73 Days to Go: Wednesday Giveaway!

Aug 8, 2012 | 72 Comments

Happy Wednesday!  Nothing like a little mid-week giveaway in my book!  I’ve been super behind with giveaway winners, so drum roll please…  Congrats to Erinsmith14 (Je t’adore compact), MrsWrenches (vintage clutch/vintage pattern), and Debbie (beaded earrings/Nivea gloss).

I’ve been working like a busy bee and enjoying some Olympics in the background since I returned from NC – totally addicted to everything and am getting sad that it’s finishing up this week.

To win today’s little batch of goodies – a Sula lipgloss, a rhinestoned box, and a pair of gorg nautical/rope-esque studs – leave a comment below with your favorite Olympics moment of this year, year’s past, or something fab and made up if you’re not into the Olympics :)   Like when Ro Ro McAdidas scored 100 goals in women’s soccer in ’96.  ‘Memba?? :)

New Dress A Day - DIY - Giveaway - Earrings - Sula Gloss - Rhinestone Box

Win Me!!

I don’t think I just have one, but…I’ve loved seeing Missy Franklin win just because she’s so grounded and awesome – I not so secretly want to be BFFs with her and sing ‘Call Me Maybe’.  I was obsessed with the Netherlands Zonderland who rocked the high bar last night like a boss, and think Jennifer Suhr winning the pole vault was pretty incredible.  I just love watching the back stories of all the athletes too which totally suck me in.  And when I say suck me in, I mean bawl my eyes out!

Leave a comment below and a random winner will be picked next Wednesday, 8/14!!

  • Kayla

gabby douglas and missy franklin winning and being so humble about it

  • Jen Valentine

I remember back in 84 (showing my age) watching Mary Lou Retton get a perfect 10 on the vault.  She was so excited by her score, she did it a second time just to make sure.  This year, I’m obsessed with women’s volleyball.

  • Bookworm2many

Watching Oksana Baiul win a gold medal in figure skating. She had no family and I was amazed at her focus and grace.

  • rollerkoester087

OT in the US women’s soccer game on Monday. Amazing! Can’t wait to see how they play in their next game!

  • Jennifer

Maybe Evan Lysacek in Vancouver?  Though catching the Women’s Trampoline this year was incredible.

  • a_jay30

I absolutely love synchronized swimming.  I’m sad that there’s no US team this year, but the US duet’s homage to the Olympic games was great.  Keep in mind I can’t swim a lick, and I’m terrified of drowning, but my “inner swimmer” can do flips and tricks with the best of them :-)

  • Mary

I love watching Gabby Douglas- Maybe it’s because she’s been training in Iowa- and calls Iowa her home for the past several years- but I really like her because of her talent, and because all my life I’ve wanted to be flexible like that-

  • LD Siess

I’m a sucker for anyone on the winner’s podium, singing (or moving their lips to) their national anthem, cheeks flushing, eyes bright, maybe a tear sliding down – and big smile! I like the parade of athletes, too, when they come into the stadium country by country. . . so proud, and so excited!

  • Tami

I was thrilled to see the double amputee run in the heats, and sad that he didn’t make it to the medal round…was kind of bummed when I saw the Nike swoosh on his blade, but hey, they all do it, right?  :)

  • Jess R

Any time the US wins GOLD!!!!! (or any other shiny medal)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=714924743 Kelly Cary Davis

So my favorite moment is related to any of the events.  My favorite moment was in 1996 finding out that my future-in-laws and my mom’s cousin (who played for the US men’s soccer team that year) were all safe and none of them had been at Centennial Park during the bombing.

  • purple unicorn

My favorite moment was when ryan lochte and missy franklin hugged behingd the scenes….. ahhhhhhhhh!

  • ROC

I loved watching Pistorius!!  Such an amazing story about perseverance.  I also loved watching the swimming events.  Missy Franklin…Ah-Mazing!!!

