Day 179. 186 days and $183 left to go.
Happy Humpday!! This one happens to be of my favorites because it falls in a week holding a three-day weekend!! Woo hoo! Just another step closer to Memorial Day which is the unofficial/official kickoff to the summer, right? This gal couldn’t be happier. Beach, here I come!!
This dress was Frumpy McFrumperstein when I came across it. I loved the black/pink blend, along with the pleated skirt but there was just no shape. My first step was taking in the top. I pinned down the areas that I was going to stitch over…
…and then did the same with the waist and skirt. I plugged in my sewing machine and got to making some new hems! I then took the extra fabric that I cut off and created a little belt to wear around my waist.
I cut a rectangle in the pleated fabric and then attached two strips of the smoother fabric from the top of the dress on each side as the ties. Quick, makeshift belt action? Why yes. And now my dress is complete.
And, I was totally reminded of two lovely dresses I came across at Urban Outfitters…
This one has a super similar floral pattern and color scheme ($48 @ Urban)
& this one has the overall shape. ($78 @ Urban)
I have to say, the neck and slight cap-ness of the sleeves on this one are super similar. See…
I would have hands down, tried both of these on during one of my Urban stops. Urban happens to be three short blocks away and conveniently enough it’s located across the street from “my” Starbucks. Tend to frequent the spot often for inspiration and iced coffees
Luckily today, I can skate away feeling that my version came pretty close to these puppies and I only spent un dólar!!
Weekend is within arm’s reach. I can already smell the bbq’s.
Day 178. 187 days and $184 left togo.
The muumuu is back!! I know you were all waiting for its’ return
A little comfy muumuu action, some bball, and Glee are the only things on my agenda. Didn’t realize how much off sched I was from staying up way past my bedtime Losting on Sunday night. I’m still catching up on veg/sleep/naps from the “I can count on my one hand how much I slept before my alarm went off and it’s not higher than three” evening. Yesterday I was a zombie with caffeine overload, so this was the perfect outfit to lay low and recover. I had a date with my couch tonight and literally nothing sounded better.
So red was on the clearly on the mind today as those Vocal Adrenaline-ers on GLEE were all about it too.
Loved the Gaga inspiration and that they copied her red chantilly lace get up from the MTV Video Music Awards.
No lace for me today, but the red in full force. It’s more like Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La. Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La.
The length was the first part to go…
Trimmed off about seven inches of length and gave the p-p-p-puppy, p-p-puppy a new hem.
Now there was already a lovely hole found on the seam underneath the arms, so I just decided to go with it. Off with the sleeves!!
After they were gone, I pinned down all the new raw edges and sewed them in place.
This one today got turned into a chic shoulderless number that perhaps Lady Gaga would have been proud of.
She’d however demand that I cover my head in an iceberg,
some sort of metallic orb,
or a silver lobster.
Now sing with me! Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La. Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La.
Day 177. 188 days and $185 left togo.
The first day back post-LOST Week, and I’m still trying to get my bearings. Was looking at a potential camouflage dress for today and then decided to go with something as girly as possible instead. I grabbed something in the sheer and lacy department that looked like it could have gone on top of a petticoat.
It also could have also been Venus Williams’ other French Open ensemble as she was going the lacy and sheer route too this weekend.
The only difference was that I was not planning/trying/anticipating/thinking of going out in public wearing the green sheerness with a nude cami underneath.
First plan of attack was bringing the top in a bit on each side. It was a bit too large and flowy even for my tastes
After taking the sides in, the loosening of the neck came next. It was a bit tight and super fitted and I definitely needed some breathing room…
…especially if I was going to be wearing a tank underneath for proper coverage (yes, I get you were going with the French/Moulin Rouge vibe because you’re playing in France Venus, however quel dommage!)
After a few small tweaks, my green top was ready to meet up with friends over $3 pints and NBA finals action. I put a white tank on underneath the blouson, threw on my fave vintage belt, my Newsies cap and some jeans and it Orlando Magically transformed into sports bar suitable.
Now I’m not usually rooting for the Boston boys (this gal is a New Yorker and a Knicks fan despite their losing tendencies) however tonight, I did my girl NK a solid and donned the green.
Now it didn’t help at the end of the day, or game rather, however the Celts’ll be back in a day to take the series from the Florida Magicians. Don’t you worry NK, don’t you worry.
