70 Days to Go: Maureen’s NDAD Creation

Aug 11, 2012 | 19 Comments

I’m such a TV/movie girl that when I saw Maureen’s creation I flipped.  I love my Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose tee (FNL fans unite!!) and was obsessed with today’s piece just for my love of the movie she referenced.  Check it out…

I got this camisole at Target and it even though it wasn’t incredibly cheap it was a worthwhile purchase, especially being someone with VERY few summer clothes.  It seemed pretty bland though, just being plain grey and all.

New Dress A Day - DIY - Target Camisole

Maureen – Before

Where’s Maureen going with this??

Being a geek, when I think camis, I think “ELLEN RIPLEY!” (from the Alien movies).

Ripley!!!

Ripley!!!

I doubt anyone else has this knee-jerk reaction, but I felt that a Weyland Yutani logo would go nicely.

(I totally remember her wearing that white tank!!)

I first printed out a vectorized version of the logo, minus the words.

Weyland-Yutani Stencil!!!

Next, I created a stencil using a razor blade and a self-healing mat.

Apply stencil!

I added a dash of acrylic paint…

Let her dry!

…let it dry, then BOOM!

Maureen – After

It’s not quite Ellen Ripley, but fun geek-chic DIY/sprucing up.  (Sorry about the bad mirror picture!)

I love this Maureen and I think it’s total Ripley!  I love me some Alien too.  I wanted to be Newt when I was a kid.  Oh the memories..

That MUST have been a misprint on Rene’s part.  I think you’re/it’s great.

Maureen let her creative juices flow…I see a whole slew of people who found it inspiring Rene :)   To each their own, I guess.

One of my favorite shirts from my club-kid days involved a picture of Calvin (from Calvin & Hobbes) thumbing his nose, which I put on a shirt using a very similar process!

    • newdressaday

      Ha, love that Jody!!

  • Giniamagers

I could actually do this! And I have one of the blue mats for quilting and I had never thought of making my own stencil. Thank you for the good idea!

    • newdressaday

      Do it!!  Create away!!

  • Lindasews

    Good one, Maureen. Totally.

  • Stephanie

The way in wich I find this inspiring (as it does not fit my personal style) is that Rene showed up a new, and SUPER simple way to recreate your clothes, and without even having to break out any sewing materials! I bet even Rene could use this method to upcycle something of her own. Painting directly onto clothes using stencils is brilliant, thanx Maureen!

  • Stephanie

WHOOPS, I meant MAUREEN showed us a new method. Obviously Rene showed nothing but cattiness.