This box is just awesome! It reminds me of little jeweled boxes I would see in Mexico as a kid! And I’d like to take this chance to tell you how awesome this blog is….duh…you know this. But as a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s my mother had me in sewing classes so I learned young. Although I didn’t LOVE it then….I take pride in my 1957 sewing machine built into it’s table and my boxes of scraps that I know how to sew. Curtains and purses and bags from scraps has been my therapy!

  • Kathy Carvalho

It is a bitter sweet moment, when Nancy Karragen went on to win silver after being injured by Tanya Hardings bullies. Oh, I wish she took the GOLD!!!

  • EBeautySue

Me, me, pick me!  I love winning stuff :)

My favorite moment hasn’t happened on the big screen, but might someday!!  My son does Tae Kwon Do and those compititions start today.  He has been so excited waiting for them to start.  He hopes to one day represent the USA at the Olympics in this sport!

  • Laura

I’m not really into the Olympics, but watching them this past week with some great staff people while I was volunteering at a camp, sure was great. Also, when we were watching the women’s volleyball, I was secretly cheering for the Dominican team, just because I miss it so much. Turns out this really cute guy was too, because he lived there for a while.  :P

    xoxo,
    Laura

  • Dana Banana

Warms my heart to see the athletes support each other.  Borders are melted away and we are members of one big blue planet when athletes run to assist a fallen competitor!!  Go team earth!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=765730216 Judy Pariser Scharf

I love to see how fast the runners can go!

  • http://profiles.google.com/mrscomfortable Lauren Lamoreaux

Definitely fave Olympic moment: Michael Phelps’ last swim and gold medal. :)

  • Strunkette

I truly love it all but my two favorites would be Gabby winning all around and watching May-Treanor/Walsh Jennings kick ass for the 3rd year in a row in beach volleyball. I hope they win GOLD!

Oh, and all the swimming was awesome especially Missy Franklin and the older guy who won bronze in backstroke.

  • Julie Smith

I LOVE the olympics!  My favorite from last winter olympics was when Evan Lysacek (sp?) won the gold in men’s figure skating!  And this year’s swimmers… love Missy Franklin, love Michael Phelps, love the girl who does breast stroke, can’t remember her name.

  • Vivettesdance

I haven’t seen much this year, but did catch the gymnastics. I am in awe of the men’s strength on the rings, and love watching the girls (hard to say women this year!); they are just all so amazing.

  • ~gloria

Sprinter, Usain Bolt (great name for a runner!!), stopped his interview so that he could show respect for American anthem which was playing at the moment in an award’s ceremony.  Very classy Mr. Bolt.
    Love the giveaway stuff today!

  • Maria_eads

It was sweet when Phelps became the most decorated Olympian ever

  • Haley

When Berndon Hanson beat Kitajima in the breaststroke. I’m a swimmer, and i was glued to the tv for a week – and that was definitaly one of my fave moments!

  • Gamarho

Can’t wait to see the book!

  • SEPost

I am an avid fan of the Olympics and watch them every time, winter or summer, no matter!!  This London Olympics, I have been particularly impressed with track & field, specifically Oscar Pistoris of South Africa, who is a double amputee and runs with cheetah like prosthetics. We saw his quarter final match and he was awesome!  To run and compete against able bodied men not only shows courage and strength, but an iron will to succeed. That was my favorite moment and for me embodied the spirit of the Olympic games.

  • http://www.wom-mom.com/ Wom Mom Ethne

Zonderland really killed that high bar last night – awesome.  I probably have 2 fave moments of all time – Kerri Strug’s one-foot landing on the vault in ’96 and Michael Phelps’ nanosecond victory in the race (200/100 butterfly?) in Beijing.  Genius.  Then a bazillion others.

  • Cinak630

Mark Spitz winning his gold medals. He was hot back in the day. which kind of ages me i guess! :)

    • DinaB

I used to have a Mark Spitz Poster!!! I’m right there with ya :~)

  • Lauren E.

My fav thing in the Olympics is definitely gymnastics!

