120 Days to Go: Jewelry Craft Party!

Jun 22, 2012 | 10 Comments

For today’s post, I had a little craft day with my gal Sonya Nimri at her awesome home studio.  More of those pics will come later.  We wanted to make some jewelry, so we started off with metal piping we picked up at the hardware store, cut/sanded into lengths we liked, and went crazy with the neon yellow and pink paint!

Our makeshift beads turned out looking like this…

Neon Beads!

With our beads all dry, we started thinking about the pattern we wanted to make for our pieces.  We liked the idea of a ladder necklace, so we took about five beads each, an equal amount of headpins, and chain long enough to fit over our heads so we wouldn’t need clasps.

We took our bead, put the headpin inside, crimped the pin end into the chain, and then looped the other end through the chain and back through the bead.

We continued this process until we had all five beads attached to our chain.

When we were finished, our necklaces looked a bit like this…

What an easy and chic way to incorporate neon colors into your wardrobe without going crazy!!

I had on my favorite H&M leopard print jersey dress and added my new necklace for a bit of flair!!

New Necklace Wearing Time!

It came out looking amazing – a little handmade/trendy piece to add into the wardrobe.  For just a couple of bucks and some elbow grease (sanding the edges of the beads) I have a new necklace that rivals anything currently in stores.

It’s always the best having crafty dates with friends – I have a few more projects we finished that will appear soon!!  Stay tuned and happy Friday!!

I love it. I make alot of my own jewelry and earrings for my husband’s mom. This is a great idea for some gorgeous glass tube beads that had me stumped. Thank you for reminding us how much fun it is to make our own!

    • newdressaday

Definitely!  Even this was a reminder to me to sort through all my glass beads too – can’t wait to craft some more!!

Love this, so fun but also chic and current. If I didn’t have so many sewing projects and two toddlers, I’d copycat this stat! : )

  • Boatgirl

This project is fun, trendy, and so cute! You’re so clever, Marisa, and constantly inspire me to get off my behind and create something wonderful instead of just sitting here thinking about it. Keep those great dresses and projects coming!

    • newdressaday

That makes me so happy :) Thanks lady!

  • Tollyfaye

Super cute! I haven’t really been embracing Neon’s this go around, but thats the perfect amount. And LOVE that dress!!

    • newdressaday

I’m feeling the same way with the neon…this is just the right amount though to pack a little bit of a punch instead of going overboard :)   This dress is amazing – it feels like pajamas, but looks super chic!

Cool!  Love how the necklace turned out!

  • Sonya Nimri

So much fun crafting with you Marisa! I have the shoes I need to send a photo of too. They turned out super-fab!
