25 Days to Go: Rachel’s NDAD Creation

Sep 21, 2012 | 20 Comments

Today’s remake comes from Rachel!!

First, I want to say that I LOVE your blog!  It is always exciting to see what new thing you have recreated.  Following your blog has given me the courage to try my hand at re-fashioning some clothing myself.  This one is my favorite!  A few weeks ago, I bought this interesting pair of shorts (which happen to be quite long) at an estate sale.  I paid 50 cents for the shorts, what a steal!  I loved the floral print and the awesome belt…

…but I wasn’t going to wear these shorts as is.

I’m not a shorts wearer myself, so I’m totally curious to see what Rachel does!!

I cut the fabric right where the two legs met…

Using my vintage Singer, I sewed straight lines on either side…

I love my new skirt! It totally looks like I paid more than two shiny quarters for it!”

Yes it does!  Go shorty, it’s your birthday…totally in honor of the Fitty Cent you paid :)   Now these are a pair of shorts I’d wear!!

Dig the refash and really rig the vintage machine!

    • Lainie

      *dig* oops ;)

  • Diana

GREAT idea! Shorts with all those 80s pleats give LOTS of fabric!

  • rita

Love it! Love the Singer too!

I’m loving ’80s clothes right now, and happily most of the thrift shoppers around me don’t seem to be making the connection, so I’m getting ‘em cheap. Once Marisa taught me the revelation about removing shoulder pads, epaulets, and other wacky features that don’t work right now, the fabrics are splendid!

    Amei!

LOOKS great !!!! love the vintage machine !
Hey Marisa that would be a good contest to see who has the best old vintage machine. I have a Singer feather weight from the 1930′s that still runs like a dream !!!!

I have a very old sewing machine but it doesn’t work. It’s black with gold designs all over it. I keep it for the “look” and is it ever heavy!

That is what I use! It was my grandmother’s high school graduation gift and originally had the foot peddle. My grandfather removed the foot pedal and added an electric motor. Between my mother and I we have 3 sewing machines yet I always go over to her house to use the original one.

The belt makes it especially awesome. I love fabric-matched belts for some reason.

  • Lauraly

    Well done!

  • Sarah_H.

What an awesome, modern looking skirt! I love it!

  • diane2809

And no-one has mentioned the great pockets that shorts have but skirts (ordinarily) wouldn’t!