  • Brightening_soul

There was so many awesome moments this year, I loved watching gymnastics, synchoronizied diving and swimming, and track and field.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/KEOXFOCRFNOGE75OB6MBBRM6QE Maggie

I am loving all the gymnastics and especially LOVED when Aly won gold last night!!!

  • Glbandmom4

    Mr. Bean!

  • Btejkl

    Women’s soccer. Go USA

  • mmisko

My favorite was when the USA Women’s Gymnastics team won the AA gold. They just looked so happy! They earned it!

  • Harmony

I love swimming!  Really enjoyed watching Missy Franklin this year.  My favorite though are Kerri Walsh and Misty May.  Can’t wait to see the big game tonight!!!

  • Giniamagers

Swimming! I love swimming & water sports of any kind (see I really need the nautical earrings!)

  • Littleandi3

the opening ceremony and watching table tennis/regular tennis, it’s so fun to watch them chase after the balls, and who knew ping pong could be that intense :)

  • Storyteller Mary

I’m amused by the whole hair controversy — I don’t remember any males being criticized for hair choices . . .  and I love the opening drama and stories . . .
    (and your necklace ;-)

  • RunningLaur

I had a few college friends competing for the first time this year, and it’s been incredible to see them achieve their goals that they’ve put so much hard work into!

  • Mndjoy

I don’t have any really Olympic memories. I am begging you though, to stop taking the giveaway photos and using Instagram or whatever. I can’t tell what the stuff is supposed to look like half of the time.

  • Annie K

Oh man, there have been so many memorable moments, but my fave so far was when Gabby Douglas won the all-around Gold. So exciting, and she is just so endearing!! Loved what she said after she won too- great attitude..

  • swimmer chick

In 2008 when Michael Phelps won the 100 fly by one one-hundredth. I still get chills watching the video. (:

  • http://thriftygirl51.blogspot.com/ Dawn

I haven’t watched this year but my favorite was waaayyy back when Nadia Comaneche competed, my family all sat around the TV and watched, she was really, really great and so young.

  • Katie Evans

    I didn’t even watch!

  • Rebekah

My all time favorite Olympics moment was the famous Kerri Strug moment in 1996. I was 16 years old and when she landed that vault on a broken ankle and got a perfect 10 score, I about peed my pants. I will never forget that!!!!!

  • DinaB

It has been extra special watching Ryan Lockte (swimming) compete and win because he was born in my hometown! One of my best friends lives in the house that he once lived in. It was pretty special to know that I swim in the pool where he first fell in at the age of 3 and fell in love with swimming!
Abbie Wombach (soccar) lives close also, and one of my neighbors teaches Abbies nephew.
Meghan Musnicki from the womens crew team (rowing) is from Naples which is the next town over to the South!
Pole Vaulting Gold Metalist Jenn Suhr is from Riga and that is about 30 miles to the North.
Looking forward to womens beach volleyball tonight too!!! Go USA

  • Carol

I loved how Ali was so dead on last night with the floor routine. Also Cabby winning the all around. Actually, I loved our girls gymnastics team. They seem like a great group of girls. Agree with you on Zonderland. He also was dead on his routine.  And nice for the Netherlands to win for a change.  ( I’m Dutch so I’m biased)

  • NGS

It’s possible I asked if I could be from the Netherlands when that guy won on the high bar last night. He was absolutely amazing!!

  • Yannie

I am a big fan of Missy too. I also love watching the beach volleyball. Ross and Kessy are so good.

  • ChickpeaG

I agree with you Zonderland winning the gold on High Bar!  I get so nervous watching that event, because the bar is so thin.  But Zonderland nailed it, and he is such a cutie!  My favorite moments of Olympics past definitely include the U.S. women winning gold in the gymnastics in ’96 and also watching Jonny Moseley in skiing in ’98.