Day 176. 189 days and $186 left togo.
It’s Day Six – the final day of LOST Week is here. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I heard “previously on LOST” for the last time this evening. Whew, still hasn’t hit me yet. Don’t worry…no spoilers ahead – I’m still trying to take in the two and a half hours
It’s Sawyer’s last day on the job, so he’s already in vacation mode.
My final LOST Week look begins here…
Yeah, this piece is rather ridiculous. So how exactly does this tie in to LOST??
BAM! The Smoke Monster. Yep, this vest with the reptiles and animals on the back of it had one in particular that looked like the infamous Smoke Monster. I’m going to take this vest apart and add the patch to a tank for my Series Finale ensemble.
First, it’s time for breakdown!
After ripping apart the vest, I was left with the patches from the back. The one I’m using is the top right…
Now sewing this patch onto a white tank just wasn’t going to be enough for me. I needed to do a little somethin’ somethin’. I took a cue from Day 43 and got out the iron-on letters!!
I grabbed the letters to form two words and placed them on the back of the shirt. Got out the iron and began to press the letters down.
Post my ironing, I took the patch and pinned it to the front of the tank (which, PS, I took from my stash of more than I need Hanes tanks in my top drawer) and got to sewing.
My Smoke Monster tank is all ready for some epic television watching.

OMG!! "THE END" (and yes, that is the Donald in the top corner - totally tivoed Celebrity Apprentice as well
Because the pic of Sawyer above wasn’t going to be enough for the last day…
One more time, right?
I still don’t really have words about the episode…beautiful, sad, romantic, settling, unsettling, elegant… There will be more as the discussions/chit-chat/rewatching/reading come up beginning tomorrow. Some may have liked and some may have not, but at the end of the day, we all GOT LOST
“I’ll see you in another life brotha.”
Six days down. And then there were none…single tear.
Since I can’t toss the three leftover patches into my shoulder pad container I’m givin’ em away! I stitched each one onto a tote bag and they’re up for grabs!
Leave a comment below (include your email!) and I’ll be picking three winners (via random.org) this Friday, 5/28. Lizards, scorpions and caterpillars oh my!
Day 175. 190 days and $187 left to go.
It’s Day Five of LOST Week and just one more to go. OMG, OMG…less than 24 hours till the finale!!
And in his second to last outfit, Sawyer decided on this for today.
It’s black. It’s slimming. I totally understand. Black is usually my goto, however I don’t usually unbutton that far. Me on the other hand, this is what was up my sleeve for today.
Now six years of LOST…we’ve been spending lots of time on this island and that’s where this outfit comes into play. It’s sunny, there’s a beach, you get your fill of Vitamin D…amongst other things. But for the most part, you’re on what looks exactly like Oahu, HI and that is in part because the show is shot there.
A shirt full of palm trees, gorgeous tropical flowers, sun and an ocean? This shirt that looks like my dream vacation while at the same time looks just like what we’ve spent six years watching. If only a VW van, Dharma Initiative jumpsuits…
…a DS ring, holes in the ground, hydrogen bombs, and a hatch were also found on this shirt, then this would really be made just for us LOSTies. Still trying to grasp the fact that we’re a day away. Y’all feeling the craziness too?
Now I wasn’t going to leave the tropical shirt as it was. If I were, I’d be channeling this guy more than LOST.
Nope, not today friends!
My first step in the tweaking process was taking off the sleeves.
Post sleeve trimming, I turned the shirt upside down and cut off the collar. I pinned those raw edges down and sewed a hem at the new bottom of my shirt. I’m going the strapless route now friends! It’s warm today, so why not?
As this is going to be my new tube-ish top of sorts, I’m thinking about making the top of the piece work with a drawstring – the drawstring is going to be crafted from the excess material sewn into a mini sash to keep the top from collapsing.
Thanks to bamboo sticks that I’ve held onto for smores evenings, the excess fabric sash used as the drawstring was set through the seam that was already in place.
Now, this shirt is pretty much ready to wear. I must say, thank goodness for the drawstring or this shirt would have been falling down like no other.
I gathered it around my boobs and there was no place my new shirt was going to be going.
I mean, it does make me crave a little vaca, as well as blended umbrella drinks and some Kalua pig I’ll be honest.
Five days down. And then there was one…
