess from ‘new girl’ ! looking for the black rimmed glasses, flats and a cute dress

  • Shannon

My fiance and I are going as Shaggy and Velma from Scooby Doo! He already dresses like shaggy, and I already have the Velma glasses.

  • Babs

Thanx for the glitter by Krylon suggestion, I have some old shoes to re-do with it. I plan to make my costume from poster board, perhaps a white dress like Marilyn Monroe’s from The Seven Year Itch which I saw on a mime’s video recently. The swap of clothes with friends is an upcoming project, another one of your great ideas!

  • http://www.facebook.com/melissa.p.garland Melissa Planeta Garland

I want to dress the kid up as David Bowie as Starman. At least the onesie will keep him warm. My girlfriend is bringing me a Union Jack dress back from the UK, so I will be THE Spice Girls – dress for Ginger, sneakers for Sporty, hair for Scary, bling for Posh and a lollipop for Baby.

  • huntersprize

I’m not dressing up, but I think I’m going to make an Owl costume for Elise. Since she is only three months, I can get away with that. Jacob is 4 and wants to be Batman and that’s a little much for me to make!

  • Amber

    A Hawaiian dancer.

  • Bethany Amilkavich

Found a fabulous sailor shirt thrifting over the summer that I can’t wait to make into a full on sailor suit for Halloween!

I have taken a stock costume of Lady Marian of red velvet and gold brocade satin and added chains and brooches along with separating the “under skirt” from the “over skirt” and added additional gold satin to make it more flowy. I also changed the head dress from a “crown” to a headband style that stays on a bit better

This year I have no idea what to make her, but after she is in bed, I will be going out as the Bearded Lady, my friend is the Tattoed Lady & (if we have a babysitter) hubby will be the stong man in my freakshow. Hope I can find a two headed chicken!

Hopefully I can find a dress soon (I’ve been scouring the thrift stores, but so far have not had any luck :( – kind of slim pickings here). But I want to find gold, ivory, or white dress/long skirt that I can make into a dress to be Cleopatra.

  • Jacqueline Ambrose

We don’t celebrate Holloween in Malaysia but if we did, I would totally go as Elvira! I love that long flowy black dress……

  • http://www.facebook.com/claire.milner.5 Claire Milner

Most of my sewing is costumes for conventions- I know I could just pick something I already have, but I love to make a new costume every year. I’m not 100 percent sure, but I’m aiming toward being Pinkie Pie, from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

  • Annie

Probably go with an old standby type outfit! Anything I can pull off in less than 5 minutes flat! (princess?)

I’m not sure yet what I want to be but I bought my dog a frankenweenie costume the other day. I am thinking I may go as another character from the movie.

  • RainnKenyon

Was going to go as Grandma Bunny with my Baby Bunny grandson, but I just broke my foot and got a cast on it to day. Might have to sit this one out and pass out candy. Too sad!

We’re letting our 2 year old pick our costumes this year. Right now it seems to be a toss up between a family of monsters and Mickey mouse and friends

  • Ramona

I just lost 148 pounds since last halloween. I am going to go as the sexy bumble bee queen I planned to be this year when I bought the costume on Halloween clearance in a tiny size I never thought I would actually fit into. The joke here is that the original costume I bought is now 3 sizes too big! You know who will be a stiching fool next month

    • Jacqueline in Atlanta

      You rock, Ramona. Great job!

  • Joolie

I was hoping to cinvinve my boyfriend and at least one friend to do a group costume… Pussy Riot! All we need is bright coloured dresses, tights, and balaclavas!

I’ve actually considered throwing together a Honey Boo Boo costume! But I think I’m sticking with the tightrope walker from the painting in the Stretching Room at the Haunted Mansion!

  • rollerkoester

The hubbs will be a real life firefighter at work that night and I’ll probably just dress up as a cowgirl or something simple!

  • Misty

I think I am going to make my son a lego block costume. He is obsessed with legos, and I think it will be a relatively easy costume to make!

  • Laura Whitman

OOO! Can’t wait to see what you wear.

I was going to go as a Greek goddess this year, because I found THEE perfect dress for it, but I’m going to wear it to a fancy event now, and I don’t want to risk getting something spilled on it at the parties. I really need to think about it more.

I thought it would be fun to go as the bird icon from twitter, then I could go around saying “twit or tweet!”

  • Julie P

Our 4 & 7 1/2 year old daughter have convinced my husband and I to go as the “SUPER FAMILY!!!” We will all be wearing capes & masks. Lord help me!

