179 Days to Go: $1 Remake

Apr 22, 2012 | 41 Comments

I simply couldn’t resist this piece when I found it a little while back for a buck at the local pile sale.

(Little sidenote…in case you’re wondering, I shot a whole lotta pieces at the old house before my parents left.  Tried to stock up before I find my new ‘before’ location which is currently being scouted :)

I was completely addicted to the colors and the fun print, and it fit!!

New Dress A Day - $1 Remake - Vintage Dress

Day 179 - Before

I wasn’t into the length but I thought with one easy change this would become my new favorite pre-summer dress.

I turned the dress inside out and began to trim across the bottom taking off about a foot of fabric.

Inside Out!

I cannot wait to use this excess fabric somewhere else!!  Just mulling some ideas in my head as we speak!

The Excess!!!

I pinned the bottom for a new hem…

Almost sewn!

This was such an EASY fix.  One tweak and it’s a new summery dress for a day in the sun!

Happy Saturday!

It felt glorious outside today so I made the most of the afternoon…

Day 179 - After

…including spending some time at Pottery Barn Kids in their Star Wars section with mini, non-Marisa-sized, tables for coloring.

Channeling my inner toddler

So what if I was coloring in R2D2 and Han Solo with Crayola’s Forest Green crayon by myself.  I went in to get a gift and got stuck in the crafty section.  I obviously had no shame in my activity and not-so-secretly would have stayed there longer if I didn’t have 12 more errands to check off my to-do list.  I’ll be back.  (Wrong movie, I know, but “may the force be with you” just didn’t work as a close.)

You could do a really cute handbag with the excess.

  • Chrystalgypsey

WOW!  At the perfect length, that dress is lovely on you!  I love how it flares out like an A-line style.  It’s amazing what shortening a dress can do!

  • http://www.facebook.com/torresongs Johnnie Torres

The high waistline and new higher hem made this so groovy!  Very Cute!  The fabric’s texture looks like a seersucker type fabric.  Would make really cute kitchen curtains, potholders, or maybe the trim on some kitchen towels.
