91 Days to Go: Sarah T’s NDAD Creation

Jul 21, 2012 | 16 Comments

Today’s remake comes from my So Cal sista Sarah T!!  I not only loved what she did, but I’m obsessed with her hair.  I’m having some “I want to dye the ends of my hair” feelings and this is just adding to my hair change cravings!

I bought this awesome dress from the 70s at a store called Lost & Found here in Orange, CA (we’re not too far from each other!).  It was on the clearance rack for $10, which is less than I usually expect to pay for a good retro dress. I fell in love with the fabric and the pleats in the front, but the bust didn’t fit well…

I’m totally digging this fabric!!  Here, check it out closer…

What did Sarah T do??

I turned it into a skirt!  I just sliced it up, ripped out the zipper, finished up that seam, and made an elastic waist.  This is something I do a lot with dresses, as I have trouble with fit in my bust area – I don’t let it stop me! :)

I love your blog, keep up the awesome work. Sorry for the terrible photo booth pics, I was too excited to take better ones!

I think this turned out awesome Sarah!  From no fit, to new skirt that works with tees and tanks!  I think that this will look fabulous in the fall/winter paired with some opaque tights and boots too!!  Keep it up my local lass, S!!

I love this! I also have a difficult to fit bust and will definitely be stealing this idea!

  • Kissem37

Fantastic! I can see why you fell for that fabric- its amazing! I’ll keep this in my arsenal- bust fit is my issue, too :/
    Loving the hair, too!

  • Carol

Good eye for a beautiful “flower-power” print, Sarah; and many would be envious of your bust issues! So show off the curves! Am seeing lots of flowers and designs on women’s & little girls’ knit shirts/jackets that are just narrow strips of fabric sewn down in patterns and left raised with raw edges. Your skirt looks great with a white tee, but wouldn’t it be a cute outfit with some well-placed flowers from your left-overs on a dark tank/tee?….my mind is never at rest!…and I love the hair!

Great job, Sarah! You have got an eye for color and prints.

I love this skirt. I like Carol’s idea of using the leftover top to zchuz up a shirt. Or, you could make a hair accessory to highlight your cool hair. I’m loving the ideas I get from all of you:)

Skirt is cute, but I also would have just tried turning the dress around like Marisa does, and then make it more open in the front, with a black or fuchsia tank underneath.

I really like the fabric too, a really nice print. Good job.   I think it would look really nice with a longer  black long sleeve top belted with boots. (in the cooler months of course ; )

    Love the fabric, great job!

    That material is awesome!

I was thinking of an apron dress.  A bit disappointed.

  • Natchez

LOVE the fabric!  What a fun skirt!  Good job!

As someone born before the 70s, I love this print. Love, love, love the redo.