  • Julie B.

I feel like such a dud after seeing how everyone is dressing up, but all I am doing is passing out candy to a few neighborhood kids, so maybe I will get some bunny ears or a witch hat to throw on at least.

  • Leanne

Every year I dress as Michael Jackson from things I find at the thrift store because I teach the Thriller dance to the local community :) But my favorite costume was when I was a teen and I dressed up as an exaggerated Goliath from the Bible story. I wore a gladiator outfit, dressed little G.I. Joes in togas, and wrapped them around my arms and legs as if they were crawling up me, including little David with a slingshot. I tied my hair back, wrapped my chest tight so it looked as flat as a man’s, and painted facial hair, a uni-brow, and a bloody stone on my forehead. I won $100 for best costume!

i think i am going as “environment girl”… my boyfriend’s girls suggested it since i work in the environmental field. never thought i’d don my chest-high waders outside of work, but it seems appropriate!

Ooh, I need some new makeup for sure. Being a mom, I hardly have time to jazz up my makeup routine.
Can I say I have no idea? I will probably pick up something the week before. My baby already has her costume though! So funny. Not too long ago I’d already be obsessing about some cool costume I’d wear to a party.

  • Cupcake

Gotta love Halloween! A group of friends and I will be a group of heroes/villans. I’m thinking of going dark and evil…Call me Blue Venom ;)

  • Jesica

I am not going to dress up but I’m dressing my son as a miniature UPS driver.

  • Val

I am going as Rosie the Riveter! Not super original but I’ve always wanted to dress as her for Halloween

  • Rachel Indigo

I’m going to be the Morton salt girl!

  • AllisonM

I’m still not sure what I’m going to be, but my husband & I have decided that he should be the Colonel from KFC!

  • Lovestosew

I’m going at Vintage Mama, a new super hero I’m creating. I’ve almost finished a puffy, bright red, crinoline. I’m setting my hair in rollers, tonight, and I’m reading up on hair and make up tips from the 1950′s. June Cleaver is my muse.

  • Omma

I’ll be the UT tower, nothin’ sexier than a boxy building!

  • ellebee

I’m going as a totally stressed mom of three boys. That may not be juice in my sippee cup.

  • champagneforyourbrain

I don’t want to recycle my Queen costume again (royalty, not the band), so I was thinking I may go as Rosie the Riveter? I get to run around in a comfortable coveralls all night with my hair tied up. But I wasn’t sure if that was creative enough. Hmm… I need ideas.

  • CourtneyB

My dream costume is Hair Robot from Futurama. I’ve yet to find the time, materials, and inspiration to pull it off, but I consider it every year. One day!

  • Michelle Mulder

My daughter and I are going as Jelly Beans! =)

  • Sandy N.

I haven’t figured out what we’re doing yet. So many choices out there. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  • Katie

I’m going to be a green M&M (homemade costume, though…. not the one you buy in the store!) White pumps, pearls, red lips and all!

  • http://twitter.com/Firefall Vickie Johnson

Monk style robe with hood. Black gloves and a totally black ski mask with holes cut for eyes. pretty creepy, right?

  • http://www.stitchesandsnps.blogspot.com EllenQ

I made a fabulous pumpkin hat last year that I’ll be rocking again this year.

  • Holly

im planning on being lara croft for halloween :)

  • Heather Haagen

    Pink power ranger ftw!

  • Vawn

My little boy is all into the Super Heroes this year, so he’s going to be Spider man. I am still acquiring all I need to be Eva from MGS3, a video game the hubs likes.

  • Elise

My friend and I are going as JFK and Marilyn Monroe, respectively! I have a gorgeous dress that I thrifted last year for $5 and fixed up a bit.

  • Jenna

Mary Poppins, still looking for the bag!

  • Claudia

I’m going to be a flower—I can put balloons around my head (petals!) and wear all green (stem!)!

  • SkyeF

Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas!

  • Jacqueline in Atlanta

Oh, man. People already know what they are going to be? Already? Sheesh. I am usually a witch, but last year I was too good (or bad) a witch and scared off the t-or-t kids, so hmm, what to be this year? I have a fabulous 80s suit with serious ruffling action and shoulder pads all the way to Heaven. Maybe.

  • Rebekah

My kiddos are going to be the cutest girl and boy pirates (all hand-made and my daughter, 8 years old, is going to be a pirate purple princess!) and my middle son is going as green lantern…..because no matter how hard I tried I could not get him to be a cute pirate too :)

  • Joanna

I’ve got a great saloon girl costume!
