69 Days to Go: Diane’s NDAD Creation

Aug 12, 2012 | 22 Comments

It was meant to be, featuring Diane’s remake today. Here’s why…

A – I was talking about Las Vegas with some friends this weekend where the Luxor came up in conversation.

B, I jetted past a Chevron selling $20 Egyptian cotton 800-1200 thread count sheets (yes, at a gas station – anyone else privy to this phenomenon?)

Curbside Bed Bath & Beyond!

So, as you will shortly see, Diane’s dress was somehow planting these subliminal messages to be used this weekend :)

I cracked up when I saw this $2.00 Egyptian print dress in the thrift store and after reading your blog I knew that I could make it cute with a few revisions!

Diane – Before

See what I mean?!?

So I bought the dress from the astonished clerk (who thought no one would ever buy it), took it home and started cutting!

Where are the pyramids?

I removed the sleeves, adjusted the seams to make the dress fit more flattering, cut off 11 inches from the bottom, and finished the hem.  I styled it with my black scarf as a belt and will wear it with a black shrug (if it’s too cool out) and with my gold sandals, of course!

Cute summery dress D!  Would love to see a pic of your wearing it!!  PS, the use of your sequined scarf-as-belt rules.  Way to go!!

Lovely, would have liked to have seen it on.

The only things I’ve seen sold at gas stations around here are velvet paintings. :)

    • Carol

Wow, haven’t seen velvet paintings in at lest 15 years. They’re considered collectible kitch in the L.A. area. LOL

    • newdressaday

Ooh velvet paintings… this could be a fun post, people shooting their fave gast station finds!!

  • Amy

Alright, that is, without a doubt, the most awesome dress I’ve seen here so far! Love that after! (My second fave was the mint green dress from a few days ago.) :)

If those are the “Egyptian cotton” sheets I’m thinking of,  you need to read the package carefully.  It says “the comfort of” in small letters, and “Egyptian cotton” in large letters.  They are not only not Egyptian, they are not cotton.  They are microfiber.  And if they’re the ones I’m thinking of, they are cut too big for the bed, so the bottom sheet doesn’t pull tight.  They are a mess of wrinkles which, because they’re microfiber and have no “body”, stick to your limbs and wrap you in steam.

      Thanks for the warning!

In my neck of the woods, gas stations are selling rugs and sheets.  I asked my husband just the other day, who would buy sheets at a gas station??!
Love the small print/large print comment :-) from Silk.

Cute remake, Diane. Looks nice and cool for summer, but a good color for fall also.

Adorable! Gold sandles would rock, as would the roman style! Great redo!