  • Lizzie Mo

My fave moment was in 96 Atlanta games, I was a 14 year old girl watching the Fab 7 and when Kerri Strug landed that painful vault and won gold for the US.  My arms flew up like I had just landed and I was jumping up in down in my room trying not to wake my parents.

  • Maureen

Love the focus on women not only for the U.S., but the odds women face just to be allowed to compete! Saudia Arabia allowing a woman to compete for the first time!

  • Sally B.

Australian speed-skating champion – Unfortunately I don’t remember what year those particular winter Olympics were one, but this event was memorable. Imagine that there is the line up for the speed skating final, all the male athletes with their one piece lycra suits and very special speed skates all ready to find out who wins the medals. The Australian is considered a wild card entry and consequently no one thinks he stands a chance of winning.

The signal sounds! The racers are off and gliding rapidly across the glassy ice, as each person jockeys for the first place, with the Aussie falling a bit behind. Then, a mere 200 metres out from the finish line, catastrophe! The lead skaters falls and consequently everyone else topples over him. Fortunately Steven Bradbury has enough distance from the pack that he safely avoid the pile of people and collects his well earned medal. Consequently he has got the expression ‘doing a Bradbury’ – or earning your place in the top ranks and by fluke winning – named after him.

  • Sue

One of my favorite older memories is when Torvill and Dean skated to Bolero. It was a powerful performance.

Any time Evan Lysacek skates, the wonderful Gabby Douglas and the inspiring Oscar Pistorius.Plus way too many more.

  • Lovestosew

Every participating country, this year, has at least on woman athlete.  Now that’s huge!

  • Sewfun53-shopper

LOVED watching the women’s indoor volleyball……great  action. Also loved Gabby gettin All Around Gold. The women’s beach volleyball was fun too. And so many women….awesome. I really wanted to see the VERY pregnant woman from the Middle East shoot, but never saw it. Very awesome thing to do.

  • Courtney B

I agree with Sue, Oscar Pistorius is amazing! I also get way too invested in synchronized diving. And team cycling is just insane to watch.

  • Cre8ivgrl

I am heavily addicted to the olympics- my favorite & reason for my addiction- Natalie Comanche! I remember as a little girl watching the movie and then researching everything I could on her & gymnastics! Since then I’ve loved watching not only the women’s gymnasts, but ice skaters, beach volleyball players, us soccer team, judo, hell last night I was up to 2 watching the wonen’s dmx trials- what is not to love! And a HUGE shout out to all the femalesshowing the men how it’s done!

  • Emily

I loved watching Gabby Douglas win the all-around gymnastics gold. What an amazing talent.

  • Allisonm6176

I agree with Emily! Watching Gabby Douglas win the all-around was pretty awesome! I also enjoyed watching Kirani James win Grenada’s first EVER gold medal in the men’s 400!

  • http://www.facebook.com/elisabeth.good1 Elisabeth Good

Gabby Douglas stole my heart this year! :)

  • Jess Humphrey

I loved watching the end of the marathon.   The dedication is takes to run 26.2 miles with such an amazing pace just blows me away!

  • megs

US women’s soccer beating Japan for the gold. totally redeemed themselves after the loss in the last World Cup

  • Katharina

If you ship to Brazil, I’m really hoping to get this one… Love the blog, of course.
    XOXO

  • paprikati

Here’s one nobody else will mention: little Hungary winning the Gold for fencing this year! Did my Hungarian heart proud! My American side was doing backflips for Gabby all the way.

  • Megan L

I loved Usain Bolt winning the 100-meter dash in 9.6 seconds.  We busted out a pencil and paper to do the math and calculated that he had to be going more than 21 miles per hour!!

  • kerrit_00

I’ve got a soft spot for Jamaica, so seeing the Jamaican men sweep the 200m the other night was a really good moment- but I think my favorite was when the guy who won Oscar Pistorius’ race switched nametags with him (Oscar). Talk about making me cry!

  • Tsquared2012

I loved how Cool Runnings was based on a true story about the Jamaican Bobsled team vying for the Olympic medals!
