Week 13: Cold Season

I’ve gone straight through an entire box of Kleenex Puffs Plus (my nose is still raw and red) and am onto box two at the moment dealing with a crap cold that began Monday!

Dear Nose, You are not my friend today. Very best, Marisa

Dear Nose, You are not my friend today. Very best, Marisa

Can’t tell if it’s partially due to allergies from the weird weather, or if I just had been downplaying not feeling well when I was legit not feeling well?  Regardless, it just hit like a ton of very heavy dumbbells.  I’m hoping to come around in a day or so and if I’m still stuck in bed, I’ll have to knit or hand sew something.

It’s water, hot tea, naps, vitamins, more naps, and oranges on the agenda…ugh, so not fun sleeping in a sea of crumbled tissues.  Hope all of you are feeling much better than I am right now.  More to follow…

I’m so sorry you have a cold! If it helps…I bit my lip earlier and now for some reason it’s swollen – like is there a football nestled in half your lip kind of swollen – and I can’t sleep…I’m also going out in public in the afternoon to get my hair done. Hope that might’ve brought a little laugh to you, seeing my face makes me laugh at myself =]

Oh jeez!!  I know exactly what you’re talking about.  I’m so sorry!!  Thank you for bringing a smile to my face – not laughing at you, laughing with you.  Then coughing, then laughing again :)

I find that some local wildflower honey helps with allergies. The honey will also help coat your throat.  Take a teaspoon a day (on a spoon or in your beverage of choice:)  That has helped me a lot in the past!  Hope you feel better real soon!

    Hope you feel better soon!

Love the pic and the message. Even when you don’t feel good you have a great sense of humor. Hang in there, I’d send you some vertual soup if  I knew how.

    • New Dress A Day

Dina, that virtual soup tastes soooo good!! Thank you :)

  • Yellowbutterfly1979

Awe, feel better soon. Don’t forget the chicken soup.

  • Amanda Davis

    Feel better soon!

My hubby had it all last week & is still working on it this week too!  Horrible!  I make roasted garlic soup to help that is so yummy & easy – roast 2 heads of garlic, heat up chicken stock, put roasted garlic in stock & process until smooth and blended…you can slice up some garlic & toast or broil it for a few mins for some croutons too – yummy!

    • Bob21622

A friend of mine (Jamison) made that ne time for me. It was amazing!

Im SO SORRY, Sunshine. We are dealing with a horrible season of Cedar Fever (cedar trees sending out their spores), here in Austin, TX. We know EXACTLY how you feel (itchy eyes/ears, sneezing, raw noses from endless sneezing, etc.) I hope you are better VERY SOON!! :)

    • New Dress A Day

Thank you :)   I gots the Cedar Fever!!

  • Becks

Try using cloth hankies rather than paper tissues.  They are much kinder to the nose.  Feel better!

  • Julie

Hope you feel better real soon!

  • dosfashionistas

Get better soon! I made chicken mulligatawny soup last night. Wish I could send you some over the computer. It was peppery enough to open your nose, I guarantee….two tablespoons of curry powder and a can of chopped green chilis.

Wow, that sounds amazing.  I just looked up a recipe – yum!  I’m coming to your house when I’m feeling better :)   I’m sticking to basic Campbell’s soup right now…

  • Tori

I am also sick. We were supposed to drive from our home in Indiana to Virginia to meet our 3 week old niece and now we can’t go. Very disheartening. Hope we both feel better soon!

  • Jenni S.

So sorry you are sick!  : (  Your blog was a ray of sunshine when I had a bug a few weeks ago.  Have you taken Emergen-C?  I teach so I live on those to not catch everything my students bring in.   I hope you feel better soon!

    • Anonymous

Just taking all kinds of vitamins right now – I should have taken Emergen-C when I thought I was fine and I really wasn’t…  Thanks so much!

  • Linda H.

Hope you feel better soon!  Take care of yourself!!  Aren’t Puffs the BEST?

  • Collette

I think it is because the weather won’t settle one way or the other.  More things than usual in the air.  I hope you feel better soon.

This sounds really gross and it doesn’t smell great (but that won’t matter if you are all stuffed up anyway)… but, use petroleum jelly on your nose where it gets red and sore. It creates a moisture barrier keeping the skin moist, but keeping the “runny nose stuff” off the skin. It really, really works. It’s SUCH a relief. :) I hope you feel better soon.

I live for Vaseline!  Such a good call – getting a friend to do a Rite-Aid run as we speak. Thanks Michele!!

Hey Marisa, if your throat is sore or your stomach is upset, try ginger. Reed’s has great ginger ale and ginger chews. Also Chimes and The Ginger People have ginger chews. Very yummy and good for you, too. Feel better soon!

    • New Dress A Day

Thank you!  I actually made some orange and ginger juice today with my juicer.  It stung a little because of how raw my throat is from hacking, but I’m hoping will do the trick.

Flannel hankies are even easier on the nose than puffs plus… and they’re eco friendly!

  • Pratima

  • Zouzous_petals

Hope you feel better soon!  I always take Thera-flu apple flavor whenever I feel crappy…..It is just soothing and knocks me out whether I have the flu or allergies.  If I feel under the weather I Thera-flu it.

  • Debjdarby

I hope today you’re feeling much better! I received my wine prize today. Thank you, I LOVE it! especially the bottle stopper.

  • yajaira

I feel the same way, but I had to come into work…so there are crumbled tissues all over my desk and a huge thing of hand sanitizer next to me…  i dont know if i should buy allergy medicine or cold medicine… maybe both!!!!

  • Lauraly

Marisa…feel better. Some soup, tea, reading, your fav jammies, pillow and blanket, and your fav sitcom reruns are prescribed! Or some rom coms! “if I knew your address, I would send you a bouquet of sharpened pencils”….name the movie!

  • Maureen

Hope all your suggestions along w/ rest has helped you on the road to recovery!
I know anymore when I get a cold I am in a bear of a *&^%* mood and it’s best I hibernate when sick!

Hope you are feeling better.  I have the same thing, started about the same time.  It is kind of funny because it seems like it is hitting adults and little ones but not school aged children.  I’ve also seen people from across the country with it!
